    This is a Bob Ross level happy little accident. I love to see more unscripted videos like this one, especially with an instrument like the lumatone. Even if you think it's boring, it's a joy to listen to for plebs like me for whom anything outside 12edo still sounds otherworldly and sometimes "wrong".

      glad to hear that. this improv is definitely boring to me. i originally recorded it with a really slick synth patch but for some reason swapped it to piano. scheduled to upload. planned to redo it with the synth patch. then a week passed and it went live >,

    You're at it again, advance tuning my brain. I find it satisfying when every so often you hit pure interval major chords, that grinding sound is unmistakable. I'm impressed with your ability to take on the challenge of learning to play such a complex keyboard.

    • @camtaylormusic
      @camtaylormusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      31edo. Notice all of the diatonic classic major/minor stuff, the "negative pythagorean comma" (diminished second) diesis shift, and the 7+7+7+5+5=31-tone layout.

    • @joana8502
      @joana8502 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the keyboard follows a 5L2s pattern, 5+5+3+5+5+5+3 = 31. there are two main directions (shown by the colours), along which increments are 5 and 3 (increments are 2 = 5-3 in the third direction). so it really is a direct generalization of the 12-tone keyboard.

    Boring just means it's perfect to go to sleep to lmao
    I've noticed that ever since I've dived into microtonality, that the "off" notes no longer sound alien, just like any other interval. Oftentimes I can't even tell I'm listening to a microtonal piece.
    Good shit here. Even if it's boring to you, I'm into it.

  • @Skatche

    I had a revelation while listening to this. The mind favours intervals whose ratios are based on small integers, such as 3:2 or 4:3. But it equally disfavours intervals for which a harmonic of one tone is approximately equal to a harmonic of the other -- that's what creates the "beats" effect between two clashing notes. Those are precisely the intervals for which ax1 approximately equals bx2, where x1 and x2 are the tonal frequencies and a and b are large integers within an order of magnitude of each other.

      Lumatone. It's an isomorphic keyboard, which makes it particularly usefull for non 12 tone types of scales.
