You can always run the string thru the peg and let the ball end "anchor" to the peg when tuning up. If you're going to cut the strings anyway, just cut the excess length at the bridge and slip it into the holding blocks.
Change Strat strings: Thread through holes in trem, then into tuners and tune. Change RG strings: Unbolt these three bits, snip here and here, get your drill, DON'T snip that bit but do, tighten the other bit. Get it in tune now tighten that bit, which takes it out of tune, eat this bean, wing of bat... ...install the drivers... ...preheat oven...
Thanx, best video of all! As someone who has to do the first string change on a guitar which is not a Strat, Les Paul,.. I could really need some help.. The vid has good close-ups of the important steps and explains everything in detail - for example, you are the only one who explains that the ball end of the string has to be removed! Yes, certainly evident for all Ibanez/floyd rose etc. players, but not for me, I did not know that! So, thanx, this was a real help for me!
Thanks for posting this. I successfully changed strings today ! I used a string winder for the tuners and it worked, but I think it could have gone better with wrap around the pegs but oh well. Now I know how. Thanks again !
BTW Mike I own the same guitar and same color too I love it!!!!! and the below technique works great on this guitar. I've replaced a string, re-used the same string and did a full string replacement using the below technique and have had no problems on this guitar. It will also work pretty much on any other locking system, fixed or floating guitar out there.
A little tip for changing strings on the Ibanez series of guitars & that is Don't complelety snip off all of the bottom of the string... I purchased a pre-owned Ibanez S770 & a New Ibanez RG370 & the new guitar was obviously staying in tune as it was New & had a New set of strings on it but I could never get the Ibanez S770 to stay in tune long enough so I made sure to buy 3 packs of strings... When replacing the E-A-D & G Strings they were fine but as soon as I tried to attach the B & then later on the E# string I couldn't get them to catch properly onto the string holder!.. Each time I thought I had proper purchase they would slip from the string holder each time I'd tune them up & it didn't matter how much I tightened the bolt with the Hex Key... Maybe it's my naevity as I justed started playing acoustic & electric guitar in April of this year, but I don't think so... There's not much to grab a hold of & the lighter the string the harder to hold, so I keep most of the wrap around & then snipped the ball off & hey presto I took to it first time & never slipped once... I made sure to only take enough off to catch the string & the actual wrap around is in out of the way, so you cant see it & now with a new set of strings it sounds great when playing chords, as I'd always sound flat when play them, & when playing solos... I hope this helps anyone that has the same problem as I never thought I'd get this sort of problem & everything was fine until I got to the B & E Strings... So for those strings I'd leave some of the wrap around to give the bolt something more to grip onto... Great guitars but now I know to be a little more careful when snipping the string to the correct size... All the videos I've looked at say take about 1 inch off & Yes that was fine for the E-A-D-G strings but not the B & E strings as they're so thin... Now to order more strings...🎸🎸🎸 Enjoy...
ANOTHER SNAZZY TRICK?: make sure each string has at least 4-5 winds on the tuning peg.......WHY??? if you break a string at or close to the bridge (where they usually break) you can usually release pressure pad and UNWIND enough of that very same string from the tuning peg to lock down into the bridge and there is no need to replace with a new one till that string breaks again. Great to use during live shows. Go about the same tuning procedure and you're done. Get the most use out of a set of strings.
I'm a Little crazy, cause I only change the strings by removing all the tremolo, all the strings, lubrifing the tremolo, puting all the strings back, and so, put the tremolo back on guitar, tuning and regulating... I just can't do the way you do, hahaha... But it's a lot fun remove the full tremolo, you must try it some day... BTW, nice vídeo ^^.
My .009 gauge high-E string won't stay in the string retainer block. :/ it just slips out as soon as I tighten it on the headstock. wondering if I broke something.
@thebigw1004 I think it is usefull. When I bought my RG350DX I wanted to know something about this tremollo and i watched videos from the official site and I decided to upload that.
