    El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
    Înălţate Adonai
    Neschimbat din veşnicii
    Neschimbat în veci rămâi.
    El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
    Preaiubite Adonai
    Te-adorăm în duh şi grai
    El-Shaddai.
    Strofa 1:
    Prin iubire ai jertfit
    Şi pe Isaac l-ai izbăvit
    Braţul tare ai ridicat
    Marea s-a făcut uscat.
    Ai salvat-o pe Agar
Căci Tu îl vezi pe cel fugar
Şi din Egipt pe robi ai slobozit.
    Refren:
    El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
    Înălţate Adonai
    Neschimbat din veşnicii
    Neschimbat în veci rămâi.
    El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
    Preaiubite Adonai
    Te-adorăm în duh şi grai
    El-Shaddai.
    Strofa 2:
    În Scripturi ai arătat
    Că Fiul Tău s-a întrupat
    Că la oameni ai trimis
    Pe Mesia cel promis.
    Dar puţini au înţeles
Că El e Mielul cel ales
    Şi-al Tău plan s-a împlinit
    Prin Isus cel răstignit.
    Refren:
    El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
    Înălţate Adonai
    Neschimbat din veşnicii
    Neschimbat în veci rămâi.
    El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
    Preaiubite Adonai
    Te-adorăm în duh şi grai
    El-Shadda

I used to sing this song until I became friends with a native Hebrew speaker. She refused to sing this as she said that there are no such words in the Hebrew language!

Does she study the Torah? They are ancient words but they do exists. If she read them in Hebrew they may not sound exactly the same translated to English but they would sound similar. El Shaddai is one of the 12 names of God mentioned in the Torah and it means "Lord God Almighty, The Only One Who Is All-Sufficient, My Supplier, He is the God who supplies everything and never lacks".

@@coreyrowe2052 Her father was a rabbi, so she was very familiar with the Torah. I must admit, the reaction she had to this song was such that it wasn't just verbal, she actually went to the CD player (yes one of those "old" things :-) ) & actually skipped it to another song. She must be, at least, in her late '60's/early '70's now, so, she was not a young person throwing a temper tantrum. However, one thing which crossed my mind, this was then such a popular Christian song, were the words incorrect, there would have been more than one person objecting. I only have seven years of Latin & a lot less Hebrew, et al & had never heard any argument about "El" (God/Lord in Ugaritic) but I too thought that there was some question about the original meaning of "shaddai". I must admit, since I heard all sides tell their version of Amy Grant & Vince Gill's adultery, I no longer can enjoy Amy sing....anything! I know God is a God of grace & restoration but she has such a wide platform & I know a few young believers who walked away from God because of the whole situation.

I am not an expert in Hebrew either and I won't pretend to be one. I know that some people in that generation may take offense because "Shaddai" can also mean "breast" or "breasts" if literally translated. My mother is 71 years old and I can understand why this would be offensive. But it is supposed to show how God is a provider, much like a mother provides milk to her newborn baby.
As for Amy Grant and her actions, I do not condone them at all! However, I am a sinner saved by God's grace and if He can forgive her, so can I. I believe this song and some of her other songs were inspired by God and can still be used to worship Him. It is a shame that some can lose faith based on the actions of humans. We are all human and we all sin, that does not mean God can't use us even when we stumble. It is our faith in God that should sustain our relationship with him, not that actions of fellow believers who are flawed just as we are.
Once again, I do not condone Amy's actions and I have several issues with how she has handled her career, but that is between her and God. I will choose to forgive her and still enjoy the works that God did through her. 🙂🙏🙏
I hope God is continually blessing you and I am enjoying learning more about God and Hebrew with you! 😊😊😊

I must admit, I was at a slight advantage as one of my late father's doctorates was in Lingual Etymology, his specialty were the so-called "dead languages" :-) ). I always believed that Jehovah-jireh , or Yaweh Yireh meant "Yahweh will provide". Christ became my Saviour 43 years ago, as a child & whilst I agree that we are ALL sinners saved by grace, I didn't want to spell this out earlier. It is not the fact of Amy & Vince committing adultery (bad enough!) but their continued lies during media interviews that really hurt my heart....& Amy's witness. They claim, most vociferously, that they were each "separated" before the affair began. Janis Gill, on the other hand weeps every time she is asked about when she became aware something was not well & it was while they were still married. She talks of walking through her home & noticed that Vince's briefcase had fallen over & papers had fallen out. As she was putting the "papers" back, she realised that they were letters & read the one on top. She said that it left nothing to the imagination & it crushed her heart to think that the man she'd was still married to, was having an affair with Amy (the letters were from her). I know God forgives even the vilest sinner. Some of my dearest brothers in Christ were murderers & one belonged to the group who set a bomb that I was caught in & severely injured, as a result. The difference is, they are honest about their sins & they don't lie about times they have backslidden (not into murder again but other sin). Their honesty has pointed literally hundreds to Christ &, because of their honesty, they can encourage their family in Christ to cling to the cross & "keep a clean slate". I suppose my heart aches for those who were deceived but I, like yourself, have no business judging anyone, I'm just not a fan any more. As for "blessings", the Lord saw fit to take two of our children & now, just entering middle age, I am in extreme pain & terminally ill - you are one of the few who knows (she says posting it online :-) ) "The Lord giveth & the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord" Job 1v 21". May the Lord bless you & yours, this has been a most interesting & enjoyable "chat".

@@CartePostale. Ribbons & Bows We choose those who lift us up and deny those who bring us torment. Amy's obvious grasp for greed and lusts of the flesh pain me...my only point was to say that this song, in my opinion, is anointed by God.
As for your losses and resolve to still follow Christ, I can only be humbled.😔😊 The emojis I just used are to express the sorrow I feel for you and your family here on Earth, but also the joy I feel knowing your eternal path!
I have only 1 child and I honestly don't know what I would do if I lost her. However, I am losing her mother day by day. I don't know when I'm going to wake up and she will be gone. My daughter is 11 years old and blissfully unaware of this.
I take all of this in stride and I am comforted in the fact that I have found a kindred spirit in you!!!
I will continue to pray for you and your family! This meeting was not a coincidence but an orchestration of God! Thank you for sharing with me!!!!
"Lord Jesus, I pray for my new friend. I pray for healing in her body and that her illness be healed! In James chapter 5 your word says 'the prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working' and we agree now that she is healed! Lord, you made us and you alone can heal us! We claim your healing that you promised us now. In the name of your Son Jesus Christ we pray. Amen"!
May The Lord of Hosts continue to richly bless you my friend! Love and Peace 'Shalom' be with you always. ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for being so candid and sharing with me!!!
