As a crafter, may I recommend having a sink upstairs for cleaning up, water for painting, mixing plaster of Paris, etc.
Also might be worth having one downstairs for hand washing when doing mucky work and as an emergency eye wash station (some of the fluids for vehicles can be pretty corrosive, I know someone who almost blinded themselves that way!)

Not a bad idea. Particularly the eyewash being available.
edit: Though, you can do an eyewash station with a large bottle of sterile saline solution.

Awesome video, Nate! First, a nod to the guys (Eli, Pete, Jacob and Josiah) for the fantastic job done on this build! It's going to be so sweet when it all comes together and I hope we will be able to see them help you with your house when the time comes for that. I'm liking your ideas on how you want to use the space in the garage and really, you know best on what that will be. I agree, the slope on the side for the ATV entry is going to be a bit more challenging, but if there is one thing I've learned about you is you love a good challenge! Can't wait to see you tackle this one! Thanks for the update and I'll catch ya on Twitch! 👍🏼❤

      LABELS!
Even if your storage is clear or translucent to let you see the contents, clear and simple labels are a huge sanity-saver.

I would deffo put water collection on such a big building.
Water for the garden is excellent.
Also sinks on both floors. Especially for crafting.
A little kitchen area for a small fridge/ coffee/ tea etc. Possibly a cassette toilet?

Great to see it all coming together for you Nate. From one's mind to reality is always an excellent ride. Just thinking of all the kewl projects I know you guys will get up to in that space makes one feel good...
Warhol had his "Factory" and you have your Garage! Perfect! :)
(Having bunking set-ups in the loft is a great idea, because if you bring on temp people to help you on short projects, you can have them stay up in there for the duration of the project if necessary. Perfect solution to an issue that will likely come up from time to time if I think the same way about projects as you do... Same for if you want to run short homesteading workshops, so attendees could have a choice to sleep up in the loft or camp out, etc...)

3:17 personally speaking I believe the outlets even in a house should be up at the 4 foot level that way in the case of a water pipe breakage or a flood or you know if you’re handicapped and you’re in a wheelchair it’s kinda hard to reach to a plug that’s all the way down on the ground but if it’s at 4 foot it’s right there in front of you
Just makes way more since. And even if you’re completely in totally capable human being, who in the hell wants to crouch down all the way to their ankles to plug in or unplug something wouldn’t be easier if it’s just right there in front of you.

Hose splitter on those hydrants is exat what i do. The hoses i have don't drain, but we never stay below freezing all day. So as long as you don't mess with the hoses until they thaw, it's fine.

NAS for video and editing storage and personal storage, HomeAssistant can run all you automations and handle many thing loke automatic power regulation and monitoring. Plus more.... build a server cabinet into the walls, small air conditioner for the summer and have the heat vent directly into the 2nd floor for winter.... Home Assistant can automate that as well all on low powered electronics like Raspberry PI clusters....

    Hello 🙂
Awesome set-up you have; i enjoy watching and learning from it.
Your draining water lines and below the frost line water hose tap splitter system are going to help future you very much. My solution for not frozen outdoor water hoses are a few of the expanding/contracting waterhoses sitting inside the house; after they contract i put each (i have two) into their own small bucket (actually an empty bleach bottle with an access hole i cut into it). The two hoses can connect to a hose tap that is inside my back door, or to a hose tap coming out from the front of the houses skirting when it's not frozen. If you have low water pressure these hoses may not work well 🤔.
I'll learn from what ever solution you do come up with.

OK, so on this comment, I said make it like a almost like a skateboard ramp and that is not what I meant. I meant come out 10 foot and then have it instead of a flat habit more of a concave Vore a bubble top don’t have it flat, give it more of a top side, like the reverse of a ramp. I’m sorry I just read my comment and realized that I didn’t clarify what the hell I was talking about and it kind of made me look stupid cause it ramp on the backside of a 10 foot grade would just cause a massive amount of erosion. I meant the opposite like give it a little bit of a bubble top to slow down the water throughout the grade
      Sorry, sometimes I’m slysdexick

Something you could do for water because of how absolutely gargantuan this building is. Is install a tank that's double or triple the size of the one you currently have and have some way to feed water from this new tank into your existing one either with gravity feed or with a pump. So that way if your existing tank ever gets low, you now have triple or quadruple the capacity pretty much as a just in case measure (I don't know how much those tanks cost, so if this is prohibitively expensive I guess that could be a problem)

Money isn't the issue, It's his electric capacity because even with the new system he's planning on building mini splits draw a lot of energy to just be ran off of a solar setup like this (Yes, they're much more efficient than say for example resistive heating, but the capacity you would need for a building that large is a lot)

Sounds like to me you need to really look at the idea of workshop in that garage. Got to remember that us guys when we work on projects. We need plenty of space but also workshop area. You have built a building that is a multi-purpose building. I would think and use every stretch of multi-purpose that you can do out of that building. More bang for your buck. If I had the building I would turn it into a house/ garage/workshop/ storage/ anything goes multi-purpose building?

Hey Nate, thanks for the tour. Frost free or Freeze Free hydrant. I wonder if you will go to lithium batteries when you change locations ? Price has come down a bunch since I bought 3 each 100 amp hour Battleborn's for our shuttle bus/RV conversion.

Water pressure is 2.3 PSI per foot or something like that I did this calculation a while ago. You can see on my page what it was used for.

2.3 pounds per square inch "per" a foot of what? 1/2 inch pipe?

    • @bullithedjames937
      @bullithedjames937 หลายเดือนก่อน

@mdj.6179 it's calculating head pressure. Gravity fed right at the bottom side of it however many feet vertically it drops you multiply that by 2.3 and that gives you your PSI. The size of the piping doesn't matter for pressure. Size of the pipe only a matters with flow rate.

Well I know of a man who is planning on a basement with his house project I bet if you ask his boss Minion he might let you use the dirt from that to level out that garage entrance or…. Hear me out maybe you can use dirt from an Inground green house project or both lots of dirt to be moved for both projects

I understand your dilemma about stairs. I’m 68 and had a debilitating stroke. I haven’t been in my basement for three years and I can’t even go outside’s by myself. Never dreamed of that happening but I blame the Covid vaccine!😮