A Good way to save time is to restring it before you sleep or leave the house, tune it to E sharp (F flat) give it a stretch and let it sit there for several hours then tune it back to E standard again after this procedure, strings will feel looser, hence a lot easier to bend and more stable...TRUST ME, this shit is fucking effective!
This is not me. This video is from Ibanez site. I thought that it would be usefull and decided to upload it. Don't blame me for anything in the video, because I am not responsible for it.
at the end he says that if you change string gauge it will make the trem not level, so the guitars probably come with 9 gauge and to make it easier, just get 9 gauge strings. If you want to use other strings, it's fine but check the tremolo is level.
I was once told: “The main reason for not removing all the strings is that a guitar in tune is in a "happy place"... if you completely remove all the tension on the guitar's neck, it has the possibility to mess up the guitar's "happy place". This may be more of a concern for lower quality guitars.
@4narchy77 Yes. I'm using D'Addario 0.10 - 0.52... But the ajustment was very hard. I had to re-ajust the tremolo, because the tension was harder and the tremolo goes up. Yes you can use other sizes but as ypu can see the adjustment is harder. I uploaded this video to illustrate the proccess of changing string on that type of tremolo.
Cool video. But what if you want to clean the fretboard, frets and add lemon oil to the fretboard... You would have to take off all the strings to do it efficiently, so what do you do so the trem doesn't get messed up?
You just block the bridge, by using anything that fills the gap in the back cavity, between the tremolo block and the "small wall". Tighten the springs to keep the bridge pulled and stabilized. Make sure you block it to where the bridge itself is level to the body, then do whatever setup you need. Then when you're done, remove the temporary block, and undo the spring tension, while tuning it to the A string 440, from when you were blocked.
@guitarsorrow Hi.. Well... It won't be a problem. The ajustment will be harder, because of the different tension of the strings and will cost some the till you tune the guitar.
@mike34357 When you tune your strings (when all the strings are on) you need to stretch the strings (while the locking nuts are loose). So you grab your string, one by one with a shirt or something, then stretch them and tune them again. Keep doing this untill they go in tune. Then tighten your locking nuts. If you don't strecht the strings, they will go out of tune when you whammy a lot. Goodluck Then you can tigthen your locking nuts
Is it possible to remove the string lock blocks from the saddles of an Edge III? I've got some that are worn out and won't hold strings anymore, but I don't want to replace the entire saddle. With normal Floyds they practically fall out by themselves, but I cannot figure out how to remove them from an Edge III!!
at 2:40 he said that i m going to save time by changing strings one by one. what if i changed it all at one time? what should i do to get the problem resolved because the floyd rose on my guitar isnt the same as before sorry for the bad english can someone help me please
@nova495 Hey this video is not mine! It is from ibanez site so I decided to UPLOAD it if it is helpful. Don't judge me if you can't change your strings or whatever.
Matt Hart, it’s not the end of the world. Just put each string on very loosely. Wind them all up together (few turns on E, then a few on A, D, G, B , E ... repeat) until you get them all up sort of evenly (roughly, it’s not critical). Watch you don’t over tighten by having a tuner available. Once it’s about right, follow his steps. What you can also do (to stop the bridge dropping away as you cut off every string) is sit a block underneath the tremelo that maintains the floating bridge’s normal stationary position. Make sure not to hurt your guitar’s paint work. This is the way I’ve always changed them. I don’t do one at a time, because I like to give my guitar a good clean first.
I'm trying to replace the strings for my Ibanez S670QM, but my Allen wrench (Gorilla Grip) won't twist the saddles on the bridge. It fits somehow, but it slides off when I try to twist. Did I buy the wrong Allen wrench or did I damage the saddles?
I changed the strings on my RG-320 before I watched this video and of course I did it all wrong. Following none of these procedures it took awhile before I could get it to stay in tune. I did not cut the ball end off because it had ball ends on the old strings do that really matter? Guitar came with no whammy bar and I really need one but don't know where to obtain one. Also I used 10 gauge not the recommended 9. I will be changing to 9 gauge immediately. Also I like low action it's ok but I would like it a tad lower without buzzing or fade outs. Changing strings on this guitar is more challenging I'll follow your instructions next time.
