    Probability and statistics on Khan Academy: We dare you to go through a day in which you never consider or use probability. Did you check the weather forecast? Busted! Did you decide to go through the drive through lane vs walk in? Busted again! We are constantly creating hypotheses, making predictions, testing, and analyzing. Our lives are full of probabilities! Statistics is related to probability because much of the data we use when determining probable outcomes comes from our understanding of statistics. In these tutorials, we will cover a range of topics, some which include: independent events, dependent probability, combinatorics, hypothesis testing, descriptive statistics, random variables, probability distributions, regression, and inferential statistics. So buckle up and hop on for a wild ride. We bet you're going to be challenged AND love it!
    About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

    This didn't really teach me how to fit a line to data... more of just learning to use Excel. I barely learned anything, but hopefully the upcoming videos on the course I'm learning on prove to be more useful.

      +Loreen Greyson Start with basic instruction. I encourage my students to go back to a point where they were lost and start there.

      Cavitating or captivating? I think the latter.

    You can fit data to lots of little connected lines and curve the graph.
    Here's some Mathematica code that shows how.
    Plot[Piecewise[{{((0.5 - x)/
    0.5) (x/2) + (x/0.5) (0.25 + (x - 0.5) 1.1),
    x 0.5 && x 0.75}}] , {x,
    0, 1}]
    Has anyone got a suggestion of a name for this type of curve as it is currently unnamed and I have no doubt it could prove useful for curve fitting and in 3d with more connected lines the same principle remains for turning a triangle mesh into a curved surface so this type of maths will almost certainly be used in the future? If this type of curve becomes popular your name for it might stick so go on have a go and lets see what sticks. also in terms of data fitting this type of curve can be more straight where it needs to be and more curved where it needs to be also as to get a better general fit to some data types.
