I have a set of these tyres 26mm & 29mm so I will also share my thoughts. Firstly I was using Vittoria NEXT tyres and was experiencing issues with crosswinds on my Aero bike (I'm 58kg) I switched to GP5000 and found an immediate improvement with crosswinds. The Aero 111is a little better than the GP5000 with regards to crosswind. The tyres are also more grippy and feel faster but I cannot measure this feeling. The tyres are also a little on the heavier side. 29mm weighs 287 grams on my scales. I found no increase in acceleration with these tyres. We are talking marginal gains and would use them as a race tyre rather than everyday tyre. Just my thoughts.
6:46 nah you don't really need thread on wet road with a bicycle. it really only makes difference after the tire width is like atleast 2 inch and likely even more than that. this is because the water just goes around the tire on skinnier tires.
This is not an objective evaluation, it's an "advertorial" from a tire dealer. There are no objective metrics presented to prove the tire's stated merits. It's one guy's set of anecdotes. So, it's useful to let us know this tire is now available in the market, but that's about it. Conti's bike tires have been great for many years, but they have lots of competition that also make excellent tires. So, now we have yet another high-priced bike tire targeted at folks that want to buy speed (or perceived speed). Note to Competitive Cyclist: this video might be more palatable and perhaps more effective as a result if you toned down the high-pitched sales rhetoric. It's a bit hard to swallow (and watch).
Totally agree. This is nothing but a Conti infomercial. I stopped watching when he said he usually pumps hard 20 times to crest a hill but now with these tires he can just sit & spin. Like wow, how dumb does he think we are?
Absolutely. How to completely lose credibility by saying stuff like 'these spin up so fast', like wtf? That is a weight thing and these are much the same weight as any other tyre. Maybe the 111 does have some kind of aero advantage and I'm sure it's an excellent tyre, but please spare us these ridiculous raving pumps.
If it really is marginal gains, i doubt you can even notice the difference. We need some real numbers here. Either way, there is no way i'm spending 120 dollars on 1 tire.
I have the 26 and 29mm aero 111s. On a ‘normal’ ride I don’t really notice much of a speed increase, but I usually only average 22-24mph max. The reduction in wind buffeting is very noticeable though, with a normally ‘twitchy’ wheel setup. Example. I have a set of Corima 47 EVO wheels. With GP5000STR 28mm fitted they can catch side winds and on fast descents I have to back off the speed. With the 29mm 111 fitted they are less twitchy. With the 26mm 111 fitted though they are really stable even in strong cross winds. This must be a tyre and rim combination as a 25mm 5000STR on the Corima is about the same as the 29mm 111. On other more stable (wider rim profile) wheels, eg my ENVE SES 5.6, I don’t notice any differences between regular 5000s 28mm and the aero 111 29mm tyres. The aero 111 does feel nicer though, wears a bit better, and has better feel in the wet.
I have a pair of Zipp404FC hookless with GP5000STR 28mm. Although it is pretty stable during cross wind, I was not confident to use it in winter due to strong gust. With aero111 29mm on the front, I continue to ride it this winter.

@ I’d like to stay in the $500ish range. Currently only have a single frame, a Giant Defy 5 from 2016ish. I am looking at getting a frame that could ultimately be more versatile and handle the 29 mm wheels. That is about the max I can fit right now with my rim brakes.
You won't see much advantage over a GP5000 in the rear. However, BicycleRollingResistance claims it has better wet grip than the GP5000 so if you ride/race in the wet it could make a good rear tire for those conditions.
@ .5 or 1/2 is the same Did a road 100K in Georgetown South Carolina 6 weeks ago and it was so rough I regretted running the 700-30 at 65 PSI and would definitely run the 35s at 50 PSI next time as the comfort would make it a wash
Can't say I feel any difference in speed but I'm beyond happy with them in regards to crosswinds. I have a background in marketing so I was highly sceptical with the marketing jargon but 100% this is some sort of voodoo magic going on here with how much stability I've gained on windy days. I don't think I'd ever go back to using anything else on the front wheel (65 deep ENVE).
I wish I could give every doubter in the comments a 111 to try for themselves -I know I tend toward superlatives but there's definite voodoo happening here. Small, marginal, almost imperceptible - but definitely something crazy going on.
Great review. But, could one on the rear also add to those gains? Tubeless tires don't need tubeless rims for all of their advantages to shine. There are still latex tubes to compete with sealant for rolling resistance reductions.
Continental recommends using this as a front tire paired with a GP5000 in the rear. The rear wheel doesn't see the same drag/turbulent air as the front.
This video is both total BS and functionally correct. There’s no way to quantify his subjective claims and I’m highly skeptical. However, this is exactly the sort of thing that can make your $3000 deep sections work for you more than 20% of the time. I’d say this $120 tire has more effect on aerodynamics and crosswind stability than your ultra expensive Enve wheels.

So dumb, those cutouts have NOTHING to do with water evacuation on a wet road and nor do the thin markings on a GP5000.
