This is an awesome idea and I'm probably going to try it but knit fabrics fray like nothing else so you really need to make sure that all your edges are properly finished, even if it's just going along edges with a zig zag stitch. You can't just "cut off the excess" unless you want your garment to fall to pieces the first time you wash it

She made an epic bomber jacket without needing a pattern and she upcycled it out of a mans shirt so that is very creative in my opinion. Plus it’s not necessarily a mistake, she probably intended it to still look like a mans shirt. No need to be negative buddy
