Hi Helen! My morning was rubbish LOL and then I saw a new video here and was delighted. So thanks. :). New art supplies are always fun aren't they? So sorry about the bathroom situation. In some ways its good that the water broke through instead of sitting in the ceiling potentially causing black mold which would be horrible to get rid of. Hope the plumber brings good news.
Hi Helen! I got a mention :)!!it was me who asked about the watercolour canvases. Looking forward to you trying the ones from Art Discount to see what you think of those as well. It was also me who recommended the Daniel Smith Primatek :) - yes they are expensive but such a joy to work with - try them wet on wet - the explosion of colour is beautiful. If you're thinking of expanding your Danial Smith collection here's a few of my current favourites - Cascade Green, Green Apatite Genuine, Moonglow, Imperial Purple, Kyanite Genuine, Bronzite Genuine and Hematite Violet Geniune. The granulation on some of those is outstanding. For info - normally Jacksons is the cheapest for Daniel Smith - esp if you are buying single tubes rather than a set.
Thank you for the paint recommendations, that's really helpful. I briefly had another go with the Daniel Smith paints I've got, and they are lovely! I'm looking forward to seeing the results on the other boards too - though typically I'm now back to paper for a little bit!
When I get a block around creating work to be my portfolio I remind myself that it won’t be my portfolio forever. New paintings will come, some go and the new creative faces you crave will come in time 💜 I like to practice those types of things in a sketchbook or art journal. I thought about doing the mastery program but I cant bring myself to give up my play time and I don’t have time/energy for both right now. You can add watercolour grounds to boards to prime them.
Yes that's a really good point, thank you. Maybe I should just get on with it, and I'm finding excuses! I've just bought some watercolour ground - though I haven't tried it yet. I'll also have a go at making my own as it's quite expensive. Have you used it?
if you want to make a success of your course then you absolutely have to start showing up for yourself, taking a course like that (im doing hnc art and design at college) is a commitment, you are committing to to spending x amount of work learning. I treat it like a job, I have 3 days that are mandatory in college but a workload that requires a lot of work done from home, I don't de-commit the work from home. my 4 days off are spent with the majority of it working on college assignments or research for them. If you don't make these commitments then you'll never prioritise yourself and your learning journey.
Looking forward to seeing how the board looks with watercolour. 😊
Me too!!

Well done you!
Why not use colored pencil for the faces along with your watercolor painting?
Yes, that's something to try, thank you. :)
