I drove this from Galena to Rockford during the 2014 blizzard. That was after I had to have my car pulled out of a snowbank. Not fun, but I had clients I had to go see (I am a social worker) and make sure they would be ok. One of the more memorable drives in my lifetime.
Yes folks, there IS topography out here in the midwest! Not the kind that you can see from an airplane window, but enough to make any drive in the country interesting. Great video, Kristophere'! All of a sudden, I have a craving for pretzels! 😋
Thanks! People really think Illinois is flat as a pancake. Well a lot of it is, but people really underestimate the river valleys. But this area few really don't see a lot of.
@@TheSolarcatcher yeah, even a solid share of Iowa within 20-30 minutes away from a couple certain rivers is almost western Great Plains levels of hilly in spots. Hell, even a couple secondary rivers seemed like topography got interesting when you were paralleling it on roads like IA 163… US 20 through Central Iowa… snoozefest. US 20 closing in on either Sioux City or Dubuque? Surprisingly pleasant (even though the latter should start dropping hints on exactly what Northwestern IL can get the ball rolling on)
Ha! You've been with me for that long! As much as I liked that in the beginning, it just got too repetitive. But redoing these have been on my mind for awhile. Thanks for watching!
@@TheSolarcatcher Your welcome there, yea I've been watching your stuff since about April 2012 with the Illinois Valley stuff and especially since your first video of the Elgin O'Hare in June of that year, and despite switching YT accounts multiple times since then, I've never lost track of this channel :)
Yep, adding two lanes would be a powerful compulsion to go check it out! Well done! Too bad Illinois doesn't have the same urgency to four lane US 20 that Iowa does (and even Iowa's slowing down).
They’re equally as sloppy in southern Illinois. The US 67 upgrade between Jacksonville & Jerseyville has taken forever to get to where it is now and they should’ve started building a🚦free divided highway between Belleville & Carbondale decades ago. Better yet, how come the divided highway portion in Belleville is IL 15 instead of IL 13?! Given the fact that I-64 goes to Mt. Vernon, it seems incredibly redundant to not have IL 13 take the divided highway so the distance signs right after the on-ramp can start “counting down” to Carbondale first thing east of I-255… the only sizable area in Southern IL outside of the Metro East…
Thank God you didn't reuse that awful Dave Matthews track. 6:41 oh it's always a pain on a two lane winding road, especially if you are filming scenery. Gotta spend most of the trip seeing ESMARK. I would've passed at the first safe opportunity. One thing I do with my videos now is I use the native subtitle feature on TH-cam for the trivia. That way, if I discover something new I could add it or if I make a typo I can go back and edit it. Nice video overall and I did film three bypass back in August but going the other direction, wasn't quite a nice day as this was though.
Good to see you back again.
Great Video Solar!
Cool ride. Glad to see you back on the road.
Thanks! It was a nice day trip and I had great weather. Wished I left earlier, but I think you'll like what I got out of it.

Well, we all have our different ways of doing things. Thanks for watching!
Wait, so Next Video is you Heading to Iowa on this Route?
Yes, this is the start of series that has me refilm what I did in 2012. This is 1 of 6. New one posted every Sunday.
