I'm so excited to share this installment of the ecocystem pond series. Creating features for the pollinators and finishing the landscape were on the radar for quite a while. There still much more to complete, but only a few more episodes remain. What do you think the progress thus far and what's your favorite pollinating insect? I've always been fascinated with butterflies and moths, but beetles are cool too. Let me know and have a great weekend SerpaSquad!
I love moths, to the point that my first tattoo was a moth, concretely the Acherontia Atropos. I will always be amazed when nature makes coincidences in shapes like a skull and so on.
I love the series thus far. This project is a massive undertaking and it's inspiring to see an ecosystem emerge through it all. Around the end, I laugh a little when I saw you add a waterfall. Adding new water feature is so second nature to you that it is only a side note to this much larger video. This would be a big undertaking for most people.
I love all of the features for insects & pollinators!! Have you considered adding an insect hotel nearby? It seems like something that would already be on your radar for this sort of project
I feel like there is no way to truly end this series. The changing landscape as everything matures and seasons come and go would surely provide background for endless storylines. Hopefully there will be updates as time goes by. Truly one of the most moving series on TH-cam.
Wow, the parents actually stuck around until the last one left the nest! I was scared they would‘ve left already because all of the others were gone roughly at the same time. What amazing patience from them as well
Bird parents care for fledglings for quite a while after they leave the nest. So unless the first nestling to fledge was predated (unlikely to be known), its parents were still bringing it food and showing it the bird ropes in the cover and relative safety of the woods as they waited for the other four to fledge. And then they'll look after all five in this way -- and the fledglings will continue to seek (pester for!) this care well into being juveniles. Being a clueless fledgling out of the nest is an important, and often hilarious, stage in a bird's life. It is only when the juveniles look almost like mom and dad that the instinct to truly leave kicks in, and each will then go be their own adult Phoebes in their own small territories. Then they too will migrate, and then return in the years to come, repeat the cycle. Hooray a pollinator garden! I have two and they're so rewarding. You're making a beautiful and tranquil spot, and your continued hard work is definitely paying off! Thanks for sharing it with us.
I absolutely love this series on the development and expansion of your pond. Between documenting the local wildlife and explaining the reasons for your expansion and changes to the landscape, this has become your best video series.
Watching your hard work comes to fruition inspired me to fight me depression and gaming addiction. It shows me how an effort makes drastic changes. Now I don't waste my day just playing video games and lying down in bed. I turned them into something creative I started working out, drawing and start making the thing I love the most which is music. I would like to do something like this as well in the future when I have the land and the money. Thank you so much I really love and appreciate what you're doing.
Putting effort into valuable activities has been key to my development as well. I hope your efforts continue to lead into the direction of your greatest form.
This series is by far one of the most brilliant and beautiful you’ve done yet. In the many years of watching this channel, I have never been more moved I cannot wait for the next part!
I love watching bees work and drink where they can - if they find such a place, they tend to literally flock there. I'm sure that the insects really appreciated what you did for them. And the ecosystem in the area will appreciate the insects.
This was truly amazing! You‘ve crammed so much content into one 15 min video it‘s unbelievable! The whole hatch to leaving the nest journey of the birds, cinematic, calming footage of your pond, the frogs, the butterflies, the deer and still multiple diy projects. There‘s so much work put into this video and it really paid off
Tanner, you are a gift. Having watched your videos for years, I am in awe. I thought the animal room was fantastic, but this backyard effort to harmonize the ecosystem is next level! Your breath of skill, technique, and passion are such a wicked combination. Keep it up!
Dude you're like the Bob Ross of landscaping. You're super soothing to listen to and I gotta say your videos have been a real help with anxiety and antsy feelings. I'm so invested in the lives of the tiny inhabitants of this pond 🥺
I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this series. The wildlife shots are incredible, especially the phoebes' story. I also loved the bonus scaping in this installment.
