think this might be my favorite song of all time. it's masterly constructed. the old adage still holds true with me, NO ONE sounds like mewithoutyou and i see that as a great attribute.
Is it just me or is this the best single mewithoutYou has put out in like 10 years? It’s a different sound from them but it harkens back to the emotive heaviness they sort of lost over time.
Nope- this is the best song since January 1979- sound wise and lyrically. This one is about God happening to us despite our chase of God. “Will I meet you there?” And later “I’ll meet you there.”
I’m sure this comment might get lost by the wayside, but I hope it somehow reaches someone’s heart. I’ll start by saying that I’ve enjoyed MeWithoutYou for years. They’ve always struck a cord with me. But this song... My name is Julia. My dad - my hero, protector and best friend - passed away last Friday. I had prayed to him, and to God, to give me a sign. To give me something showing me that was dad was hearing my pleas and cries. His service was this past Monday and I felt compelled to write and speak of my dad. I couldn’t just let someone else do it. I was terrified. I felt alone and without any guidance from my father or from God. This song was released just hours before my dad’s funeral. The link to it was sent to my partner from an anonymous stranger who referred to themselves as, “friend.” I wasn’t alone. My dad was with me. God was with me. This song and it’s lyrical content is just too close to my circumstance for me to pass it as a coincidence. I am so grateful to this band in ways that I can’t even describe. This is God’s work carried out through a group of such talented people. “Who do you think needs who more?” Grabs my heart every. single. time. I will see him again. Thank you for my little miracle, thank you for sharing your talent and your words with the world- and with me. -Julia
If you need a song dealing with loss as personally as that I recommend Sufjan Stevens, his songs Casimir Pulaski Day and the Only Thing bring himself as a believer of Jesus Christ against the reality of death, both songs a decade apart, he brings a understanding element of embracing faith against hard questions no other musician would dare cover with conviction
Everybody is talking about the song in these comments. But the real star here IMO is the video editing. PERFECTLY captured the "mystery/lost era" spirit of the song
Honestly I personally really enjoy the overall noisy tone of the whole song. I feel like it really conveys a feeling of a lot occurring in a person’s mind with few moments of clarity and quiet found. Plus I just like the way it sounds so shoegazey.
Aight so can we talk about the huge reference to the book "1984" by George Orwell in this song? First of all the title has Julia in it, which is the name of Winston (the main character)'s illiciet love intrest. And the in the verse " 'Send a couple rats' said Julia." In the book, when Winston was tortured by the goverment it was the threat of being eaten alive by rats that finially broke his will. And then after he is released he meets Julia again and tells her he betrayed her under torture...and she admits she did the same. Hence the next line "I'd have done the same to you" Seems to make too much sense not for it to be intentional. Aaron Weiss is a geinus and I can't wait for the rest of the album!
They never disappoint with their music. This is why they are my favorite band. I discovered them 10 years ago and they have helped me so much over the years. So stoked for a new album.
It's such a rare song that grips you and shatters you from the first note, and I think MeWithoutYou has made me feel that euphoria more times than any other band I've ever listened to. Thank you for the catharsis.
in all fairness i think this line is in reference to the line before it, "coffe and a milk, now julia" as in: does the coffee or the milk need each other more. still a great line regardless!
I’ve been watching this since it was new and keep coming back. I love song, but the editing, and the aesthetic elevate the experience. To whomever made this: thank you.
This song is so powerful it makes my heart break for the ones I haven't even lost yet. It brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. It is like a love letter and eulogy combined - romantic and lost. Powerful is such a weak word for this music. I swear I'll meet you there, my love.
Today a thousand years Of strained affection and prayer Out beyond ideas of right and wrong is a field Will I meet you there? Ah ah Will I meet you there? so much texture, the echo like screams at the end are amaaazing, Mewithoutyou are so talented but I can totally tell Will Yipp influenced the sound a lot
Jason Keller I disagree. I think Descensus is one of Circa's better albums and The Amulet is Circa's best sounding album by far, both instrumentally and from a production standpoint (Anthony's singing is the best it's ever been, the instruments are all clear and distinct in the mix); they more or less completely dropped the brooding nature of OLG and Juturna, but kept developing the proggy sound of BSN, so maybe that direction just isn't something you have use for in your life.
I used to love me without you back in the day. They gave my teenage angst a way of expressing itself. Hearing them still feels deep and sacred but blunted by time and that thing which makes us feel less the more we grow
Best mewithoutyou album since brother/sister imho... and don't get me wrong they are all great. This is just exceptional. Anybody else getting a Fear Before the March of Flames vibe?

This song gives me goosebumps, it brightens my day, it hooks me up, even before I start listening to it. It's all I could have asked for and so much more than I expected... Whilst having high expectations. I'm amazed, blown away, in love and desperate, because I just can't wait for that album.
After the bus, I had prepared myself to wait at least another year to hear any new music from my favorite band. This is the most welcome surprise I could have asked for right now.
So I know the lyrical content of this song is heavily influenced by 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell but does anyone think that there is also a link between this song and the song of the same name by the Beatles, 'Julia'? I just can't help but think the lyric, "Standing on the lake shore, Julia. Silent as a seashell, Julia" speaks to the lyric, "Julia, Julia; ocean child calls me, so I sing a song of love, Julia. Julia, seashell eyes windy smile calls me," Not just in the use of the word "seashell" being in both songs but how they're almost in conversation with each other. In the Beatles' 'Julia', John Lennon sings of a Julia, described with aquatic imagery, calling out to him and him calling back whereas in mewithoutYou's 'Julia', Aaron Weiss has a silent Julia at a marine setting, possibly in view of another, possibly being spoken to but not responding. Maybe this link is a bit of a stretch but it certainly came to mind upon repeated listens.
It gets better and better every time, especially when you understand the lyrics.absolutely love mwY.I was so worried pale horses was their last. Glad to get 2 more albums.

Dude yes. Something about that shot of then flying over the field and the horses running compliments this song perfectly. I thought I was just weird.
Honestly I personally really enjoy the overall noisy tone of the whole song. I feel like it really conveys a feeling of a lot occurring in a person’s mind with few moments of clarity and quiet found. Plus I just like the way it sounds so shoegazey.

Henrik Burdett yes, I noticed this reference as well!
at 1:47 the frame is of a scene from the film adaption of 1984.
I think your right! Makes a lot of sense.
I feel like they had a strong appreciation for coffee in the period where they're renting the room, as well.

Honestly this band keeps me alive
The whole ep is untitled and out on run for cover:):):):):)
I don't know who programmed / created / timed the individual effects for the 'dodgy video cassette recording' look, but they absolutely NAILED it.

Will Yip is a god. Everything he touches is gold!
NEW LA DISPUTE THIS YEAR MIXED BY WILL YIP!!!!
This song is extremely good, but usually Will Yip ruins every other band. La dispute and Circa survive is sooo generic since they use him. Sadly
I personally like what Will Yip does, but that's just me. When La Dispute recorded Wildlife at Stadium Red, that sounded REALLY good too.
