  • A quick video from the other side of the world! More videos from Asia up next. I've wanted to do this video for years now and finally got a chance. Should I do a whole National Parks series?
With nearly twice as many tourists as the Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the United States with over 11.3 million recreational visitors in 2016. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an American national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that straddles the ridgeline of the Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are a division of the larger Appalachian Mountain chain. The border between Tennessee and North Carolina runs northeast to southwest through the centerline of the park. The Appalachian Trail passes through the center of the park on its route from Maine to Georgia. The park was chartered by the United States Congress in 1934 and officially dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940.
The park encompasses 522,419 acres (816.28 sq mi; 211,415.47 ha; 2,114.15 km2), making it one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States. The main park entrances are located along U.S. Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Road) at the towns of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Cherokee, North Carolina. Great Smoky Mountains was the first national park whose land and other costs were paid for in part with federal funds; previous parks were funded wholly with state money or private funds.

318 million visitors. Thats how many people visited US National Parks in 2018! Would you like to see a driving series of them? I've wanted to visit and film the more popular ones in California, Utah Colorado and Arizona for a while now. Depending on how this does, I may do this soon. Please let me know what you think!

And thank you to everyone in the comments for your kind words about our beautiful home. Interesting. I have watched many such videos in the last 2 years or so and being born and raised in Germany and never having been to the USA, one impression strikes me again and again when I see those landscapes: It is how weirdly similar much of the USA is to parts of Europe and Germany in particular.
Scripted Hollywood media, movies like shows, basically always show certain cherry picked parts of the USA. There is LA, San Francisco and greater Catifornia, there is Las Vegas, Death Valley, the Sonora Desert, parts of Texas and New Mexico, mostly the parts bordering Mexico, there is the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon, Florida, the Everglades and then New York City at the East Coast and maybe parts of New England.
That is basically it and all of it is very different from Germany, making it feel very strange and alien to me as a German.
Only when watching such dash cam and road trip videos on TH-cam, I saw other parts of the USA that you don't normally see and as I said, again and again I'm shocked by how much many of it reminds me of Germany.
For example, I recently saw dash cam footage from Nashville and ignoring details like number plates and street signs, that city looks astonishingly much like a typical south-west German city like Cologne, Frankfurt, Mannheim or parts of Stuttgart.
Same here. The details are different of course, the cars on the road differ (Although less and less, because at the same time Americans started buying more small, European style cars, Germans started buying more pick up trucks, soccer mom vans and SUVs. So the difference isn't as big anymore as it would have been 20 years ago. Even stuff like "truck nuts" don't turn heads anymore on German roads, hehe.), but the landscape and the feel and layout of the small towns nestled into those hills, reminds me of parts of south Germany a lot.

    • @jutah

Great comment. I could talk for hours about this subject. Many people think they need to move somewhere to change their life for the better for example. Hollywood has had a huge influence on us. Maybe for the better or worse. I don't know. Either way (whether cities landscapes or people) we all have much more in common than we may think.

    • @ElCid48
      @ElCid48 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

That's why you are not to believe every thing that Hollywood shows. Reality is something else, and better.

    • @TrangleC
      @TrangleC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@jutah Thanks for the reply.
To be honest, I am one of those people who would love to move to the USA.
As I said, I'm German and am still living in Germany, but I have basically checked out mentally out of Germany many years ago. I don't watch German TV, I don't participate in German culture. I only watch American stuff and English language TH-cam videos for entertainment.
I pretty much emigrated to the USA mentally and only my physical body was left behind, hehehe.
There are 2 reasons for why I never tried do make the move. First of all, I have to take care of my demented father and I would have to take him with me, which is impossible and also, I'm generally not a fan of people running away from the problems in their home countries.
I think shithole countries would be better if people who don't like living in a shithole would stay and fight and work to make the place better, instead of running away and looking for a better life somewhere else. When all the dissatisfied people just flee, how are things ever going to get better in those countries?
Where would the world be if all the people who didn't like the French monarchy would just have emigrated, instead of revolting?
What if all the American colonists would just have moved somewhere else instead of fighting for their freedom against the British?
So despite the fact that emigrating to the USA for me would not really be a running away from Germany, but rather a running towards a land and a culture I personally like more, I would still feel a bit like a hypocrite and as if I'm part of the problem, if I would do it.
I do find pretty much everything about the USA better and more attractive than the place and the culture I grew up in.
Even the things people say are bad about the USA, sound pretty good to me.
For example, people always say Americans are shallow and smile a lot, but their smiles are fake and they don't really care about other people and everything is fake, distant and un-personal.
      To me that sounds good.
I like it superficial. I don't like it when people get in my business and when neighbors gossip over me and stare at me through their windows.
      I'm a loner.
I don't like having friends. Friends only mean trouble. Being roped into stuff you don't want to do, having to do favors, helping people move, being introduced to people you don't like, having to deal with other people's problems, hospital visits, having to be nice and cheerful when you don't feel like it, seeing people die and wither away from sickness and drug problems and shit like that.
I'm rather surrounded by polite strangers who don't care about me and don't expect me to care about them.
That is just one example, but most of the things people call bad about American culture, sound rather good to me.
If there would be something like being "Trans-National", I'd be it, hehehe.
I really feel like a American that was born in the wrong country and is forced to live in the wrong culture.
I even get angry when Google forces me to use the German version of their search engine and makes it a fuss to get the American version.

I used to travel to see the Smokies, now I live in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. All I have to do is look out by back door. :) But, there is still nothing like a drive through the Smokies. They have a very special feel all their own.

Jeśli ktoś lubi jeździć autem- a ja uwielbiam- i to jeszcze taką drogą z pięknymi widokami, to to jest super. Bardzo dziękuję za wycieczkę do Smoky Mountains Park, było wspaniale.

No wonder that so many people visit this piece of land. Quite large, by the way. And really beautifull. I do like your videos. Very well done. I do hope to watch your next magnificent films.

Aaaah.. so peaceful, scenic and relaxing to watch. I also use your videos to fall asleep. I put the phone down so I can't see the display and just 'listen' to the ambient background sounds while falling asleep 😴😊👍🙏

Well here you are in my neck of the woods! I found your channel after a visit out west, falling in love with the beauty of Utah and Arizona and then having intense wanderlust wanting to return. Thank you for reminding me how much beauty is out my backdoor! I'm enjoying your National Park series.
Unfortunately, I still have wanderlust since there is nothing on the east coast to compare with the night sky in the middle of nowhere out west! Check out a dark sky map and see how we've jacked things up with the big picture of nature. At least we still have places like the Smokies to escape the urban expansion!

I've been up that roadway through the Smokies plenty of times as a kid. In fact, every time we went through the tunnels, my dad would honk the horn. Good times

OMG! I enjoyed this video so much! So relaxing. The Fall colors are truly stunning. I'm going in a couple of weeks, mid-November, I can only hope to experience such a beautiful display.
Although that car you were behind starting at 1:01:41 drove me nuts riding their brakes!

It took me 16 days to drive from Shenandoah to Gatlinburg. The hikes were awesome. The colors in Grandfather Mountain area were red beyond believe. Lynn viaduct was shocking with colors. It’s a beautiful drive.

Driving through the mountains is an unexplainable feeling. Especially during the fall. God’s creative genius is so unmatched! The mountains are part the reason I fell in love and moved to PA
