    How I got here...
7 yrs old: Inspired by a book about Mozart, I knew I wanted to become a composer.
15 yrs old: Joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Composer Fellowship Program, mentored by Steven Stucky.
22 yrs old: Earned my B.M. in Composition from USC, studying under Donald Crockett, Stephen Hartke, Frank Ticheli, and Bruce Broughton.
24 yrs old: Completed my M.M. at Juilliard under John Corigliano.
29 yrs old: Named Composer-in-Residence at the California Symphony.
30 yrs old: Graduated with a D.M.A. from Columbia University and joined their faculty.
31 yrs old: Premiered “Aysheen” with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Today: I have a growing catalog of compositions that have been performed in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. These works include pieces for orchestra, chamber ensemble, vocalists, soloists, and electronics. I also teach hundreds of students every year, in both private and group settings.
If you love to compose as much as I do, then you’ll never stop doing it.

Title pages for musical scores can include all sorts of things, like instrumentation, transposition information, duration, performance notes, program notes, and more. In this video, we’ll dissect a full array of orchestral, wind ensemble, and chamber scores to find commonalities and differences in their preparation. We’ll make sure to look at scores by major publishers, as well as self-published composers in our investigation.

This was very helpful! Thank you for posting this resource! I wish that this was taught better at university, instead I was just told to include certain items and the order is left up to me. (I can only speak about my experience.) Seeing a bunch of examples has shown me that I should go back and reorder the prefatory materials in my template and my catalog. This is especially beneficial for those who plan to self publish (like myself)

Re Adams, it does say "clarinet in Bb", so I think that would be enough to assume it is transposed- no key signature makes it harder to know for sure but as a clarinettist it definitely is transposed.

    • @saadhaddadmusic
      @saadhaddadmusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Absolutely, just in modern orchestral scores it’s very rare to see a transposed score (unlike wind ensemble or canonical orchestral music) so I had to double check on the spot here!

Thanks for sharing this...I've always known the first page of music is on the right side on an odd page number but never knew the reason why! So is Dib Press essentially just you in your studio then??? Also, how did you arrive at Dib if you don't mind me asking???

    Couple of questions:
    1. Do you do the pages within your music notation software or in another layout program and then merge it with the score?
    2. What is the mic you are using in the video?

    • @saadhaddadmusic

      1. the notation software does it! :) I use sibelius.
      2. It's the rode podmic, but I use the shure sm7b now.

Hey, I know this is a random question, but how do I look for colleges if I want to be both a Composer and conductor? I've been looking for music schools in general, and have watched your video on it, but I still am unsure of what to do. I just don't get how finding the right music school works, and what I should be doing for this career choice.

Well, I am a composer at heart and have been doing that for the better part of 6 years. However, it was only about 2 years ago that I decided to seriously pursue music. Now in respect to my basic musical experience, I am 17 years old and have been learning violin for two years. Last year I joined my local youth orchestra, and I've had some great experiences in that. Now, I do play the piano, however, it is not a performance instrument for me, since I only improvise material on it and then apply it when I compose on musescore. So far, my biggest accomplishments have been a quartet I composed that has been performed for a small audience and an upcoming concert with the youth orchestra where I will be playing my piano concerto as the soloist in my local theatre where the local symphony orchestra also performs. Now that is just my musical experience, but I am not sure about how to truly make a career out of that. The reason I wish to become a conductor is because I think it is a solid 'music job' that I can do, but I also have a passion for that sort of job. But of course, to me conducting turns this passion into a real career, that will allow me to be surrounded by music and give me experiences to make me a better composer. However, it is more for the reason that I would like to become a conductor/composer like my greatest influence, Gustav Mahler. But the real problem is that I don't know what makes a good music college, because I have talked with a music professor at a local college, and what they have told me is that to be a conductor you should really know good people (In other words, networking). Now I am led to believe that finding the right college is about finding the 'right people.' But there is no way I can really know about that. For context, I live in Washington state, and there is not much here for music, and thus I wish to travel out of state to pursue my career. I don't know if you would know anything about that, but I've seen your videos and I think you seem to have pretty good knowledge on how to navigate the music world. But the only resource I may be able to reach is the conductor of our local symphony orchestra, who attended the New England Conservatory. I could try to contact him and ask him all these questions, though I am asking you because I am trying to get all the advice I can get, since I am truly lost when it comes to creating a Conductor/Composer career. But so far, all I have done is try to get my music performed as much as I can, and post my music on my TH-cam channel, but I don't think I am getting anywhere. Thank you. @@saadhaddadmusic

@@CGRcomposer you seem like a passionate person. I know composers who have gone to be conductors. Pursuing a composition degree can be helpful but of course nothing in the music field nothing is guaranteed! And please don’t go into debt pursuing a music degree!
