@@ocassionaljunkieforyou I had the misfortune of being born years after the Heartbreakers split up, but i alwayd thought the live videos of LAMF doing the transition into pills was like a callback to this show.

I met Billy Rath when he was playing bass for Iggy in 1980. Lovely fella. Jim Kerr was on the guest list with his Simple Minds new band. Kerry slagged me off for my Motorhead patch. Well, the drama of the personalities aside, the bottom line is this is flipping great and amazing rock and roll. Lotsa people don't get what that means, and many do, but it's about the spirit of the thing. Of the song and the musicians and how it all came together on that particular night, at that particular place.
Come on let's be honest this is a fucking train wreck plain and simple. I love Johnny and Walter both super talented guys but the drugs absolutely destroyed Johnny by this point. Like Johnny Ramone said The Heartbreakers where are only competition in NY but I knew that wouldn't last long because they were all junkies. The Dolls could of been huge also it's almost like they sabotaged it
@@chuckydall9250that’s the point they were so in the moment till they weren’t they didn’t want the fame and fortune they wanted the party till downfall
@JeremyEntries The fuck they didn't lol every band wants to make it!! Do you think Johnny liked having to hustle people for his next shot of dope?? Do you think Walter enjoyed having a day job? Do you think Jerry was in 500 different bands because he enjoyed it?? They became a liability no label would risk signing them even though they had the potential to be huge you can't rely on a junkie to do anything on time. People same the nonsense about Kurt Cobain he didn't want the fame, etc, it's laughable. Kurt wanted to be able to be an active junkie and be in the biggest band in the world it's very hard to do both lol
Thankfully Walter cleaned up. He is the Heartbreakers in my opinion. All songs he wrote and sang on lamf are my faves... All by myself, get off the phone and one track mind are masterpieces
Totally agree! Walter and Jerry wrote those songs and Lure sings and plays most of the leads on those songs. The Waldos Rent Party cd is also awesome. Every time I seen them in the early '80's, Thunders was basically too wasted to play and Walter held up the fort. Rath on bass and Nolan on drums were also great. In this video I think that's Billy Rogers who was also solid
Johnny and Walter were the Heartbreakers to me, couldn’t have been done without either of them. Jerry was also the Heartbreakers, but Johnny and Walter had a nice contrast which made the group great. Jerry was the unspoken backbone to the group and once he was gone it wasn’t as good.
January 1983 Walter wasn't doing his Wall at gig yet. He was still a junky at this point. He started the financial gig after he hit rock bottom and moved back in with his parents. His dad urged him to clean up and got him and his brother the bank jobs in 1984.
@@keithglimmer4505 You're absolutely right for the chronology. I've had the idea that Walter got a diploma, or something like that, to work as a trader. And I've also heard Walter worked in the twin towers and the9/11, he was late coz he doesn't wake up like usual. Maybe the two stories are fake, don't know. But I'm sure Walter liked suits, and he loved R'n'R. He made me a better man with his great music, coz his music helped me to free my mind RIP Walter
