    Great interview. She is definitely a legend in the vegan community, her videos were always with so much research. I remember her old videos about horse riding, it gave me so much knowledge for debates.
    Also, one of the few persons that interviewed Gary Yourofsky.
    Best part of this interview, for me, was: "for me is about ethics, if being vegan will take 20 years of my life, so be it, I don't give a sh*t". Awesome ethics.
    Actually, in the beggining, Alex O'Connor did also a video saying that "yes, if being vegan will take, let's say, 10 years of your life, comparing to the misery and suffering of what animals go through, it is still a moral imperative to be vegan" in a conversation with "Rationality Rules". Of course this didn't hold up for him, he apparently changed his ethics first in a post and then blame IBS after in a video...

      Thanks it wasn't easy without proper stabilization and my 16 mm was sketchy on the focus. The lighting was difficult because of course outside things change. And it was all running then of course as usual. This was shot back in 2022. I've since got a new stabilizer that I was actually just working on rigging on a little more today. I also have a new camera that will be a good match for the full frame I get hopefully sometime this year. Something forward I'll be trying to get way more stable images, start practicing using S-Log so I can grade better, hopefully get any drone with a much better sensor and three lenses. But I'm loving this new camera and stabilizer. I'm also doing a handheld rig that would probably be really great and a tight spot like inside her bus. And the full frame if I can get it would be even better in a tight spot like that.

    King Solomon said,'There is nothing new under the sun.' It's a choice and many people make it for many reasons. People need to choose education before they feed others so they don't harm them. Can you do a program on how many animals we would be dealing with if they weren't part of a food supply, honest question, I don't mean anything sparky about it. Thank you

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's pretty easy. No need to do a video on that. As demand goes down forcing them into existence goes down. It's simply supply meets demand. As people consume less we force less animals into existence. Pretty cut and dry. Hope that helps

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Plants like the behavioral and physiological characteristics of sentience. This has to matter because you have to know what sentience means and where it comes from in order for sentience to even matter.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do believe just about everything is sentient if the universe itself is conscious. If you watch joe scott about the universe being conscious - to me, photons are consciousness. Sentience is phonons (yes - phonons, not photons). Anything that is hit by a photon becomes sentient at that moment. Why? Because there's an exchange of information (which is magnons), and that makes both the photon sentient and what it hit sentient - because it's an exchange of knowledge. Because photons go into and are used by, and hit plants - they are some of the most sentient beings on this planet. The phononic activity is expressed by the electron transport chain in chloroplasts for photosynthesis. Phonons are the 'feeling' part of consciousness - phonons are mechanical ripples that come from the frequency waves of photons. It's 'perceived' (according to the deifnition of sentience) in their own way - the impact of a photon on an individual's materials that make up its body is unique to them - the imprint of consciousness left on them.
      There are other definitions about sentience, but I feel those relate more to awareness of expressiveness. To me, sentience is awareness and expressiveness and just because someone doesn't notice that, doesn't automatically mean a being isn't sentient. To me, even rocks can be sentient and are conscious at the photonic level.
      Some people believe that plants, being sessile, aren't conscious nor sentient - that to me isn't true. Just because we don't move doesn't meant we're not aware and interacting with the world around us - we still do - moving or not.
      You can read about it under the consciousness page of my personal website.
      I have yet to separate out a page for sentience, but wrote about it there somewhat.@@VeganLinked

  • @extropiantranshuman

    43:27 the definition is what's practicable so being in a room like that is possible too - and is the fullest extent possible. It's because it doesn't talk about practicality that is why I have realized I fundamentally disagree with the definition by the vegan society.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It has to be practical otherwise it's not sane. We can't expect people to do something that's not practical. Humans are animals too.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      and that's why I decided upon not being a vegan - because I seriously don't pander to the Vegan Society's definition - that to me doesn't make sense. It should be about what's practical, but it says nothing about it.
      Why does it not mention practical? Because the definition is focused more on fantasy than reality and I prefer to focus on reality.
      I don't believe that going as far as possible is always the best way to handle helping animals. It's not even realistic all the time. Just because it's as far as possible and is practicable - doesn't automatically mean that it's appropriate for one's life and situation and for helping out animals.
      That's why I feel the VS's definition works against itself in promoting what it's against. It's an attempt at most, but I want to see better. That's why I made my own definition - but even that can use work.
      I can't wait for a discussion somewhere about improving the definition.@@VeganLinked

      Veganism has nothing to do with health. God this is annoying

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@SnakeySerpentine well if you're being consistent it does have something to do with health. Like in so many ways it has to do with health. If it wasn't healthy then it would be insane to encourage people to do this. Because humans are animals and we want what's best for animals we should include humans in the equation of compassion. And it just happens to be what's best for non-human animals is best for human animals. And this applies to mental health as well as physical health. And this is everything from chronic disease to non-infectious disease to mental illness. Yeah veganism has a lot to do with health. And trying to separate it to me is annoying because it's completely illogical. At least when I'm thinking about it...

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SnakeySerpentine But don't get me wrong I do you like making it clear that it is a philosophy and not a diet. And I think it's important to make that clear because after all it is and when somebody understands this and they truly become vegan they will find a way to make it work whereas if they treat it like some diet then there's no reason to stick with it in the face of social pressures and whatnot. But I think it's very important to make the message about being as healthy as possible while also making it clear that it's a philosophy first.