Also, the six strings produce a lot of tension on the neck, it is not a good idea to take all of that tension off without proper care. So that is also why it is better to take one string at a time.
Can You explain to me why do you need to clipp off the ball end? Why don't you use it to lock the string in strin winder? Place the string backwards, first through the winder, than over the nut and when the ball end tuch a winder simply cut off the string over the floyd rose on right lenght. Why nobody use this way to re-string the floyd rose? Sorry for bad englesh, im from Bosnia. Please explain.
I need to change the strings from 011 to 012 on my Ibanez Ergodyne which has the Edge 2 I think, would I be able to use this video as a guide or should I look else where?. This is my 1st guitar with this kind of Trem set up the others are just have standard Trem nothing fancy like the edge/floyds so any advice would be good.
@deyanxakepa1 Well I want to take all the strings off my guitar, and clean my neck. It gets dirty from playing so much. can you make a vid about taking all the strings off cleaning the neck then putting fresh strings on and how to adjust the strings and tremelo?
This video doesn't show the problem of having an Ibanez with a tremolo - i am going crazy retuning my guitar after changing all strings. Every time i tune one string all other 5 get out of tune due to tension on the tremolo. For a guy that never uses the tremolo - the tuning drives me nuts.
anup mipun adjust spring tension. Bridge going down - increase spring tension till level Bridge going up - lower tension till level. This is if you have an Edge Zero
Changing the strings for the first time on an ibanez rg450 and I can't undo the string stopper bolt :S. It's done up way too tight and I've just taken the first string off of the peg! Am I doing something wrong?
I believe you need to release the string at the bridge. you should have gotten an Allen wrench key with the guitar that you need to use on that string's saddle screw on the bridge. If you have no wrench you can buy one at a hardware store. take the guitar with you to make sure you get the right size. I believe where you are stuck in reference in the above video is around: 2:34-2:47. Don't panic we'll get you through it. If your off at the peg and cant get down to the bridge: 2:12-2:25 Need to get a 3mm wrench at the local hardware store. to be sage take the guitar with you to make sure the Wrench fits. As well as ask anyone in the hardware store to help you find the right tool. (the will do it for you) unless you get a Dick :) Since this was a year in responding.....pls tell me how you did???
Hello, very good demonstration vdo. Thank u. btw, I own exactly the same guitar but don't remember the name of the series model of this one. Can anybody give me the correct model number of this guitar?
if you block the trem, which you should, not included in this video, it should not be a problem, however, you run the risk of your neck moving out of position, Ibanez have great truss rods so it should not be a problem, but I always replace one string at a time, I have had better luck with that.
I love Ibanez guitars and have one myself, but compared to a Fender Stratocaster or pretty much any Gibson I have ever owned, this restringing process is a major unnecessary song and dance aka pain in the @$$ and a massive waste of time and energy.
It's not an Ibanez issue, it's any guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo. I don't find it to be too much of a hassle and the rewards of the world's best double locking tremolo system are immense.
Wrong Wrong Wrong!!!!! When changing each string, "Stretch" each new string a FEW times and tune to pitch and REPEAT so there is no Pitch change for the most part. Do the same to the string that shares the same Pressure pad. then LOCK the SAME pressure pad down. Remove the next pressure pad and do the same as the previous for the next two strings. Move to the last pressure pad and do the same for the last two strings. No wonder why people are bitching about string changes on the EDGE bridges!!!! OH BTW you can use the same technique on FLOYD's too!!! you save a lot of post string change tuning if you follow this. For Single String change: unlock pressure pad and replace string. Reset fine tuning screw to Neutral (Middle) stretch string and tune (using tuning peg on headstock) repeat till string is holding pitch. the string sharing pressure pad , set fine tuner to Neutral and tune using tuning peg. once those strings are in tune, lock pressure pad down and tune WHOLE guitar using fine tuners. Keeping two pressure pads locked while changing string (S) keeps your set up close and keeps the bridge level. Only fine adjustments are needed at this point Enjoy and Jam!!!
