I planted lots of quandong and sandalwood seeds all over my place. Quite a few successfully germinated and now, six years later, they are bearing their first fruits. Yes, they do well planted in the vicinity of Acacia trees. Sandalwood plantations in Western Australia use raspberry jam wattle (Acacia acuminata) as host trees, but other wattles seem to work well, too. My soil is heavy clay, and we have quite heavy frosts in winter, too. My sandalwood and quandong trees look happy and healthy, now that they are big but, of course, junior plants benefit from being made a fuss over and given a little protection from heavy frosts and a little extra water in summer. (I am in the Lachlan Valley, NSW.) Good luck, everybody, with your quandong and sandalwood forests! ;D

I want to tell you Thank you. I had been trying to germinate quandong all year and my first attempts ended up in failure. they involved completely shelling the seed, or cracking them in a vice. 8 months in and no sprouts. The shelled seeds were consumed by fungus, despite being soaked in anti-fungal spray. I tried the method outlined in this video and got my first sprout in just under a month. The only difference I made was that I used soaked vermiculite instead of wood shavings, after squeezing the excess water out of it by hand. Even if this sprout fails, it is still proof that this method works and should be repeatable.

I have just soaked the seeds in water over night and have laid them out to bake in the sun all day today. My question is where do I place the seeds after a day in the sun? Back into the sawdust and tea mix or into soil or just into an empty bucket?

We have an old quandong tree that needs to be pruned as it is leaning up against a fence, what time of the year is it best to prune it, and do I prune like a stone fruit tree? Cheers :-)

Is the sawdust mixed with water at all or is the natural moisture in the wood enough for the germination? I tried not so long ago and mixed through some water I got some mould growing.... maybe I used too much water?

Great talk! :) Could you please help me! I am trying to get all of the flesh off from the seeds/nut. Would you happen to know how I could get it nice and clean? (Blue Quandong)
