- There is basically no sunlight in the north balcony and under the big tree, can I grow vegetables? I found out 18 kinds of vegetables suitable for this environment for my friends to choose. Today I want to talk about shade-tolerant vegetables. Some vegetables need about 3 to 6 hours of light, which is relatively shade-tolerant. There are also some leafy vegetables that are particularly shade-tolerant and can grow well within two or three hours of sunlight every day. If you want to grow vegetables in a totally sunless environment, you can only grow some special vegetables, such as leeks, garlic, bean sprouts, mushrooms and the like.
The following are the more shade-tolerant vegetable varieties, see which one you prefer.
1. Garlic seedlings: garlic is very shade-tolerant. Soak garlic in a shallow water tray and put it indoors. A few days will grow a stubble of green garlic seedlings. It does not require much light, basically it can grow a stubble in 7 days. It's delicious no matter how you cook it, and it can grow longer after eating!
2. Fungus
Fungus dishes have a taste similar to fungus, hence the name. They are mainly distributed in Sichuan, Yunnan and other places. Wild fungus grows under forests, hillsides, and grasses, so it is resistant to shade and humidity. It is one of the few greens that can grow well in the absence of light. If the temperature is right, the fungus can be harvested in more than a month after planting. If you don’t have seeds, you can go to the supermarket to buy some fungus and just cut the old part. If the sun is insufficient, the photosynthesis of the fungus will be reduced, the concentration and frequency of fertilization should be reduced, and the picking time should be postponed, and then picking one week after fertilization. The fungus vegetable can be picked many times in succession once planted. The branches and leaves of the fungus are luxuriant, and the photosynthesis efficiency is relatively high. Even if it is planted under the forest with weak light, it will not affect its growth.
3. Ginger: Experienced farmers will plant ginger in a cool place, better than if it is under a tree. This is because ginger does not require high light during the entire growth cycle, and is very suitable for planting on a balcony facing north with insufficient sunlight. The best way to grow ginger is to use sandy soil. After planting, you should not cover the soil too deeply. Leave enough space. As the ginger grows upward, continue to add soil to cover the emerging ginger.
Ginger does not have a high demand for sunlight during the entire growth process. As long as it maintains sandy soil and good humidity, it can grow well. It is not tolerant to strong light, especially in the seedling period. If the light is strong, it will slow down the growth of ginger, and the ginger pieces that grow out will be very thin. It is important to keep the soil moist and fertile. Ginger does not need to be exposed to sunlight to grow normally. It has a spicy taste, adding a little when cooking can effectively enhance the taste and increase appetite.
4. Vegetables such as lettuce, lettuce, and lettuce
Lettuce is a well-known shade-tolerant vegetable. There are many edible varieties with different ornamental properties. Lettuce is suitable for sowing and cultivation, and it can grow and mature in more than 30 days. Pay attention to timely replenishing fertilizer and water, and not let the potting soil be too dry. Lettuce can be grown all year round in many parts of our country. It is good for salads and stir-fry. You can try several kinds of lettuce and see which one grows best on your balcony. Lettuce, also known as green bamboo shoots, will grow faster under better light conditions, and will not affect the growth under relatively weak light conditions in the shade, except that the underground part swells slowly.
