I heard they were peaceful and keen for scritches so I wanted to look them up.

@@JohnRBIV as far as I see it, if you can’t hold an animal in your hands, look it in the eye, and dispatch it yourself, then you shouldn’t eat it. I came to this conclusion a long time ago when I was in college. We had a goat that we loved dearly, my roommates and I. In a large back yard with a wonderful pen we built. The goat ended up developing a very painful condition caused by a genetic deformity. The only option for him was euthanasia and the vet wanted to charge us hundreds of dollars. Myself and my boyfriend at the time took it upon ourselves to take his life as humanely as we could. We decided we’d honor him by eating and using as many of his parts as we could.
One of my roommates, a city girl, was so mortified at our decision that she moved out. She was not vegan or vegetarian in anyway…I thought to myself how could you eat animals with love and intelligence and be so disgusted with the process of rendering them for consumption?? I never understood…maybe our decision caused a moral dilemma for her, and she decided to turn to veganism, but I’ll never know for sure. Growing up in the country I saw many butchering and animal dispatching… it’s just what we have to do if we want to eat meat. I’ll never eat an animal I know can’t kill myself.

Despite how they look wolf eels are actually very curious creatures and are typically friendly. Their aggressive side is only when they feel threatened. Also despite their name they aren’t true eels neither are they aquatic wolves obviously. However their mating practice is similar to land wolves 🐺. A breeding pair that mates for life. But i don’t think they are active in raising their young however.

I like to think the reason Eels and other creatures similar to them enjoy the feeling of being pet and having attention given to them, is because of, for the pets, that all they get to sleep around or in, or near, is rough rocky terrain or coral, or rough course sand, so feeling either the diving suit or simply human hands is like them feeling something new and actually pleasant compared to the terrain they live in. Like how you would sleep on the floor for years only to be suddenly given the worlds comfiest bed for a night. And as for the attention, its likely out of just sheer Boredom, while also mixed with curiosity, since they see you just watching them but you're not doing anything outside of watch them, so as time passes they realize you are not a threat and become curious, which is when they swim up to you, and get a feel for you, where then it goes back to the first part.

I'm so interested as to why the eel seeks this out? Is it maybe trying to get a "cleaning", like it knows divers will scratch and handle it, so as to debried parasites or skin irritants from living a sedentary life? Does it actually enjoy the affection and seeks it out? I'm so curious.
