They werent evicted, 50% along the coast died out within 2 years from Smallpox. And no it wasn’t done on purpose. The British came at a time during the age of engligtenment and seeked to befriend them. They were squatting on what was probably Crown Land in the modern era.... This is now a National Park...After WW2 the people living there under harsh circumstances should have been accommodated...
I went for a bush run about 5 years back and found these huts. I didn't have a good look around as I thought people occupied the area and didn't want to intrude. Think I'll need to revisit. There are also old abandoned military installations dotting the harbour cliff tops from WWII.
I used to look at those huts each week day in the early 2000's totally unaware that no one lived in them. I always thought that it would be an amazing place to live but terrible access
I love these kinds of places, it's great to just chill out inside and watch it deteriorate for a hundred years or so before returning to the mundane life of a human taxidermist.
