I packed one for years as a duty weapon. I also shot the same pistol in competition. I now own a 6" barrel and love it too. This will hit the deer woods this year for sure. Great video!!!!
I agree with you. Sometimes it's the blue collar folks who know that it is better to buy once and cry once to get a quality piece rather than settle for something that is not quite good enough. I've done the usual buy and sell or buy and trade that most shooters do until they find what feels right and works for them, and most of the guns I have gone through are not ones I miss having around. I feel a good revolver and a good 1911 are items that will last through several generations with no problems and are worth saving the coin to get. Thanks for the video.
I open carry my 3" GP almost every day. If it isn't on my hip then it's my SP101 WC. With a good holster and belt she carries good. Best revolver I have. I will never sell it.
The Ruger GP-100 was my second pistol over 25 years ago, since then I've bought and shot plenty of revolvers and semi-autos. I do want a S&W 686, they are nice too. 38 SP shoots like a dream, .357 is nice as well with the shock mounted grip. I finally managed to get my hands on one. I had been looking for one for about 6 years, but like you said, it was alluding me. But I finally got one and I couldn't be happier. What a well built revolver. I got the 4.2" stainless and even though it's not one of the most expensive I own, it's by far one of the best made. I consider myself blue collar, I'm not fancy by no means. But this revolver does have that nice high end quality about it. Just all around smooth. Thinking about a Hogue monogrip for it. I think that's what you got, always liked Hogue grips. I kept seeing those sp101s, but I wanted a larger frame, beefier revolver. Something I could run hot loads through. I have a Uberti SAA in 357, but I wanted double action and a little beefier frame. Great for the cowboy action shooting I'll do, but I don't want to run hot loads through it. I'm sure it would be fine, it's a case hardened frame, but I still think the GP has it and a lot of other 357s beat as far as sturdiness and ability to shoot hotter loads.
Your exactly right sir. I am that type of gun owner that maybe shoots once a year but i do have a great shotgun and am going to buy this gun within the week. Spot on
Yeah, these are hard to beat for sure. I like the 4" myself as well. With the 4" you can capture some great velocities at least. I like 3" .357's and I like 6". Four however, is doing all things well, generally.
It is the perfect size. Like you, I really like 3" for carrying, and 6" for making myself feel good at the range, LOL!, but the 4" is just right for everything.
As far as I'm concerned ,S&W and Ruger are equally impressive. I currently own an older 4 inch 686 but am thinking I would like to have a 3 inch. Prob buy the Ruger because no Hillary elevates Ruger a little bit more.
I love the rugers revolvers. I use to have the same gp100. It did get a little heavy after a while of hiking. I switched to sp101 in 4 inch. The down side is only 5 shot. But any ruger revolver is Awsome guns. My woods loads for my 357 are 2 cci shotshells for snakes n such And 3 180 grain buffalo bore heavy cast bullets for 2 and 4 leged animals. Besides ya never know when ya might run into a pissed off sasquatch lol. Any way Thanks for sharing and ya can't go wrong with any ruger revolver or any 357 mag.
My first centerfire handgun was a 6" GP-100. It was nearly 22 years ago with the old grip style. It shot better the more, I shot it. Best gun, I owned.
I see nothing but good things said about this pistol on this here TH-cam. My favorite rifle is my Ruger model 77, 7X57mm Mauser. Tough as nails and never misses. A surgical masterpiece. I don't or never have hunted, I harvested. Lived on my grandfather's (Pop) farm with my father. grandparents having passed. I'd look out the second story kitchen window up the hill under the hickory tree where a half dozen to a dozen white tails would rummage around for hickory nuts and take my pick. Oh, never shot a buck because I enjoy eating deer meat. You see being raised on a dairy farm, you don't slaughter the bull for meat. I might purchase a GP100 .357 magnum. I will not hunt with it. I'm old now and live in the city. I hope and pray some dumb son of a bitch doesn't try to roll me.
I have both.. 3" and 4" barrel GP100's. I don't like the big goofy Hogue grips that come on these now. I have the older style grips with the wood inserts.. the 3" has compact size grip. Both guns have slightly lighter Wolfe springs, and mild trigger jobs. My favorite guns to shoot!
bugmandmj The Hogue grips are hit or miss for many folks. They feel pretty good to me, but I changed mine out to wood, and I'm planning to order a set of the Match Champion grips from shopruger.com. They look fantastic and have no finger grooves, which I prefer that they don't. I want the 3" GP100 very much. I also like the 3"-4" sp101 and have considered one, but prefer the 6 rounds in the GP100. Thanks for watching!