NEVER NEVER NEVER release the 3 pressure pads at one time. Doing so may leave you open and susceptible in the end to needing a guitar adjustment or may leave you tuning the guitar for a long time may also leave your trem/bridge out of standard. I've been there before and it is no fun with an edge trem
DereMemo they are fucking "universal" guitars, especially Fender is absolutely not for metal, so it's shitty. 8-string monstrous Ibanez with floating trem and two active humbuckers is totally the best configuration.
Changing one string at a time is complete bullshit. You are supposed to clean your fretboard sometimes, and how on Earth are you gonna do that with your strings on?
Been playing 20+ years. First jem. Never thought I’d watch a string changing tutorial 😂
You can always run the string thru the peg and let the ball end "anchor" to the peg when tuning up. If you're going to cut the strings anyway, just cut the excess length at the bridge and slip it into the holding blocks.

Why does my high e string keep breaking
because it's a 9. ghs sell 9.5 so try one of them and keep your other 5 strings.
Its quit late but I had a same problem. I solved it by going half step down
Too much tension probably
Because you are hitting it too hard. Work on the dynamics

@@CroatiaSurvival Nope, thanks though!
@nicksatch I don't know.. I've downloaded it form the Ibanez website... Maybe RG series
you say low E - 14th fret height between strings should be close to at least 2mm but as I looked at it closely , it was like 4mm ??
what is the use of those screws in the body in the ending of strings ?
Thank you. I'm glad to hear that :)
@41x3r Yes.. .This is the same video. I uploaded it because it is a good video. I think it is helpful. Don't you think?

why .009 strings?? are ibanez necks that fragile??
@GLINDameer It will be difficult to set up the tremollo and the stings on proper height. As they said on the video the tremollo must be horizontal
Also, the six strings produce a lot of tension on the neck, it is not a good idea to take all of that tension off without proper care. So that is also why it is better to take one string at a time.

I uselly take off all strings. then i put on the new strings. It never have been any problems sofar the new string is the same thickness tex 0.09
I need to change the strings from 011 to 012 on my Ibanez Ergodyne which has the Edge 2 I think, would I be able to use this video as a guide or should I look else where?. This is my 1st guitar with this kind of Trem set up the others are just have standard Trem nothing fancy like the edge/floyds so any advice would be good.
why is it necessary to use .009 strings? Ive got mine set up with .010 and all I had to do was add a spring to the back.
use any gauge you want, I use 8 to 38
@deyanxakepa1 can we use 11-52?
hi!
My 19-20fret e string is not sounding vey well
Any suggestion please!!!?
@deyanxakepa1 Well I want to take all the strings off my guitar, and clean my neck. It gets dirty from playing so much. can you make a vid about taking all the strings off cleaning the neck then putting fresh strings on and how to adjust the strings and tremelo?
@4narchy77 Yes. I did it. It's OK. The guitar is great.
why cant i take off all the string all the string at the same time??//Answer
This video doesn't show the problem of having an Ibanez with a tremolo - i am going crazy retuning my guitar after changing all strings. Every time i tune one string all other 5 get out of tune due to tension on the tremolo. For a guy that never uses the tremolo - the tuning drives me nuts.
it sounds like you should leave the upper pad locks off (near the keys) and just tune the guitar before locking everything down again for fine tuning
Here I am roughly 5 years later
It's very useful video about Floyd Rose!
You saved my day
"Take your guitar to an authorized Ibanez center" damn...I have a Dean lol
Tips to adjust the bridge height..plz
anup mipun adjust spring tension.
Bridge going down - increase spring tension till level
Bridge going up - lower tension till level.
