Those bottom straps are compression straps, the 2 metal rectangle pieces are for connecting the backpack strappettes along with the top 2 now open buckles (which if you aren’t using you should really think about if you are really making the best life choices), and the water bottle holders are sized for holding nalgenes. This bag is not intended to be used as a glorified fanny pack. It requires the additional shoulder support to be in optimal form.
The supplied strap is not useless at all. Hook one side on the right connecter in the back, then cross it over the right shoulder and around your chest to the loop on the other (left) side.
Nice review of the Mountainsith 9L Pack, thinking upgrading to the 9L, I have been using the Mountainsmith 6L TOUR for over 25 years. Personally I really like the sling on these bags. Im a surveyor by trade and use my bag every day and also taken my Mountainsmith 6L to over a dozen countries, and is still in great shape. (Maybe a little dusty} Me and my wife are going to Austria this fall for three weeks and would be great to have just little bit more space.
Thanks for watching! Yeah I had to ditch the 6L capacity for my day hikes. Was just a little bit too small for most of the situations I need it for. Great to hear it's super durable 👍
That’s a nice lumbar pack. Several of the ski patrollers I work with purchased this lumbar pack this year as we had an NSP version available to us. They love it. I’m a pack girl myself but I do really like this. I have a lumbar pack that is similar from years ago that I never use. It just never could get used to. I think you will line this!
Thanks for watching Melissa! Already used the pack and am digging it so far. I prefer not to sweat on my back or have pressure on my shoulders for day hikes if I can avoid it. This one seems built to last!
I love my MountainSmith lumbar pack. I have a fused back that cannot carry much weight anymore. Instead of a heavy pack I go with a lumbar pack (with the shoulder straps to stop any movement or bouncing.) Other than Six Moons Designs vest backpacks I can only really use lumber packs. They are handy and carry what you really need. They are quite versatile pack. My wife steals mine during foraging season in Maine. Lol Great videos! Thanks
Awesome, thanks for the review I have been looking all over for this exact review. A long time Osprey guy it';s hard to change, but when it's the Mountainsmith Lumbar packs, they have been making them for like 40 yrs. I was curious to the great fit of the osprey Sava 6L to this Mountainsmith. Actually I have spent a lot $$ on Granite Gear & Dana , but I don't think the have a Lumbar pack.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was useful for you! I agree it's hard to find a decent lumbar pack. Not many options to choose from. Was super excited to find this one and have already taken it on some day hikes. Already liking it more than my old Talon 6 which I did another video on if you want to check out.
@@DaveOffGrid glad to hear the bag is solid! I'm gonna just go with the solid black color from amazon. The newer 2023 models aren't as appealing to me cuz they are missing that jacket holding panel in the front. Love your channel!

I HAVE ONE SINCE 2018 OS STILL GREAT!
That's fantastic! Thanks for watching!
Those extra loops are for the backpack straps. Sold separately
Great first look video! It’s a beast of a lumbar pack for sure. Interested to see how well it works for ha. Tis the season for new gear!
Thanks Ghost Mule! Already took it out on a hike and am diggin it so far

Thanks for watching! I've been loving the pack so far. Very well built and built to last! Lol when they start stealing your stuff you know it's good!

Man I’m glad I got the 9 instead of the bigger one. But this will me absolutely perfect
any chance you still have this pack possibly for sale? lol it's discontinued and I like this specific color.
Haha I'm still using it on my day hikes and love it! I have a smaller Osprey Talon 6 if you're interested. Thanks for watching!

I like it man. I've always considered having one for day hikes.
Thanks! Would recommend it for sure 🙌
Great review 🎉
Thanks for taking the time and effort invested on the video. It ooks like it's exactly the pack I was looking for. cheers 🎉
@@BigAl369 Thanks for watching! Appreciate the positive feedback and glad it helped in your search for a new pack! 😁
There is a new 2023 version of this pack. Has anyone compared them?
Thanks for watching! I don't see the new version on their site. Do you have a link?
That thing looks solid. I need to get a lumbar pack soon for more dayhikes. Do you think this one will be better than your Osprey?
Already is my friend. Built more solidly, better internal organization and much better load lifters. Idk whether to hike with it or travel thru time 😂