I just got one. I traded one of my 9mm kimbers for it. I went to the Gunshop and held one and it just felt freaking amazing. Never held such a comfortable revolver.
Great video one of my favorite hang guns ever I have 3 in stainless and a Smith &Wesson govenor these two are my absolute favorites , IM BOTH SMITH AND RUGER
There was a Smith and wesson 6 inch barrel 7 or 8 shot (I forget) that I was gonna buy. The place said they couldn't sell it cuz I changed my address and had the printout but not the yellow card yet. So I went to another (much cooler) place that didn't have the Smith and wesson and I spent 4 hours on the road that day because I wasn't going home without a 357 mag. Somehow I always ended up with Ruger. Had the .40 cal, now the ECS 9mm and the GP100, and I gotta say I'm happy with my own opinion and that many share it. It's a total tank (I ended up buying the show gun so I had to do a lot of sight adjusting to get it honed in) And it's reliable with a great grip. A bit heavy like stated in the video, but you could chuck it off a cliff and probably find it still fully intact with a few scrapes. Fate brought me to Ruger and I havnt owned a hand gun besides out of the 3. Now my rifle is a Marlin and my Shotgun is a Mossberg, but I was so bummed that I didn't get the original 357 I wanted until I brought it home, took it apart, took it shooting, then seen how many others love this gun. Makes me content that a certain liberal ran wanna be outdoorsman store lost over 600 bucks in business because of their insanely ridiculous policy even tho I had my ID, the printout of the official address change in my state, and was in the system under that address. Later found out this company melted down all their semi-auto rifles to appease the hardcore lefties. Anywaus, long story short, I can totally vouch for this gun. Total tank. Just don't buy the show gun unless you wanna do your own sighting.
I don't care to much about semiautomatic pistols anymore since I had one jam up on me when I needed it to shoot. I sold it soon after and been buying revolvers since. I own a few of the larger revolvers such as the Ruger Blackhawk 357 but I am now looking for a small revolver suitable for concealed carry. I am looking into this model but with a 3 inch barrel for easier concealment but I was wondering if it has the accuracy of say the Blackhawk or Colt python. Both of these are great revolvers but just to big for concealed carry. I believe in staying with what works for me so the revolvers I have are all chambered in 357 and this one also comes in 357 and that's another plus for me. Even the rifle I carry these days is 357, the Henry bigboy lever action. What I'm wondering is if this revolver will make a good self-defense concealed carry revolver or if I should shop around a little more, any advice on this would be appreciated, thank you for listening
I have the somewhat rare Davidson 5" stainless. Felt that the 6" was too front heavy, and the longer barrel does not add to FPS anyway. Love the look and feel of this Ruger!!
I've got the same gun, and I love it. The only problem I've had is finding a quick-loader that doesn't hit the lip of the rubber grip. It prevents the rounds from aligning with the cylinder.
If I could have only 1 revolver, it would be this one. ....perfect. ....and to me it is good looking as well, in a rugged manly kind of way. .....sure is on my wishlist. Would have loved to live somewhere were I could open carry it on my hip old-skool style ;-)
Nice review. I wanted one of these but I had to take my wife's needs into consideration for a home defense gun. Went with the SP101 as it's size is a bit more manageable for her. One day I'd like to own one of these.
I have been looking at the SP101 either snubbie or longer and the GP100 specifically in 4 inch. I think to really master .357 Magnum a 4 inch (4.2" in Ruger a lot of times) is best and Ruger is hearty though I also like L frame S&Ws as well. I tried a 686 PC 2.5" L frame, however it is big for EDC and shot great, however somehow, I find a holstered 4 inch just seems to be more balanced for EDC as long as you do not mind toting it around. Good discussion and sharing. Thanks, sir.
I had a 357 Ruger stainless years ago, I regret trading it, now I can't afford one but I will run into a deal someday and get a 44 caliber for life. I agree on SW but they're pricey and I understand that. Haha, I'm one of those gun owners you mentioned but I did have a collection at one time though.
just picked mine up this weekend..it's heavy, bit super stable and accurate. ..I'm using it for hiking and home protection. ..picking up underwood ammo...penetrator...Google it
Where. Is the store you bought it at? I'm from North Texas in a town called Vernon. I want to buy one for backup when I go pig hunting in case one decides to charge me.
