Even tho now I have become more of a metalhead, nothing will probably ever outshine my love for pup´s music. It is going to be forever buried in my heart and soul
This business ain't for the faint of heart I fell for the bullshit Then I started falling apart And by the end of the summer I let 'em get the best of me What a god damn bummer What a waste of my energy So I spent a long time down in the basement Instead of rolling with the riff-raff Cause I know better, I know better than that Yeah, I spent a lifetime trying to make it And when I finally faced the facts I never felt so shitty before I never felt so miserable Following familiar patterns I'm falling back into ruin I'm getting serious douche chills Just being in this room I couldn't even see the humour With the situation I was in Knocking back jell-o shooters Till I puked in the kitchen Yeah I spent a long time down in the basement Instead of rolling with the riff-raff Cause I know better, I know better than that I spent a lifetime trying to make it And when I finally faced the facts I never felt so shitty before I never felt so miserable They used to all talk down to me And now they're biting their tongues Used to say, "Don't quit your day job" Well guess what, I never had one I never felt so shitty before I never felt so miserable I spent a long time down in the basement Instead of rolling with the riff-raff Cause I am no better, I'm no better than that Yeah, I spent a long time trying to make it Well, I've finally faced the facts I never felt so shitty before I never felt so miserable
It's funny because I feel like they are really well known compared to when I first went to go see them. But yes, so many people don't know the joy of how good this band is.
If you look up Topanga (PUP's old band name) - Oceans and find the full length demo you can hear a country song by them. It's "The Shield" and is the last song on the album. The whole thing is great though, strongly suggest listening all the way through.
when i was a teenager, i heard " i know better than dad " now six years have passed, i'm an adult. and now i can hear it right: " i'm no better than that "
Even tho now I have become more of a metalhead, nothing will probably ever outshine my love for pup´s music. It is going to be forever buried in my heart and soul

This song is extremely dangerous, fucked up my neck listening to it
this song is forever stuck on repeat... even in my head , i love it!!!!
would you say it's a... familiar pattern
This business ain't for the faint of heart
I fell for the bullshit
Then I started falling apart
And by the end of the summer
I let 'em get the best of me
What a god damn bummer
What a waste of my energy
So I spent a long time down in the basement
Instead of rolling with the riff-raff
Cause I know better, I know better than that
Yeah, I spent a lifetime trying to make it
And when I finally faced the facts
I never felt so shitty before
I never felt so miserable
Following familiar patterns
I'm falling back into ruin
I'm getting serious douche chills
Just being in this room
I couldn't even see the humour
With the situation I was in
Knocking back jell-o shooters
Till I puked in the kitchen
Yeah I spent a long time down in the basement
Instead of rolling with the riff-raff
Cause I know better, I know better than that
I spent a lifetime trying to make it
And when I finally faced the facts
I never felt so shitty before
I never felt so miserable
They used to all talk down to me
And now they're biting their tongues
Used to say, "Don't quit your day job"
Well guess what, I never had one
I never felt so shitty before
I never felt so miserable
I spent a long time down in the basement
Instead of rolling with the riff-raff
Cause I am no better, I'm no better than that
Yeah, I spent a long time trying to make it
Well, I've finally faced the facts
I never felt so shitty before
I never felt so miserable
I love PUP's lyrics so much- i can relate to so many of their songs.
This band is so good. They make me feel so happy.
same here man
happiness grounded in recognising your misery. It's fantastic.
this song is pure gold
tafferski It is though... this whole album is amazing honestly
it's a damn Shame this band isnt more well known
Nate Weiner I agree, it's really sad
It's funny because I feel like they are really well known compared to when I first went to go see them. But yes, so many people don't know the joy of how good this band is.
Best kept secret in canada
Cheap shows and intimate venues. Sucks for the band but rocks for the fans
DO SUMMN BOUT IT.
this song is so beautiful
When he says the basement line the first time it sounds like a phone is vibrating. Gets me erry time
The opening of this song just sticks in my head so much, especially with that 🔥👌🏼 spicy bassline
Pup might be the revival of punk rock the way NOFX did in the 90's.
God that bass is so chunky and basically carries this album to land!
We need to do our job to proselyte this band. I need 10 more albums. Now.
Today while singing this song in the shower, I realized all of PUP's songs would make really good old-school country songs.
they originally started off as a soft band, but after each rehearsal they got louder according to one of their interviews
If you look up Topanga (PUP's old band name) - Oceans and find the full length demo you can hear a country song by them. It's "The Shield" and is the last song on the album.
The whole thing is great though, strongly suggest listening all the way through.

What music genre is this?
.
.
.
it's been a year, I think I get it
yo_ boi_al punk rock
Chris Garde pop punk arguably
Special K eh not really, I don't see them as pop-ish
they´re punk, they have a strong influence in the old school pop punk bands but they´re overall Alt rock/Punk
Pup punk...
Their best song ??
I'd say so, but I might go a step further and say it's one of the best HXC tracks of the past 20 years.
i really never did have a day job
