Used to have a Corrado VR6 Storm for a couple of decades, cracking car bags of fun but I always wanted it to be rwd. My sensible car when the kids came along was a facelift e46 330i touring, 3 years old when I bought it, just sold it for £3k less than I purchased it in 2008 55kmiles when no one wanted petrol cars, and did 140k miles in it. Kids came back from hospital in it, and 13 years later it’s gone to a new home with young kids. Absolute trooper of a car that sounded lovely, went quick when needed, and was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned (well serviced and maintained). If BMW made cars like that still I’d buy one again in a heartbeat. Congratulations on the sponsorship!! 🎉

Back in the day our dads had saloon cars like escorts, then we then got hatchbacks that were a revaluation as they are very practical cars that don’t need to be boring either! If you want more flexibility then get an estate car. Estate cars give you the extra luggage space, but are still fun to drive as lower centre of gravity than an SUV & better mpg as cut through the air more efficiently. I have loved my estate cars and currently have a 3 year old 2.0 hybrid Toyota Corolla touring sport that goes well, great mpg, practical, good to drive & very comfortable.
Note, if you have driven a 1.8 Toyota hybrid and found it to be noisy and slow, try a 2.0 instead as they are so much better and I’m sure you will be impressed.
Yep it makes me sad that Volvo no longer make new estates or saloons in the Uk, they only make SUVs now. SUVs aren’t the most practical family cars

I picked up my first child in my old Portofino Blue Fiat Coupe 20VT, proper four seats and quirky and that five cylinder soulful engine! Moving on a decade I’ve still got Two of em in around £10k (well and more lol) but they’d make a great monthly cash raffle car!😂❤. Great channel, well done mate!👏

The Mazda RX-8 is perhaps the most unusual sports car on the market. Very family friendly, as a real 4-seater, but I guess you need 5 seats. Consumption like the Maserati with torque of a Golf 1,6, but so special.. Your channel is 👌! Thanks! :)

Likewise I’ve always been adamant I’d never allow a TH-camr to use any of my cars….If you ever need a stock Leon Cupra 290 or an 850hp Supra (to compare to the one you drove before) then I reckon Dadcars would be the exception to my rule!

I saw your video with JayEmm a while back...I didn't realise you live in my area...subscribed now. My S55 AMG is a pretty good 'Dad car'....well it has loads of interior space I suppose (being LWB)! I don't daily it because, like your DB9, it only averages around 20mpg. Give me a wave/flash if you see me (I'm often up at MMB), an S55 will almost certainly be me because they're as rare as rocking horse poop (prob 20-30 on the road)

Earlier this year I was given the brief by my wife to buy a sensible 2nd family car so promptly ditched the boring X1 and went for a 2002 Subaru Legacy GTB wagon (twin turbo) with a massive exhaust.

remember starting to watch you from a mention by jaym a while back. good little British channel but i can't relate to dad stuff as not got kids lol. how much a week did you spend on fuel with a martin? or was it a weekend car only?
I averaged about £300 a month with the Aston but it depends weeks to week where I’m driving. I did £120 tank of fuel in one day on the maser last week.
@@dadcarsnot too bad tbf... ive got an a45 and average about the same but can be 400 a month if i drive in sport mode and push a little harder. had a map and it definitely seems like the mpg has slightly dropped since. it's just crazy how much we spend on the juice in one year mate. dread to think over a decade lol

@@dadcars another option out there could be an Abarth 500. Little pocket rocket that’s still quite modern and quirky but having back seats means can fit children seats. Only reason I chose to mention was cause a fellow dad I know sold his 595 when first child came along 😢

Seen VW Phaeton 6.0 w12 under 10g. Lambo engined Audi's, Maserati quattroporte. No v8 Mustangs unfortunately. Good to find some classics under 10g but probably need work doing. I'd like r36 Passat estate. Did try get golf vr6 like that when younger, but insurance really high. Same as any GTi.
Good suggestions! Yeah if we buy anything that needs work that would obviously need to be done prior to going to the winner so any big projects won’t be within budget. I’d love to try a phaeton
@@dadcars Was thinking Phaeton as along lines of Aston Martin V12 engine. But relatively budget version. Get £500 car fix and modify at some point. Go through cars on gran turismo and put decals on, though might be out of budget.
Found out I'm going to be a dad 2 weeks ago. Along with all the excitement and stress I some how discovered and subscribed to your channel and am getting more excited by the day to share the Ferrari 360 I bought a year and a half ago with my first born when they get big enough to ride in the front and pass it along when they're old enough to inherit it.

My first car as a Dad was a mk3 Golf (TDi not VR6 sadly!) and it was a perfectly practical family car so no reason why a VR6 would need to be binned for a boring SUV.
