@@hiimraymond9891 they are pretty solid, especially the MK7 generation. I suggest looking up common problems for both gens and know what you're getting yourself into. Maintenance is definitely higher than on some Japanese cars (I had a 2012 Civic before my MK6 GTI), but the GTI is way more fun. You can get some decent power out of these engines with a simple tune and a few bolt-ons - I think MK7 makes 300+ with just a tune, which is insane.

@@crusso7587 like mine....an MK5 GTI with a swapped with MK6 R engine and a Big Turbo kit. Best of both worlds.

what do you mean by "successful"? Successful in racing? They are pretty good fun daily drivers, as long as you maintain them well
