Healthy he was great. He was a Tim Duncan type player. He did everything well. But didn't nothing great. All the sum of his parts was a great player thou. One year for the most part was healthy, and he led very average team in Portland to a title. People forget just how sound he was at everything, like Tim Duncan. Being like Tim Duncan is no knock either.
My brother and I were big 76er fans in 1976-77. As a matter of fact our dad took us to a game so we could see Julius Erving live; that was fun. Anyways our grandfather was a big Trail Blazers fan - we called them the “Jail Blazers” - and we watched a few games with him in the Finals that year. The 76ers went up 2-0 and we were giving it to the old man. Then he said, “Not so fast my friends!” as I think the Blazers won four straight. It sucked. But Bill Walton was obviously a great player and a better play-by-play guy and analyst. He was damned funny.
Jim Brown is probably the most apt comparison
This will be controversial, but OJ Simpson was that guy...until 1994.
Funny I was thinking the same.
I agree. I saw him play in college. I still say the greatest running back I saw in college
He definitely killed it
Shannon Sharpe! 3 championships, hall of famer, doing great in the media too, one of my favorite.
Of course they missed Jim Brown but regardless, I think this exercise showed us that there is no one in the NFL that compares to Walton

RIP Walton 😥

Throw it down, Big Guy! Throw it down!
Walton's charisma in his broadcasting career permeated the culture of his sport. For that reason, my comparison is the late Coach Madden.
RIP - Rest Inhaling Bud!!!!
John Madden and Merlin Olsen....
RIP Walton.
Madden!
R.I.P. Bill Walton
Shannon Sharpe
