    Im from the state of Kalinga which is now known as odisha. There is a river here called the "Mahanadi" and it is said that the battle between ashoka and king of Kalinga was so fierce that the river flowed with blood instead of water.

    The iron posts Ashoka had irrected with his moral rules and wisdom still stand tall today without rusting. This surprises scientists around the world even today . Ashokan empires metelology and these pillers can be looked at in other documentaries. Also Kalinga empire Ashoka fought is the state of Odisha in current day India.

    1:40 This is Greek propaganda, his Army never lost its true but He got shot in the battle field by porus's soldiers. And there army had to retreat. Greek made propaganda to ensure political stability
    and every body in Europe believed it , Alexander had the dream of conquering India His Army knew that well India was the richest piece of land that time, having being 32% of world GDP that time,then why would is Army suddenly get home sick if they all knew there end goal is to conquer India. That's why suddenly Alexander died mysteriously, it not actually a mystery his Army was larger then porus's Army but our historian writes he got shot with a poison arrow.

      @@ExcitedArcade-pt8zs if Conquering India was a piece of cake, why didn't Alexander successor try conquest on India. They should have at least tried it once since his predecessor so effortlessly achieved it, but no the 2nd contact with the Greek was under friendly turms, strong don't befriend the week. And where is that great Alexander now, not even his body came back to Greece , everything from the point of conquest to India is shrouded in mystery. Where are the Greek buildings in India for Alexander's time. He made plenty of buildings in parasia after he defeated and seized parasia , where are the cities named after Alexander in India, there are plenty of cities in Iran that ones were named after Alexander.

      Porus became Alexander's satrap after he Alexander defeated and captured him, The two cities we know of that Alexander built in India are Nikaia and Boukephala. That was 2300 years ago and who knows how many other cities he had built that have perished since. Your claim that Alexander was poisoned by an arrow is hilarious considering he died 2 years after he defeated porus and wasn't even near India.
      Alexander didn't make it clear who he wanted his successor to be so the empire was split between many of his generals who were almost instantly at war with each other. None of them would've wanted to go to India if they couldn't even control their own land and people trying to invade each other and control the entire Empire solely.
      And btw even though porus was defeated anyway Alexander's troops didn't want to go as they had been at war constantly for over a decade and hadn't been home since. They would've still been wanting to go home even after porus was defeated.

      @@whatever4721 And your little comment about "where is Alexander now?" He is in the history books as the greatest conqueror and war commander to exist, thisuands thousands of years later his name and achievements are still present whereas nobody knows about porus only through Alexander do they hear his name, your precious porus is known as just another dude who Alexander defeated.
      Alexander did more in 12 years then India has done in it's entire existence, No wonder he still lives rent free in your head thisuands of years later.

    15:15 No he wasn't tolerant about Jain scholars. He slayed them all because Jain ministers and scholars support his elder brother (Ashoka's father was also Jain) while he was supposed by Hindu Brahmins Ministers. Interestingly the person who made His Grandfather Chandra gupta the king, and the ones strategist who wanted to destroy dhanananda was none other than chanakya a Hindu brahmin how was humiliated by Dhanannda in his court. New findings indicate that he was actually not so remoreseful towards people of kalinga. The edicts about his remorse were found in far away north western side of "Akhand Bharat" which exists in pakistan now, and there have been no instances of explaining anything about remorse or guilt in the edicts near to kalinga. Inspite of all these controversies, i think he was a true leader, one who developed bharat's defensive capabilities. But i think the gupta empire was when Bharat actually developed real skills in economics, politics, literature, science etc.

    1:40 its false. Alexander was thrashed and got injured with the battle against Porus, who was a small chieftain and Nanda Empire was far far superior than Porus. Alexanders favourite horse died in this battle. Alexander is someone who brutally punished, destroyed the cities of kings who refused to submit to him. Porus not only refuse to submit but also thrashed Alexanders army. So there is no way that Alexander would allow Porus to live if he actually defeated him. Mosy likely Porus defeated Alexander and he had to retreat. So basically Alexander was driven away from India. Porus's army grew after the battle with Alexander. Nanda Empire is far far superior than Porus controlled by a strong emperor. The greek historians had to sugar coat Alexanders humiliation defeat with false narratives.

      @@el_scribbler What's more interesting is, the "so called" battle between Purushottam (Porus) and Alexander took place near the university of Takshashila (Taxilla). And yet there was no mention of Porus and Alexander in the documents of that University. And yet Selucus Nikator, Alexanders general who is responsible for Selucid Empire was mentioned in the documents. Basically, ancient scholars didn't consider Alexander and Porus as people who are not worth mentioning. The scholars noted down all the great Rulers of those time and Porus was not one among them.

      Even a Gold artifact coin was distributed at the time showing alexanders horse getting pierced and alexander falling down the horse. A king that falls down from his horse is a literary Game over in these wars. Alexanders men got him and ran away... The cholas knew that other kingdoms would manipulate history like alexander. Thats why cholas wrote all their accomplishments in temple stones and copper leafs. A lot of our history was erased by the invaders

    This video only mentions three sons...but there are texts that claims ashoka had 100 or so brothers (probably from bindusara's concubines)
    You said you would love to know what happened between bindusaras death and ahshokas crowning...different sources potray different things..But the most common story is that ashoka hunted down 99 of his brothers and murdered all of them in cold blood so they would not be a threat to his reign..You can picture him as a sought of vlad the impaler or qin shi huang type of cruel ruler around this period. He famously even earned the monicker "Chadashoka" which implies violent or evil ashoka.. later he earned the name "Dharmashoka" means more like reliogious or good ashoka after becomming a buddhist and adopting non violent policies..
    His later policy was named "Dharmavijaya" which means sending buddhist monks to other realms to expand buddhism..This was adopted Dikwijaya which means conquest...It is more like a version of ideological conquest like soviets spreading communism, spain spreading catholism etc..Instead of direct conquest you basically influence whole indian subcontinent by religious influence, ...pretty smart when you think about it

    • @el_scribbler
      @el_scribbler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I guess hunting down all his siblings makes sense. You must get rid of all possible rivals 🤠 even if that is dark. But the conquest of ideology is one of the most vile.

    • @heshangunarathna3262
      @heshangunarathna3262 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@el_scribbler I won't call it vile ...Because there is a possiblity that the emperor actually believed in buddhist teachings and the mauryan's empires ideological influence that grew with the spreading of buddhism may have been only a additional benefit but not his main goal.. Remember ancient people actually were very religious and aetheists were very rare.And buddhism actually has very graphic details about the types of hells one would go after doing crimes of his caliber. They involve from drowning im lava daily to being tied to a tree with spikes and constantly being beheaded only to grow his head back..Guy was probably horrified after suddenly realising bloodshead he has done. Still he was an impressive ruler for his era. It may was an act or not, but the emperors contribution to the ideas of religious tolerance in india and his edicts about virtues were net positive toward the world.. He probably actually redeemed himself or just pretended..doesn't matter

    Perhaps there can't be any place where blood has been shed more than India. Despite of which it is onlh living Civilization which has not killed a outsiders for the sake .Another religion which has been persecuted is Jews. Deception and Greed is not in the Indian blood. Never has India practiced slavery and taking enemy women or Children unlike the religion which had orign in desert
    Infact the kings of India had set rules for battle.
    The battle would begin after raise of the sun with bugle being blown and closes after sunset.All the army personnel should go and have dinner after a bath.No one would attack each other after sunset
    It was clear no children/Ladies/old personel will be harmed.This went on till the barbarian attacked India who had no rules of the game.
    Thank God one soul out of 8 billion thinks about non voilence.
