By modern standards, the 323 may not seem to be a particularly impressive vehicle, however, in the context of the early 1970s when it was introduced, it stood as a fairly respectable vehicle. In comparison to other tracked APCs of the time - the M113 and YW 531A being some of the most common - the 323’s hydrojets brought superior speed and manoeuvrability in water, in comparison to the use of tracks movement only. In terms of firepower, the usage of two 14.5mm KPV machine guns in a fully rotatable armored turret made it far superior to the pintle-mounted 12.7 mm machine guns found in comparable vehicles, giving the 323 some decent capacities in terms of infantry support, and even light anti-armor capacities sufficient to knock out other APCs or armored cars.

North Korean vehicles look about like a late WWII European army.

Why do the norks like 14.5mm so much?

    • @someturkishguy8638

Powerful bullet, quite fast rate of fire, availability.
The Russians moved away from it because in the 1980s and 90s, NATO made the Stanag system, based on defending from 14.5mm. So, a 14.5mm wouldn't get through STANAG level 3. And neither would a 12.7mm. But, a 12.7mm is smaller and the ammunition takes up less space. There was no longer an advantage to using the 14.5, as anything that a 14.5mm could pen could also be penned by the 12.7, and anything that couldn't be penned by the 14.5 obviously couldn't be penned by the 12.7, but at least the 12.7 was more compact. However, North korea still deems the 14.5mm necessary because extra power doesn't hurt, and it's cheaper.

Would love to see N. Korean soldiers get surprised by a real military with real technology. If they didn't have so many conventional rockets etc. aimed at Soul, the temptation would be great

@@someturkishguy8638 Are you claiming N. Korea has anything within 50 years worth of technology to a F-35? Or is it that 60 year old jets are more reliable?