Her bite sized vids was what helped me switched from vegetarian to vegan finally! Best decision ever and I love Emily! She's so thoughtful, smart, and so cool!! Thanks for letting us into her world a bit!!!

    What Emily said about a visit to a "nice slaughterhouse" actually shocked me. I did not realize that those exist and that people can have such a deep disconnection. I admire every vegan that has the courage to go to these places, but this sounded - like Emily said - worse, and on so many levels.

    I'm with her on being vegan even if it were unhealthy or cut years off my life. We're not some gods for the life of a human to outweigh the lives of the animals we'd murder for a non-vegan lifestyle. Thankfully, I've been vegan for 16 years and my health is only better than before.

    1:03:47 it was a sad time in then 90s not being respected as a kid. We should have much more respect for kids - but where do we do this? I feel if we can go in a vegan direction - maybe we'll respect kids more. Kids are the future - they deserve the utmost respect. However, older people built the world - and we shouldn't lose them either.

    19:03 the thing about bitesizevegan is that while the videos are great intros, it's going to be confusing the more you look at it deeper. She went deeper already, but there's a limit as to how far she goes - because there comes a point where the ideas break down and she doesn't want to tackle them. I actually thought about creating a youtube channel based off that, but didn't and won't - but I want to. There's so many deeper dives not explored.
    For instance - the 'burger' can't be vegan to me, as its origins are animal based.

    • @VeganLinked

      You're meant to be eaten by bacteria. Everything is meant to be eaten at some point. Does that make it right for you to be violent as f***? Does that mean support the most violent and atrocious industry on the planet most invasive as it is the leading cause of deforestation, desertification, aquatic dead zones, zoonotic diseases that kill millions of people so people can increase the risk for chronic disease and all cause mortality based on an infantile habituated behavior that's nostalgic of barbaric times long ago? Or do you want to evolve like the rest of us into being more humane humans?

  • @extropiantranshuman
    @extropiantranshuman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    there is an issue with the animals dying less by veganism - because insects die by quadrillions for plants via pesticides. The fish and bycatch live off algae - which isn't a raised plant - and that's in the trillions (per year) - if we compare the biggest numbers. Then we have to think about all the fish and other animals used for manure and fishmeal and other fertilizers and you can see how plants start to lose. So if animals stopped eating crops, people would take that place - which won't change much of anything. Still - it's not excuse not to be vegan - you just go with veganic methods. You can culture plant tissue to avoid harming the plant and use bioreactors to avoid pesticides. What's the issue? The issue is that this is a carnist vs carnist argument. If you're killing animals to eat plants - that's not vegan. But if we count it as so, I see why the argument is made that way - because it makes sense about more animals being killed for crops than for meat - because I see how it's true. 43:15.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's only 8 billion people. Yet over 70 billion animals are forced into existence to be slaughtered every year. Plus the bykill from what those animals eat. So all of this death and it only results in like 20 maybe 30% global food intake using more than 10 times the amount of land than plant agriculture that results in close to 80% global food intake. If you include aquatic life eating animals results in trillions more animals killed than plant agriculture. Plant agriculture might result in 7 billion animals killed while resulting in four times the amount of global food intake. If we switched to just eating animals that might be 10 billion animals accidentally killed for plant agriculture to feed the whole world instead of 70 billion animals intentionally killed PLUS all of their accidental deaths from feed to just feed 20% of the world. Surely can see how astronomically unsustainable and deadly eating animals is.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      not sure why you ignore the quadrillions of insects killed for plant agriculture in your calculations. While we can grow plants in water to avoid killing insects - the best we got is kelp. When you grow plants on land - you end up with competitions for land space unseen in the ocean (namely because we've killed so much in the water to begin with to have much open space).
      Still - even if you grow crops in the ocean - you are taking the sunlight away from all the ocean creatures underneath it. That too is very detrimental - because we mainly grow crops on the surface of water - like kelp, rice, etc.
      Again - it's compared to trillions at most underwater.
      Sometimes raising animals underwater leads to invasive parasites and animals growing on fish - like sea lice and salmon, or worms in fish. Still - there are nematodes that I heard grow inside plants.
      If you want to go into the whole soil erosion killing of the soil microbiome to grow root crops and the parasites that're boiled when you eat fish and the sea lice, etc. - there's so much life that is killed in both industries! I don't consider either to be vegan.
      To me, what's most vegan is cell culturing plants - that way you don't have to grow livestock for cells. Also if you forage plants that are pest-resistant and it's close by to avoid hurting life as you walk, etc. - then possibly veganism is better for the animals at that extreme than eating dead carcasses found in nature. I feel with foraging - you will likely experience microorganisms, like worms, etc. regardless of plant or animal eaten.
      So indoor bioreactors - veganism wins, but growing crops outdoors - I would say it does lose in comparison to eating animals.
      What it does win in is preserving biodiversity - it saves species of animals and plants when vegan compared to eating animals. However, this is not true in biodiverse habitats where clear-cutting land for growing plants like chocolate, palm oil, etc. hurts more animals than catching a fish out of the ocean or eating insects off a plant (or even eating their remnants that they leave behind).
      To me, not every animal product is going to hurt animals - if you consume what an animal leaves behind - such as footprints for a scientific observation. Not every plant will involve less animal suffering - carnivorous plants exist. If you eat a plant, you might accidentally hurt animals while picking that plant. It all depends.@@VeganLinked
