    This is so good!! I am about to embark on my first dip mani and thought I would look on TH-cam for some hints and tips. I have short nails AND some of them are flat!! Great video and I can't wait to see how this method goes with my nails. Also, after looking at your other prep videos, I think you have made me realise why my nails always lifted when done in a salon. I thought it was the way my nail grew that made it lift. I am now wondering if it was because there wasn't enough time to dry the nail after soaking in the water (for cuticle removal), plus building up the apex. You said that washing the hands is a no-no in the manicure, which they make you do. I also saw (was it in one of your videos???) that after washing you need to wait 60 mins before the mani to have the nail bed fully dry.
    Can't wait to have beautiful strong nails and to experiment with colours and techniques!!

    • @SipAndDip

      Welcome to our little nail community!! The beauty in DIY is we can experiment and see what works best for us 💪🏼 I always start with the least amount of product and most gentle approach first. Then introduce other things as needed. Especially with prep! For some people with really oily nail beds they have to rough their nails in order for it to adhere. Totally different for everyone 🥰 I choose to take the “dry” approach because our nail beds can hold moisture after hand washing. Not to mention soaps that have oils in them. I know it can be a little overwhelming at first but I promise you’ll find your groove with it! 💖 I’m here if you need me!

    Ummm . . . 🤯
    I haven't been doing dips very long, but I'm definitely going to try this pour over method! Right after I go out and get some stiff brushes! I've been using the softer make-up-like brushes that came with my dip kit and I feel that that is the reason my liquid brushes keep getting powder in them! I really think the stiffer brushes are going to be a game changer!! 🙌🏼

    This is by far a more comprehensible and complete tutorial than the rest out there.
    How long do you let your base+powder layers dry each time before brushing off? I'm finding that I'm creating lumps/bumps when I brush powder off the nails.
    Thank you!

      Thank you so much for the kind feedback 🫶🏻 So dusting off will vary for each brand because they each have different dry times. Generally I watch to see how it looks. So if it has a shiny look then I will dip back in and wait for the liquid to absorb into the powder. Here’s a vid I did recently to better explain what I’m saying 💕th-cam.com/video/yKBeC4Xw0lU/w-d-xo.html

    Great video as always ❤️👍 just a random question as you’re using dark dips. Do you ever find that either your base coat brush or activator brush gets staining from the darker colours? I’m assuming the dip isn’t dried enough before going in again? But I tap and it seems hard and not soft at all. They always clean up but it’s a little annoying…🤷‍♀️

    I’m about ready tonight dip today and will using this method. I’ve always disliked the typical apex method (the 5 step diagrams are all over Fb) as I thought it was overkill for my medium length nails. This makes more sense to me!
    I also ordered the Beetles Nail kit from Amazon but in the green hues. It includes two dark blues and I’ve been dying to find a good true navy color.
    Thanks again for your guidance!

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t wait to hear what you think on the kit!! I have been eyeing their pink rose vibes one 😬🙈 I’m on the hunt for my next amazon kit but I keep finding my way back to the Beetles listings 🤣🤣

    • @CarolJoyable
      @CarolJoyable 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chelsea!
      Hope you’re now recovered from your cold!
      I got the green/blue Beetles kit as I told you, and inky have used the dark blue so far. I love the powder! It is a TRUE NAVY! I’m so excited to find a true dark navy!
      Anyway I’ve not used the dips because I had a cheap amazon sold Tomicca Base/Top liquid which is sold with the activator liquid in a pair (like under $10.00!) . It’s actually really decent and has a super good shine! (If you’ve tested the Tomicca (the 2 bottle kit, no need for the 4 bottle kit), I encourage you to do so. I’m used to higher priced dips like Sparkle&Co. and OG (both great!).
      So, I can’t report what I think about the Beetles liquid but I must say for the price (my color theme was $19.00) it’ll be worth every Penny if only for getting the six dips and the nice cuticle pusher! You’re right in that the brush is pretty ineffective.
      I did try the apex and it worked just great!
      I love your videos and look forward to a day off to really binge watch and take a few notes.
      Thanks for your reply and take care of yourself!

    Do you recommend using one clear base dip over the entire natural nails? I read somewhere that natural nails can stain.

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I have been dipping for about 3+ years and I’ve only had my nails get slightly stained twice. One with an orange and one with a black. But still very rare! And it was on the underside of my nail from dipping into the jar. I only have peel base on my nails but haven’t experienced any extreme staining. Dark colors can sometimes stain around your cuticle area but unfortunately clear wouldn’t really prevent that. I think it’s just based on personal preference but I haven’t found that it’s necessary 🥰

    i’m curious how important the clear cost is on top or if there is a specific time to use one? thanks!

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jenna!! Great question! 💖
      So when I am using glitters/shimmers I always use clear to protect them. When filing and buffing it can be really easy to buff off the color on glitter which will turn the glitter silver.
      I used to do 3 dips of solid colors and no clear. But then I would randomly buff off the color with a dark shade, pastel, neon and so on. And it was sooo frustrating when I was already almost done with the manicure and “ruined” it while buffing. So that’s when I started to just use the better than safe than sorry mentality 😆
      Using clear is totally personal preference! I have seen others get away with never using it and being careful while buffing/filing. You can always practice on a swatch first too to see if the color is temperamental!
      Hope this helps and makes sense 🥰

  • @laurenthomas7515
    @laurenthomas7515 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm very new to dipping. Nb suggests a first coat of clear build powder first. I notice you don't. Is that just completely unnecessary? I'd love to only do coats of color

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally up to you! 🫶🏻 it will vary depending on how long your nails are and how much strength you need. I personally like to do at least 2 full layers of color and 1 layer of clear on top to protect the color when I file/buff ☺️

      Let’s see if we can get this figured out! 💖
      How many layers are you doing? Can you walk me through your dip process?

      @@SipAndDip I do three layers. I apply the base with the 3/4th method and then full application for dips 2 and 3. I just always noticed way more buildup at the tip of my nail

    So jealous of your shorties. and OMG you sound horrible. I hope you feel better soon. This is a nice tutorial for those with flatter nails. I wish mine were flatter. The brown is gorgeous and the lack did not stain either :) Nice tut Chelsea and pretty mani

      Girl I feel as bad as I sound 🤣 but I’m determined to beat this darn crud. I have been loading up on elderberry and emergen-c. My girls keep passing colds around to each other now that my youngest has started preschool.
      And I am so glad someone else can appreciate the not staining! 🤣🙌🏼 I feel like a crazy person when I’m like swooning over coverage and quality hahaha I love that you appreciate it too!