Really like your channel. I follow my states gun forum but most of the guys here arent exactly the blue collar type, so nice to find a channel like yours. any chance of you talking more about revolvers soon? Been considering getting either a Taurus 66 or something similar.
Thank you a bunch I appreciate it! I can relate to blue collar folks because I am one myself. LOL I have a lot more reviews in the works, I just have to find the time to do them. I love revolvers and hope to add several more reviews in the coming months. I believe they still serve a valuable role in today's "tactical" world. They were the tools that everyone trusted their lives with for close to a century and I feel like we can still learn from those guys. And I have owned several Taurus revolvers and all of them were reliable and well made. My first revolver was a Taurus, in fact. A snub-nosed .38. Thanks for watching!
Rugers are so solid, as you say, because they are milled. Unlike S&W which are cast and have a very thin top strap which stretches over time reducing accuracy. I own the 4 and 6 inch barrels GP 100 because my state requires 6" barrels to hunt, also I like the quick recovery of the heavy barrel . Enjoyed your video.
@Voltron Defender of the Universe Sorry , I had bad information. I bought a S&W 586 when it first came out, before the 686 was available and in no time the cylinder/barrel gap was huge. I asked a gun smith what to do and he said buy a Ruger. Also my reloading manual has a bold black line on each page of recipes that says fron this point on Sturm Ruger only . I don't know where I got it wrong but it will still always be Ruger for me .Thanks for setting me straight.
@@jasonlehman2090 I've already been corrected and apologized for my error. You don't have to show your second grade mentality by name calling. The fact remains that reloading manuals all recommend only putting the hotter loads in Rugers because they are stronger than other revolvers. Wouldn't own another S%W revolver if you gave it to me. My last one ( a 586) didn't last 1000 rounds before the top strap stretched.
@@michaeltroja315 Wrong again... That pertains only to the .45 Colt loads because of the amount of SAA revolvers that can't handle the pressures. The BB 340 grain +P+ load's overall length is too long to chamber in a Smith .44. Magnum. If the Smith's had longer cylinders they could digest them just fine.
Ruger GP 100 frames are large because they are casted frames. They have to be thick to withstand 357 mag all day long since casting is weaker than forging. S&W frames are forged which makes them extremely strong as well and can handle 357 mag all day as well. People, please stop thinking that because a GP 100 is thick it is built like a tank. Start saying it is large like a tank but not stronger than a S&W. Get your information right.
I agree with everything you have said. I have a Ruger GP100 just like that. I bought it used almost 3 years ago. I love it. I will never sell it. My son has already ask for it. I will pass it on to him I have 2 revolvers. I want a 1911 and a Glock next. Can you recommend any make and model? Thanks.
Being a blue collar channel I will recommend the Rock Island Armory 1911. They are really well made, fine shooters and a new one can be had for less than $500. Ask around, read some reviews and draw your conclusions about RIA. They are good quality or I would not recommend them. As far as Glocks go, it will have to be personal preference, but if I could only choose one, it would be a G19. Thanks a bunch for watching!
Thomas Tommy Ruger SR1911 has a lot of nice features for the price. I have a normal GI 1911 and a Ruger SR1911. I like the Ruger a lot better. Around here you can fetch one for 700 before tax.
Nathan Mueller I live in Maryland. But I am from SW Virginia. I have some cousins that live up that way somewhere. It is nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing your information with me.
Nothing at all wrong with S&W. I love S&W revolvers. I have several of them and have made videos of them. Ruger triggers are not as slick as S&W, in my experience. Especially shooting double action. They are very good shooters, however, and with practice are as accurate as any handgun I have ever fired. In this video I mentioned my 4" S&W 629-6 in .44 Mag and admit it shoots every bit as good as this one. Another advantage of S&W revolvers is they are typically lighter, and it is quite noticeable. I have no bias against either brand and fall into a weird category of liking both just about equally. You really can't go wrong with either, and it all comes down to what suits you best. This is a woods carry gun and it fills the role very well. Thanks and happy shooting!
I am Blue Collar guy and I have several guns. Including a Ruger GP-100. I would like to have a 1911 and another Ruger GP-100. Blue Collar where are you from? I can hear a southern accent in your voice.

I have a GP100 just like that. Mine has the 4 inch barrel. I love my gun. I want another with a 3 inch barrel. Thanks for responding to my post. I do enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing them. I will look forward to your next video.
