- In July 1944, World War II's realities had shifted in favor of the Western Allies and the Soviets. Despite Nazi Germany's resistance, the collapse of the Third Reich was only a matter of time.
The Polish Home Army aimed to establish a foundation for an independent state, but this goal was threatened by the imminent Soviet takeover of Warsaw.
A decision was made to start what turned out to be the greatest uprising of World War II.
It was to be razed to the ground as punishment. But somehow, Warsaw had survived, despite the first years of its reconstruction not being easy.
Before starting the capital's rebuilding process, the scale of the damage inflicted had to be properly assessed. And it was hard to comprehend.
The landscapes in Warsaw just after the end of World War II were post-apocalyptic. The only thing left of the city was a desert of rubble.

During WW2 'Window Chaff' was dropped over East Prussia. With that range potential the 82 and 101 Airborne Divs could have been sent in to Warsaw. Would have changed all the political designs of 'Uncle
