    Legit just learned more about the fretboard in 8:27 than I have in the 12 years I’ve played. This just unlocked so much for me - as a player that has been stagnate in terms of skill for 8 years

    Nice idea. "trot that puppy out" - well, now you have the confidence, so, yes. Plus, I like the JUG on the green strat. :)

    Did anyone else notice this exercise spells CAGED CAGED CAGED CAGED ? Cool idea for a lick, eh?

    More Gold thank you. I'm enjoying going all the way to the end of the fretboard.

    You always teach so well.
    One of the few things that I did right in my early guitaring was learning the entire neck. Sadly I had no idea what I was doing. But now that I know theory, I'm real glad that I learned the whole fretboard 3 decades ago.

    Great lesson Chris. Linear playing certainly opens things up. I suppose an analogy would be like a high school chemistry lesson on Carbon which can exist in two states called allotropes. One is graphite which exists when the items are stacked in a particular way. If you rearrange the atomic stacking, you get diamonds !

    So glad I found your channel. Subbed and joined your Patreon as your teaching style and very approachable theory "deep dives " already reaping benefits. I was taught to use CAGED to not only learn the fretboard, but to connect pentatonic scales and also to find chord tone notes. I haven't been through your whole library 😁 but haven't seen you refer to CAGED much. I would be interested in what you thought about using CAGED as a fundamental framework like this ....thx again for taking the time to put this great learning option available

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! Welcome and thanks SO much for subbing and joining Patreon!
      For me "CAGED" is simply a marketing term for learning how to see triads and scales together. But as a holistic study it's very good. My only hesitation for referring to CAGED is that it sounds like something else, when in reality, its just learning triads and scales 😎...so I actually teach all this stuff already but I just don't call it something new I guess.

    So the 5 box patterns of the pentatonic scale are actually modes?
    The major scale has 7modes right? But the penta only can have 5,so what happened to the other 2 that the major has or which ones are dropped off ie mixolydian,locrian???

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This video explains why that is: th-cam.com/video/Y5bN2ddUIQI/w-d-xo.html

  • @TheMinorFallTheMajorLift
    @TheMinorFallTheMajorLift 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chris, when you say modes ( e.g., 6:42), is this a different usage of the term than is used to name Ionian, Lydian, etc., modes?

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sort of. The modes can be seen as “positions” of the major scale with the roots based on the E string. That’s what I’m referring to there.

    Why not just learn the rest of the patterns? It's easy, they all link together.

    • @curiousguitarist

      Of course. But when the vertical patterns begin to get stale a new point of view often inspires serious growth on the instrument.