I wish we knew what happened to the first of the 5 babies, hopefully it will return next season with its siblings. With that aside, this has been such a beautiful series and I for one, cannot wait to see how the ecosystem grows and matures. I hope even after the end of the initial establishing, we are treated to updates over time. Thank you for all you do, man, you are truly one of my favorite channels on youtube, and you inspire me to be a better steward of the world around me.
The photography is top level, which really helps me to appreciate all the details. Glad to see the phoebes got a second brood through to fledgling stage without being parasitized. Great work man, really enjoying this series.
bless the algorithm for bringing me to this channel. words can’t describe fully how much respect i have for you and your attention to detail; always with the wildlife in mind. every video is so calming and beautiful, i find myself breathing easier. truly, thank you for making this content.
Tanner, this is absolutely my favourite series you've composed to date! Your content has always been a delight and I absolutely adore your vivarium design; it has likewise been an amazing journey watching your ecosystem landscaping! I have been so enthralled that I have spent several of my weekdays the past few weeks excited for the next part of this journey. It has been such a delight seeing what you and the nature around you have been up to. Your narration is clear, peaceful, concise, and eloquent. Your cinematography and editing are top notch. Your respect and admiration for the natural world is contagious even to those of us who already shared kindred spirits. I've loved how you've dedicated such time and attention to detail to each species who plays a notable role, giving us their common names to know them by and really giving us an insight into this short window where their lives and yours overlapped. To echo what many before me have said, this has all the hallmarks of an incredible nature documentary. Thank you so much for sharing, and I look forward to seeing what you have to show us next week!
Tanner, if you want to see more pollinators than ever in your life, plant a little hoary mountain mint. Like all mints, it will spread so put it where you won't mind it's vigor. It is beautiful in the morning and evening light and has 10x the pollinators of everything else in the garden. Even beats button bush in bloom, and blooms longer. Thank you for this series.
You made a giant, outdoor terrarium/aquarium/riparium, without any glass enclosure! 🤪 Jokes aside, it really looks like so many of your other projects, only life-size! Amazing work!
6:18 flowering prairie plants, especially natives, WANT to be as close as possible. That's how they out complete weeds and keep a microclimate at their bases. The root systems are made to be on top of each other.
I love the segment on the birds! I come here for the builds and watery critters. I was happy to see the bitty birds grow and take flight as you continued the pond. 💜
I love how genuinely you enjoy replicating natural beauty. You make me happy to watch. I also loved how you thought to your self, "You know what this waterfall pond really needs? A tiny waterfall." and you were totally right, it looks fantastic and serene. Keep up the good work, the internet cheers for you
It’s crazy watching your channel develop from aquariums, paludariums, and terrariums to full blown nature documentaries. Love the way the channel is going!
As others have said, this has really felt like a nature documentary. It's so well done! Love how the pollinator garden is looking. Happy to see the Phoebe's did well for the most part!!
I love this update, especially the focus on insects. This pond series overall is wonderful and relaxing. I do miss the long scenic bit at the end of older videos, for simply marveling at your handywork, and watching the animals chilling out.
Thank you for sharing this amazing project! I feel inspired to sit in my local park and watch the animals. My favourite thing is watching the bumble bees bouncing around the lavender bushes ☺️
The small waterfall fits in perfectly with the pollinator garden. I can see it being used for bird bathing as well. The mix of interior and exterior projects makes your channel one I always check for new videos. Thanks!
Thank you for creating and sharing this series with us. Watching you through the years I am very impressed on how you have mastered your craft. You have provided me a peaceful place to land my brain as I recharge after a stressful week, for that, I can’t thank you enough.
What I like about your vids as opposed to someone like AntsCanada, is that you’re real about your process and the animals in your vids. You don’t create drama for clicks or patronise your audience by adding cartoonish and unrealistic sound effects. You know how to make pure nature entertaining without making any terrible decisions.
That's such an amazing water feature! I love the sound. Maybe spread some wildflower seeds around to give it a more natural look and to cover the space a bit more until the plants grow in.
I am very much digging the back yard era of this channel! The production quality has been going up steadily for quite a while now, but if he keeps it up he is going to end up with a Discovery show to manage too.