Where in SW Va were you from?I still live in Smyth County in SW Va and often travel to the Maryland coast to visit my neice. She met a guy when they were going to Virginia Tech and they got married 14 years ago.
I will try to help but need more information. I'm assuming you have a GP100? Adjustable rear sights? Sometimes it can be as simple as an adjustment of your trigger finger. For instance, if you're digging in too deep with your trigger finger it can cause you to shoot way left. You may already know this, I don't know...A simple adjustment to the rear sight on a GP100 should be all you need.
+Mule TeamSixtySix Thanks! I still appreciate the wheel guns and believe they have their place, even in today's "tactical" world. This is a joy to shoot.

I'm sure it would be fine, it's a case hardened frame, but I still think the GP has it and a lot of other 357s beat as far as sturdiness and ability to shoot hotter loads.
Nice video, nice review. I am a die-hard revolver fan and I love my GP100 4 inch.
A GP100 in 327 Federal magnum is on my radar. Can shoot all 32 caliber cartridges shorter in length with a rim. Even 32 Auto can be used in it.
Very reliable gun. I even carry mine in 3' IWB in the hot Miami summer! My favorite gun!
I would love to have the 3"!
I love my GP 100.
love my
gp100 6" its a great shooter. Great bang for buck.
I just bought a 3” but it’s a few months back ordered! I feel like a kid, I’m so excited to get it. Paid msrp for it but I didn’t mind.
I just got one. I traded one of my
9mm kimbers for it.
Love my gp100 with 6in barrel stainless it is accurate it's gun could shoot all day no problems
I'm also die hard both only 2 hand guns I have is ruger gp100 3inch 357 and smith & Wesson governor absolutely love both
I have the somewhat rare Davidson 5" stainless. Felt that the 6" was too front heavy, and the longer barrel does not add to FPS anyway. Love the look and feel of this Ruger!!
Live Free or Die The 5" is hard to come by. You should hang onto it! I want to shoot a 5" someday. I'll bet it drives tacks!
I've got the same gun, and I love it. The only problem I've had is finding a quick-loader that doesn't hit the lip of the rubber grip. It prevents the rounds from aligning with the cylinder.
I love mine! As for a loder, I use the HKS 586 loader and it works well. I haven't had any problems with the grip being in the way.
If I could have only 1 revolver, it would be this one. ....perfect. ....and to me it is good looking as well, in a rugged manly kind of way. .....sure is on my wishlist.
Would have loved to live somewhere were I could open carry it on my hip old-skool style ;-)
Very well said. Nothing too fancy, but very nice and rock solid! I carry it old school style when I'm walking in the woods. A man can dream! LOL
I carry this daily
I could stare at that gun for hours!
Nice review. I wanted one of these but I had to take my wife's needs into consideration for a home defense gun. Went with the SP101 as it's size is a bit more manageable for her. One day I'd like to own one of these.
There's certainly nothing wrong with the sp101! Those are great guns and I would like to have one for carry.
great video I bought the very same one just love it built like a tank
It is a great all around handgun. Solid as a rock and will last beyond our lifetimes! Thanks for watching!
I love my gp100 4” 😍🇺🇸
Can’t. Find 357 or 38 special ammo
I have a 3" gp 100. It is my favorite also.
I would love to have the 3" as well. My best friend has one and it shoots like a dream!
I have one also, I'm wondering where can I find a holster for my weapon 🤔, in side and out. Thanks, in advance.
great gun. I have the 6 ich but in a blued finish and also the little brother SP101 in 3"
It’s a really great revolver!
You just sold a gun sir! Thanks for your thoughts!
just picked mine up this weekend..it's heavy, bit super stable and accurate. ..I'm using it for hiking and home protection. ..picking up underwood ammo...penetrator...Google it
Where. Is the store you bought it at? I'm from North Texas in a town called Vernon. I want to buy one for backup when I go pig hunting in case one decides to charge me.
I'm right there with you, brother.
I believe most people would agree once they shoot this great revolver! Thanks man!
"My friend has a 3 incher. So I got a 4 inch." The most guy-est thing I've ever heard.
Just exchanged with Ruger my 6" SS Security Six for a brand new GP100 6" SS. Haven't shot it yet!
great vid and thanks for doing it!
You're welcome, and thank you for watching!
Hey dingleberry, the Rugers are cast, the Smith and Wesson's are forged. Get your facts straight...... Idiot.
