  • "Sunosaki Lighthouse" is a lighthouse located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. Since it was lit in 1919, it has been watching over the safety of Tokyo Bay at the westernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula. On a clear day, you can see the Miura Peninsula, Mt. Fuji, and Izu Oshima with the chalky white lighthouse as an accent. The beautiful sunset and romantic atmosphere have earned it the title of "Lovers' Sanctuary." In addition, rape blossoms and daisies bloom around the lighthouse, and it is also known as "Margaret Cape." It is also known as the filming location for the promotional video of the popular idol group "AKB48."
Sunosaki Shrine is the shrine where Minamoto no Yoritomo, who fled to Awa after losing the Battle of Ishibashiyama, prayed for victory in battle. It is worshipped as the guardian deity of safe childbirth, safe navigation, good catches, bountiful harvests, and good luck, and the main hall is designated as a tangible cultural property designated by Tateyama City. Also, because it is located overlooking the entrance to Tokyo Bay, it is said that up until the prewar period, many votive plaques dedicated by boatmen praying for safe voyages could be found at Susaki Shrine. A magnificent view awaits you as you climb the 150 steps behind the Zuishinmon Gate. Also, on days with good weather and clear skies, you can see Mt. Fuji beyond the torii gate on the beach.