This is if you have an Edge Zero
thx !! it was really helpful :D
wat happens if i use gauge 10 strings? plz reply fast ty
Thank you so much for this!
@TheFlamesOfHeart It is similar!!
As well as ask anyone in the hardware store to help you find the right tool. (the will do it for you) unless you get a Dick :) Since this was a year in responding.....pls tell me how you did???
Everytime I tighten the string from the peg head.. it comes off from the Bridge... can someone help me
I had same problem. Regardless, of what the literature says, you have to torque strings fairly tight at the bridge, more than just snug.
@deyanxakepa1 yea but still stop caling it a floyd rose, just call it an ibanez trem
Snazzy does it!
WHAT STRINGS ARE RECOMENDED FOR FLOYD ROSE?
I'm seven years late but 9 - 42 ratio strings.
help my trem is not paralel he is comig very far up please help me?
Hello, very good demonstration vdo. Thank u. btw, I own exactly the same guitar but don't remember the name of the series model of this one. Can anybody give me the correct model number of this guitar?
i think rg4exfm1
damn i bought 10 guage strings what now? it wont work well?
.09 strings? Do .10 strings work?
they will
skyprop great, but I've already made up my mind between a Floyd and this lol
Would it be bad to change string gauges? (.010 to .009)
No, as long as your setup is changed accordingly.
plz show me for changing at ZR tremolo with ZPS2 !! ;) thanks...
@thebigw1004 Yes 9-42 I think
if you block the trem, which you should, not included in this video, it should not be a problem, however, you run the risk of your neck moving out of position, Ibanez have great truss rods so it should not be a problem, but I always replace one string at a time, I have had better luck with that.
@GHOSTSLAYER234 no it doesnt matter
Well, it's not too hard actually. /watch?v=P1c-7-VMY_w
Actually you should remove all strings at the same time so you can clean your fretboard.
@RemusStelistu Hahah do it by ourself... In Bulgaria everyone do the things by themselves. Repair the car, changing guitar strings....
you have to use .009 for any floyd rose tremolo correct?
I love Ibanez guitars and have one myself, but compared to a Fender Stratocaster or pretty much any Gibson I have ever owned, this restringing process is a major unnecessary song and dance aka pain in the @$$ and a massive waste of time and energy.
It's not an Ibanez issue, it's any guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo. I don't find it to be too much of a hassle and the rewards of the world's best double locking tremolo system are immense.
@slash4207 god ireally hope so
@4narchy77 Yes. I did it just like that.
it's so much work. Next time I just don't buy this model of guitar lol
it is not a problem if you take them all of in the same time, believe me
@deyanxakepa1 got it all resolved the day i asked. but thanks a lot for the video. taught me a lot
The string ball stays In the tuner
the other end goes in the trem
Dr. Mtz yeah if you want an ugly as fuck guitar setup
Why do people say it is so hard to change strings on a Floyd Rose?
Because of the multiple parts to deal with, and also the bridge tension to deal with.
Great guitars, but that retaining block NEVER works on the higher strings. They always slip out.
In other words Its a pain in the ass to do I would def upgrade to a floyd rose system
He kinda look like Paul Stanley
I've been there before and it is no fun with an edge trem
high fret
damn im glad i play bass
I don't know my friend. Try it but first do a research about the bridge of your guitar.
@nova495 Ok I will change the title
Man this is just a hassle compared to conventional electric guitars!
wtf 9 gauge is too thin
This is kind of a pain in the ass
what a pain in the ass………..buy a gibson ,,,,,huh
DereMemo they are fucking "universal" guitars, especially Fender is absolutely not for metal, so it's shitty. 8-string monstrous Ibanez with floating trem and two active humbuckers is totally the best configuration.
I'd rather change my strings every day on an Ibanez floyd than get a fucking Gibbons
Changing one string at a time is complete bullshit. You are supposed to clean your fretboard sometimes, and how on Earth are you gonna do that with your strings on?
Sadžid Smajkić it’s a floating trem dumbass... it will collapse if you release them all at once...