@@jasonlehman2090 just look at a reloading manual big black line on every 357 mag recipe page "from this point on Sturm Ruger only
How do you really feel about the GP-100 😎
Love my GP100 aswell !!!!!!!!!
$650 gun in 2016....$750 gun in 2021! (I bought one a couple days ago)
I went to the gun store to buy a new 4 inch colt Python and left with a 4 inch GP100 I guess I’m a blue collar guy also 😂
I JUST GOT ONE GP100 4 INCH STAINLESS HAVEN'T SHOT YET
Is it a 6 rounds or 7 rounds, i believed is 7.
I like mine too!
The ruger gp100 over built because it’s based on redhawk frame
I love it , but not as an only pistol I gotta get sumthing else
Mines ruger redhawk 357
I love mine
Nathan Mueller Hi Nathan, Thanks for responding to my post. Where are you from? Can I ask you that? Thanks.
Thomas Tommy And no problem.
Nathan Mueller I live in Maryland. But I am from SW Virginia. I have some cousins that live up that way somewhere. It is nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing your information with me.
What’s wrong with S&W ???
Isn’t the Rugers trigger hard ?
Compared to the S&W
@@bluecollargunsandgear2361 great response.
Wow just wow
I am Blue Collar guy and I have several guns. Including a Ruger GP-100. I would like to have a 1911 and another Ruger GP-100. Blue Collar where are you from? I can hear a southern accent in your voice.
I'm in Georgia. There's no hiding my accent. LOL! Good to meet you!
Blue collar guns and gear I noticed your accient. I live in Maryland. But I was born and raised in SW Virginia. That's why I ask where you are from. I was thinking you might be from my neck of woods.
Nice video,i agree!
Thanks!
How do you sight this gun in perfect? Mines so inaccurate and yea):
I will try to help but need more information. I'm assuming you have a GP100? Adjustable rear sights? Sometimes it can be as simple as an adjustment of your trigger finger. For instance, if you're digging in too deep with your trigger finger it can cause you to shoot way left. You may already know this, I don't know...A simple adjustment to the rear sight on a GP100 should be all you need.
Badass,gp,100,1,all,day
very nice
+Mule TeamSixtySix Thanks! I still appreciate the wheel guns and believe they have their place, even in today's "tactical" world. This is a joy to shoot.
Was this a 7 minute vid of a revolver laying on grass?
Wilhelm Taylor don’t forget the feather and the bullets.
@@split_jcgg9613 There was also a pine cone.
You sound like you might be from KY or maybe East TN.
im a blue collar guy.U.P.S loader.
Keith Mcintosh I feel your pain. I worked at UPS as a loader/unloader over 20 years ago. Fresh out of high school. It was a pretty hard job, and I lost some weight. LOL Its a good job and company! Good luck man!
My favorite Gun also. If I had to pick just one; it would be that. Nice video !!!I'll subscribe.
Now, you better quit smoking, get an inhaled steroid (won't hurt you short or long term). You need some albuterol if you don't already have it, and your burning the candle at both ends, like I did. Fricken excellent gun.
Thanks! LOL...Definitely a non smoker here! Yes I got my GP100 out this past weekend and sent some lead downrange. What a great shooter!
Eat any Colts lunch and will take even the most powerful +p+ loads. What ever pre existing issues with Rugers are bull as it pertains to wheel guns.
If you smoke, You got to quit, or you're going to end up tortured first, then go to the big range in the sky before your time. your breathing sounds really labored. Seem like a great man with good advise. Shame if you were gone early.
Your fellow gunner,
Hill Shepherd Thanks for your concern but I really have no idea what you are talking about. I have never smoked in my life and am one of the most health conscience people I know. I am also a martial arts instructor and a boxer. LOL...I don't know why I sound laboured in this video.
Sorry ! A boxer ??? Damn good sir !!! On the other note, GP 100, all the way baby. Did you say that was a 3" barrel ? Looks like a 4". Oh BTW Damn good video. And thank-you. (Almost turkey season here in "NANNY" NY , May 1st.)
Yes I boxed for a couple years and kick boxed for many years. At one time I was teaching over 150 people here in my hometown, but these days I only do it for fun, and train with a few locals.
Nanny, NY. Sounds like a good place to hunt!
This is a 4" GP...My best friend has the 3" and shooting his made me want one of my own. The 3" is an outstanding shooter too.
Thank you! I hope you got yourself a neck beard gobbler!
I have the 6".Absolutely love it.A friend has thd 4"S&W 686.He hates it already.Likes to shoot my GP100.
