Rog Ally. Better performance. Armory Crate is better than Legion Space as well.

Legion Go. Period. Same performance, and Armory Crate is not needed (nor is the lousy Legion Space, for that matter - just install Playnite).
That big, beautiful screen just makes everything look so great and legible, it's a whole different experience than a 7-incher. Trust me on that one. The Go is the best purchase I made recently, I love this thing so much.

I went to best buy amd they had them both on display, without a second thought I got the legion go. it feels more premium and the built quality is far better than the ally. Navigating windows whit ally was far worst without the touch pad.

I bought an Ally recently at a great discount, I set it up and tried 1 game on it. Less than 24 hours later a bios update popped up in armory crate (bios 337) aaand it killed the triggers, and my right joystick. I honestly really liked it for the 30 minutes I used it while it was operational, but a big company like Asus to be killing their own products with updates just cannot be tolerated IMO. At this point I am seriously considering the currently A LOT more expensive Legion Go....

Guys, thank you for the replies, but there is nothing to calibrate.During my research I only found 1 occasion where Asus provided any feedbackand it was that the latest mcu firmware fries the microcontroller for these components I listed in "rare" cases. We will see about the rare part soon, I guess...

I have a OLED Deck and. LeGo. Don't have an Ally, I'm not a fan of the look of the device, maybe the in person experience is different, but it looks like a cheap Chinese knock off product at a glance. Not to mention the SD card malfunctions kept me away and the inital issues at launch on top of that. That said i do know that Asus has been really good with updates for the Ally's software and i commend them for that and I'm glad people who have bought one have gotten a better experience. When the Ally X drops MAYBE I'll pick one up in the future just for the hetter software and battery life they're claiming.
I got a fairly good deal on an open box LeGo that was upgraded with a 2TB SSD. Its been a mixed bag for me if I'm completely honest. There are things i love about this device. It really feels like a Switch on steroids. The detachable controllers and FPS mode are a neat gimmick that feels like something Nintendo would do. The high resolution and refresh rate is fantastic in games that can take advantage of it. Being able to play windows games the Deck simply cannot under any circumstances can. The two usb-c ports are great to have. But legion space sucks, updates are slow and it feels like a lot of newer games under preform from what they should. Batrery life is better than the Ally, but not by much. Also the lack of VRR is pretty sad. Overall i like this device and really want to see it do well. But it feels like Lenovo isn't putting their all into thos like Asus is planning to do with the Ally.
For me the Steam Deck is king. I've had two, an LCD unit that i traded for an LE OLED model and thd Steam Deck has been a great device out of the box between both versions for me. Nearly everything I've tried running on the Deck has worked and even stuff that required workarounds was not that difficult to get working. The Deck might be the weaker device, but it's proven to be far more consistent.

Having more resolution is pointless imo as the z1 extreme works at maximal 1080p. Legion go should have resolution at 1080p anything more the chip just cant handle the stable 30fps to bump it to 60 using frame gen.

I've got a Steam Deck and a Legion, I bought the Legion after I sold my Ally, the only reason I sold the Ally was the size, it's just a little too small for me, after 30 mins it was uncomfortable and the longer I played the worse it got, if Asus make a new Ally that's slightly larger or has better ergonomics on the controller parts I'd jump straight back in, the single biggest thing I miss is the VRR on the Ally, the mouse control option with the detachable controller on the Legion is nice to have but if the choice is that or VRR I'd take the latter every time.

VRR and V-sync is not very useful with 120 hz screen let along 144hz. VRR would be more helpful with 60hz screens. I don't get the VRR hype.
I wish there was a test of 9 144 hz screens vs one 144hz VRR screens and I will to bet the vast majority couldn't tell which one is VRR.
120 hz is fast enough you can use the software to add a black screen between each frame running 60 fps. Your visual cortex will blend in the black screen with the frame where you won't see the black screen. ( it will lower the brightest of the screen) The exact same reason you don't need v-sync as a tear screen will blend in with the next non-torn screen.
This is the whole reason pc monitors jumped to 120 hz and 144 hz the begin with.

I have the Ally and love it, but can be difficult to play some of the games I like to to play due to screen size, however the Legion Go, is just too large IMO.

The Asus Rog Ally is an excellent machine in almost all aspects, but the micro SD slot problem is still a serious issue that has not been solved yet. I bought the Rog Ally in July last year, and I have already had to send the machine twice to the technical support due to flaws with the micro SD slot. Placing the SD slot near the ventilation system was a huge error from Asus with no solution. Many people have just given up on this issue and opted for chaging the SSD for a bigger one to extend the storage.

I'm a proponent of the Ally, however theres something we overlook about the LL-Go, and that's External GPU support. Either device can be docked and turned into a desktop, but ASUS's proprietary XG-Mobile port makes it very expensive to achieve better performance when docked compared to the LL-Go's USB-4 eGPU support.

You’re right I didn’t neglect to mention the external GPU support for both these devices and if I had my point would’ve sounded a lot similar to what you’re saying the fact that the ROG ally doesn’t support usb 4 is massive downside for people who want to use this as a desktop replacement when they’re at home and when they’re in the boat, use it as a mobile gaming device because of how expensive is proprietary XG mobile port is in a future revision of ally we could see it come with usb 4 or a occulink port would be also kind of cool

The deck is far from perfect. It has more refined software than the others, but the lack of APU graphical power for more demanding games and the tinkering in desktop mode to get games to run decently or run at all are a deal breaker for a good number of people.

Only time I really need to get technical is whenever I have to bypass certain titles that Linux has issues on running. However, other handhelds - despite their tremendous power. They feel more like laptops. The Ally design I think is pretty ugly, and the Legion Go doesn’t really seem like the ideal handheld for longevity. @@NoRestEffect and I could get the same or similar experience running Steam in Big Picture mode on my LeGo. And yes, you have to go into desktop mode for certain situations to get things working or for some other special task like getting non Steam games to work thus using it like a laptop or a dockable computer to an external monitor. People can rationalize and justify the SD's lack of power all they want, but in the end it doesn't run AAA games as good as other handhelds; smooth or not is irrelevant. That like playing a multiplatform game on the Nintendo Switch, then glossing over the fact that it pales in comparison to other platforms because of its lack of power. Why does the SD get a pass for that? It doesn't seems like the SD isn't the ideal handheld for longevity because it barely runs AAA games at decent speeds now if at all.

The battery life is significantly better. I play better on it honestly. I have every game straight from Steam OS. Even the handheld itself, physically - looks better in my opinion. People think they need an overpowered device to enjoy a game. But it’s really not necessary for a handheld. Legion’s joycons won’t last long. And how exactly is Windows awful in comparison to Linux according to gamers? According to Valve itself, what’s the Linux gamer market share again? Around 2% you say? Linux Is for people who want to act cool like they’re giving Microsoft the finger when in reality, they’re spending most of their time watching TH-cam tutorials and reading other forums because they’re totally lost on how to do anything. You are correct about not needing a super powerful device to enjoy anything, but it makes a difference on its longevity, which is something you argued about earlier. It makes a difference because it’s going perform better for a longer period of time. Another thing you are correct on is the battery life. The battery life on the steam deck is better, but even then it isn’t great. You’re still lugging around a charger or a power bank like everyone else using a handheld PC or a gaming laptop if you want anything more than a couple hours of gaming on demanding titles.