Hey Tanner! Its great that you make your yard more nature friendly. A few tipps to get even more wildlife: 1. For the butterflies: Even though you have a lot of pollinator plants they also need hostplants. Otherwise they can't reproduce. 2. A lot of insects and other animals need dead wood. I just discovered your channel and this series today and can I just say how much of a joy it has been to watch. From your beautiful designs to your delightful narration, it truly it fantastic. Thank you so much for your work!
I just had to say thank you for the series. After watching your videos. I have become acutely aware of all the additional wildlife around my pond and I too am including some additional features that I didn’t think about until you mention them. So happy to see apply your story telling and word building skills to this outdoor project! theres so much more to see, so many more plot lines 😊😊 you’re doing awesome
I never comment, im sorry for that, but I just had to say. I Love your tutorial videos, I've been watching for years! But your narration videos of this pond series have been absolutely PERFECT, no notes! Dont feel pressure to change into this as a creator, but just know the story is amazing, engaging, ect, ect. Thank you for your hard work and effort! ❤😊🎉
Hello friend, I came here after watching your bullfrog video and I just wanted to say your yard brings me a level of peace that I did not know existed. The beauty and tranquility of your yard is something that I hope to one day capture in my own yard. Thank you for taking the time to produce such an interesting video series.
Wow, great job, Tanner! This involved so much hard work and you did a great job of building something to benefit native wildlife! Don't forget bats as pollinators!
I'm always disappointed when a video finishes, because I don't want it to end! Your videos are not only inspirational, but are incredibly peaceful. I enjoy them SO much. Thanks to your instruction I went from zero to 5 tanks. Goldfish, Bumblebee Walking Toads, Nerite Snails, shrimp, High Expression Mourning Geckos and a few others. Never could have done it without you. Learning along the way. Loving your videos and looking forward to the next one.
I was waiting for another episode to drop for the pond series. honestly, i wish this series doesn't end at all. Your narration goes hand in hand with the changing landscape and it is very relaxing and engaging. keep up the good work !
Now that is heading towards the ultimate peace, and tranquility! You’re doing next level stuff in your backyard and I think it’s amazing! I’m hoping to convert an old child wooden swingset into an aviary and area for my Brazilian Redfoot tortoise to inhabit. In the aviary, I’d like to keep a flock of African finches. And the structure of the swingset already has built in the framework for a covered heated hide box for the tortoise with a little bit of modification. Keep up the great work! I’m loving the evolution!🐠🦯
your videos are some of my favorite on youtube, i love your creativity and dedication to all aspects of the projects and videos, thank you for sharing your amazing work with us!! 💚💚
I envy you ability to create attractive habitats on any scale. My challenge is the limitation of the 10' X 10' space my HOA allows me. I always get good ideas from watching your videos.

This is just season 1!
Definitely more to come. They pond is just the beginning of what I hope to create on the property.
@@SerpaDesign totally agree with this commenter. can't wait for season 2 already!
This has the most drama and beauty. Like I don't think I've ever been so invested in frogs and birds.
I definitely didn't expect to be this invested in birds either, that's for sure!
Wow, the parents actually stuck around until the last one left the nest! I was scared they would‘ve left already because all of the others were gone roughly at the same time. What amazing patience from them as well

Hey Tanner! Its great that you make your yard more nature friendly. A few tipps to get even more wildlife:
1. For the butterflies: Even though you have a lot of pollinator plants they also need hostplants. Otherwise they can't reproduce.
2. A lot of insects and other animals need dead wood. So a few more stumps and a pile of different sticks and branches would be really beneficial.

I hope you include some of this!
All in due time!
If you need a second waterfall and pond, you can always build one in my yard. I love this.
I have been absolutely loving this narrative so far! I love your efforts to plant native flowers to support native pollinators.
It may be worth your consideration to save an area of your land to make an environment suitable for burrowing bees, pollinators of which many species are threatened and in decline.
