The quick tip series consists of short videos on a guitar or amplifier repair or maintenance topic. In this episode, I address some scratchy pots and a switch on this old Squier Stratocaster. I also repair a loose output jack.

Excellent video , thank you 👍😎🍺

Good job on the tutorial. I do that most times when I get a guitar but there's another way to do it if you don't want to take the guitar apart in any way but one. Stew mac sells a tool that allows you to go through the potentiometer tops after you remove the knob. I make my own with a hairspray bottle cover lid. Small enough to fit over the potentiometer and make a vacuum against the pickguard. Poke a hole just big enough for the nozzle. That forces the air and deoxit through the top without ever opening it up. Goes down the shaft.
Oh, yes, I’ve seen that. Pretty neat tool.
@@hacksguitarhobby , yeah, saves a lot of time. Works well too on most applications.
That sounds pretty cool. Wouldn't it be a good thing though to fully take out the pots and harness ? I know it's a lot of work but you'd be able to inspect fully . I say that because I have a hallow body and all kinds of crap gets in there but this being closed I guess not. Anyways , love these tutorial vids saves alot of coin. 👍
Thanks a whole Bunch for sharing, grew a pair and tried it myself…thanks for the tutorial 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks, will try that first!
Good luck!
My 2021 Epiphones have CTS pots and electronics have no issues
Bigger pots and better quality pots tend to have more surface area, better materials, and wear a bit slower. I love CTS and Bourns pots.
What’s the contact cleaner?
The one used here is CRC, and I still use it some, but I will be ordering Deoxit (which I have used before) when this runs out.
Can i use WD 40???
I would not use traditional WD 40, but the company does make a contact cleaner that might be worth a try.
