Great video, it would be nice to have a more in-depth video for those amateurs like myself who want to fully explore the position we play and expand our gameplay, or swap positions once we known a bit more about the game. Keep it up!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure what you mean. I have just done a more in depth video on the rules if that what you mean, otherwise there are a ton of channels on TH-cam that go into depth on individual positions like @NGRrugby and @rugbyslate
@@OfficiallyActive I mean really diving into the roles and responsibilities of each position and the different ways you can play it. For example a big ball carrying center vs a faster and craftier one, what makes each of them work and how you can improve on your game in these ways. Could break it down into a series talking about a few positions each video. Just an idea.
Thanks for this video. My daughter has just started u14s and unsure on positions and I'm just a casual rugby fan so not too familiar myself. She now thinks flanker, no 8 or scrum half will suit her.
Thank you a lot man, i´m for a country where rugby is not popular, so i don´t know a lot of things of this beautiful sport, and i had never undertood the positions
I got put as number 8 on my upcoming game but it is just because next season i am being put as openside flanker so my coaches want me to try a back row position
Funnily enough, at the beggining of the video when he asked the questions on why you are interest in finding out about rugby, I answered no to ALL of thoes questions 😂 I am not interested in rugby in the slightest (even though my country is obsessed with the sport). I mainly watched this video because I am a writer, and in my novel 3 of the main chatacter play rugby (and it is a big part of their story/character arcs). I mainly needed help understanding what kind of possition each of them would play 😅 This video really did help me on that so thank you
I’m kind of scared to play rugby on my high school team, I’m on it but am considering dropping because the injuries look crazy. Especially the possible ones that could happen to me, I’m only 6’0 at 160lbs but am SUPER skinny. What position do you think i should be that would be relatively safe? What’s the safest?
if ur fast go for a winger and dont worry about injuries ive played for a team for a few months now in england and havent been injured once just make sure to go into tackles fast and dont be scared
I found when I played as a junior I was very nervous in playing as you are apprehensive at getting hit. It took about a season or two before you start to toughen up and start to get that fearlessness. By the end of my rugby days around 19 I could get absolutely blitzed and get up and play on. Just embrace the tackle drills so you get good technic and work on your fitness. The fitter you are the more resistent you are to injury.
My highschools rugby coach, is telling me to try out and see if i like the game, i have no prior knowledge about this sport and this is the inly video ive understood about the positions 💀
Hello, I am think of playing rugby and I want to know what position i should play. I currently play American football I usually play receiver and quarterback and on defence I play outside linebacker. I am skinny and smaller with long arms. I am great at catching in contact and great at catching In general I am also great at throwing. I am decently fast, elusive and I can plow through people pretty well. If any one has good rugby knowledge, would you tell me what position I should play?, thank you
If you are going to play as a forward based on what you said. I would suggest number 7, these guys make decisions on the pitch somewhat similar to quarterbacks. Otherwise try out some of the backs positions such as number 11 or 15 they tend to be fast elusive players with a good catch to receive kicks.
Slight correction: 16 to 23 are replacement players, not impact players (however, they can be). The replacement players are used when a run-on player is injured or exhausted. For example when a prop is injured he/she must be replaced by another prop or the scrums are uncontested meaning that the team feeding must win. Also, what is a deefensive player? I think that is American football terminology.
Ok so im really tall and wide (kinda fat but a little) so im really big and strong and im decent fast like normal or a little above average what position should i play?
This is all rubbish. Those people praising how well he is explaining has no clue of the game and the position. You will know what your position is once you compete with the people in your team mate that are within the same frame as you. Heck im 158cm and weigh 75kg and i can play wings, full back and outside centre. All of this is due to my ability. Sure i could be a flyback but i have the speed and its well used on those 3 positions. How do you learn rugby? Go train and play.
To call a lock a "second row" is outmoded, and a hangover from when the scrum packed down 3-2-3. Nowadays it packs 3-4-1, so there are, in fact, four players in the second row! Similarly , to refer to the loose forwards as the "back row" is likewise an anachronism, as there is only one player in the back row of the modern scrum.
You say that the term 'second row' is outmoded as there are 4 players in the second row yet World Rugby Law19.5 states that a scrum (when 15 players are on the pitch) has "two props and a hooker in the front row and two locks in the second row. Three back row players from each team complete the scrum. So to refer to locks as second row is not incorrect and is still relatively common.
@@MrPixiepantz It would probably make it clearer to point out the anachronism of referring to the loose-forward trio as, collectively, "the back-row" when, in fact two of them pack in the second row.

Thank you. You took time to go into everything so that I could understand and didn’t just say the position and end the vid like everyone else on here
Thanks for watching. I know what it was like when i first started playing

it is a great sport, I love it. Hope interest grows where you're from as it becomes more popular.
Great explanation, i think if some day i play i would preffer to be in the "back" than to be a forward
I just switched from 7s to 15s so this video really helped me figure out that i want to stay a prop😂. Great video man
Ditto, thank you for the video, easy, simple and direct explanations
Best video explaining the rugby positions for beginners on the web so far. Well done 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Awesome introduction to the positions! Super helpful for amateurs like me

Scrumhalf but u sound big, so just dive in, I've been playing since I was 6 and I'm 14 now, and the worst i have got is a blackeye
WORST INJURY IV EVER HAD WAS A FRACTURED DISLOCATED WRIST 😅

School teams are a great place to start that how i started. there no expectation to know everything about the sport.
Looks like winga for me
Ok so im really tall and wide (kinda fat but a little) so im really big and strong and im decent fast like normal or a little above average what position should i play?
How you described yourself is how i would describe myself and i played second row. 😂 So i think that would be the best place to start.
surprised about the sub count
I must be getting old. Used to be only 7 subs allowed. Your supporters in the stands were called "player 23"
question: is #9 required to take ball from all rucks??
nope, as long as you're on your feet and over the ball anyone can.
@@mentalasylumescapee6389 i guess it makes sense to have one guy do it most of the time to maintain order.

40% accurate, 60% garbage. It is like a primer for rugby players written by someone who has only played one season of rugby.
Look like I’m 8
