Love seeing the original cast on stage like that. Lucky enough to see Follies on Broadway, first ever Bdway show. Begged to see Yvonne De Carlo, because I had been a fan starting with The Munsters...2024 and still an Yvonne fan❤
This is great, Alan. Not only a wonderful tribute to Alexis, it’s a rare look at the Los Angeles production of FOLLIES at the then new Shubert Theatre which was demolished in 2002.
@@henryfung6789 According to IMDB, this broadcast was Sun, Sep 24, 1972. According to IBDB, FOLLIES played L.A. from Jul 18, 1972 - Oct 01, 1972 but I thought it played longer.
Alexis was so talented but Warner Brothers didn't know what to do with her in the early days. She never got roles that really challenged her till she finally left Hollywood. And then she got FOLLIES................
All those awards, films and stage plays and musicals, and years, and she STILL hasn't got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What a tragedy in 2024!!! Hollywood certainly has it's head straight up it's you know where.
i wanted to see this show so desperately when it came to l.a….. mostly because i loved lily munster. but i was only 13 years old with no way to get there. my parents would never approve of me seeing such an adult show, so them driving me there was out of the question. i had to wait decades for the less than spectacular revival in l.a.
I'm from Penticton and had the thrill of seeing Alexis in "The Best Little Whorehouse". Elegant! I believe that when this was shown live, they said her father owned a grocery store on Main St., Penticton. I researched this to find nothing. They seem to have removed this mistake?
yvonne, “i’m still here!” great, snappy response.
🤣

Thank you, Alan. This is wonderful! I especially liked seeing Hal Prince and Florence Klotz.
Incredible clip! Thanks, Alan. Please... more "Follies" clips.

Ironic that it was demolished given the setting of Follies.
I so wish I had gone to more theater when I was younger! ❤ Now that I am pretty old and still worried about Covid it is rather late...
Wonderful to see the Shubert Theatre again 😢
Saw this production of Follies 3x in L.A. and then became an usher there a few years later. Great memories! Thanks.
What year was this? 1971?

@@scottbreitbart6460 Thank you. I missed those days.
Fascinating document, Alan, especially with all the ad and trail artefacts.
This is great!🙂
Alan - Thank you for another sensational video.

Thank you.
I remember her best on Dallas ca. 1985 as Clayton Farlow's crazy sister.
Alexis Smith was great as Lady Jessica Farlow Montford in Dallas :)

Loved Yvonne De Carlo too and Of course her Lily Munster, Herman and Grandpa ❤
The orchestra has rehearsed well for this "surprise."

Anyone know what year this aired?

That poor showgirl had to stand there all that time!
Rude of the a*sholes on stage...
ALEXIS SMITH UNE DÉESSE ÉTERNELLE.
