- Well Julius Caesar has arrived in Rome 2 and in this video I give you an intro. Enjoy!

Honestly Heir, I watch your videos for you slaughtering your enemies. I don't care what faction you play or which one you commit genocide toward, your videos are always entertaining.
Hey Heir i am really happy to see you play as Rome i am a major Roman fanboy and a big fan of youre commentary's cant imagine a better thing to watch then this:)
Well I figured it may be fun for me to finally use Rome
I was raging in front of my pc, because Heir didnt get the gaps in the wall. Then I remembered what game he was playing and relaxed instantly.. Impressiv AI, as usual.
lol indeed. Patch 8.1 is supposed to be here soon and brings supposed improvements to siege AI. I am hopeful it will improve.
Ye, heared it in your new vid, Heir. But seriously, you did not need to apologize for making fun of the AI, since I definetly disagree with your "comes soon enough". We are at Patch 8! I am not a hardcore CA basher, so I can live with it not beeing perfect on release, but hell.. We should have most AI glitches fixed by.. donno.. patch 4 ont he latest?
The strategies you use are good in quick battles but when you play campaign it's all about avoiding losses. If you don't have to charge out the gate, DON'T. Conserving units is what allows you to defend after conquests well.
siege ai hasn't been fixed yet, that comes in 8.1, which is in a few days, we're on patch 8 currently
Nice to see you playing as Rome for a change! Keep these coming heir!
Very nice, don't really care what video's you put out there, I will always keep watching them. Keep on doing what you're doing Heir.
Continue with all campaigns! Started watching your vids today, and i am absolutely loving them!
So much new Heir content, when I eventually get clear of my current work hours... I'm going to have a serious serious binge
It's nice to see you start up Caesar's campaigns in Gaul as well as giving us Patchy's wave of terror from Carthage and the Raging Peasants in Baktria.
Oh you were right about Caesar leading the 10th legion, it was called Legio X Equestris. The Tenth Mounted Legion.
Thanks, glad I remembered right. Roman history is interesting but certainly not what I am expert at.
Good Guy Heir, refuses to fuck over his favorite company or his fans
heir is so nice, he is just so polite to his vewiers i love it. Great job Heir
I love all the campaigns. I was watching another video and the guy was holding alt with the Ballista and was free targeting things with just a tip in case you wanted to try it. Keep up the great work
LOL flying dead cow hit the ladder in the second volley I swear you could hear the splat
According to wikipedia: Legio VII Claudia, Legio VIII Augusta, Legio IX Hispana, and Legio X Equestris were the four legions that Julius Caesar commanded in Gaul. Legion X was the legion he personally controlled. Heir of Carthage could you rename your legions to these names?
Thanks for the tips I will get them renamed in Episode 3 I think.
On a side note found out from these books that Pompei Magnus’ father was called Pompei Strabo or Pompei cross-eyes when translated. Rufus meant red haired ceasar meant good head of hair
Hey Heir, You should read the Punic wars by Adrian Goldsworthy if you haven't already.
Second this, its an amazing book!
I'm currently reading the Cæsar book he wrote.
Another great book is the book Carthage Must Be Destroyed by Richard Miles
Byron Peng I have a copy, but haven't read it yet
I will check it out
I love the way the Romans made auxiliaries out of the local troops because that gives them a really diverse army
I think the "Noriker" gave him some Cav. They were also the only one which were really friendly towards the romans because of trade with ferro noriccum, a metal.
No it's nice to see variation on this channel.
Keep all campaigns going heir, loving the videos although havent seen a baktria one in awhile :)
keep all the campaigns coming heir, all of them are awesome
I will do my best to keep them coming
it was crassus' son publius who lead the cavalry for Caesar. He then died (spoiler alert!) while fighting with his father in the east
3:03 the time when heir was wrong. It took 20 patches, but he was wrong
I think adding a Yakety Sax over the last siege battle would highlight the "improved AI" pretty well
The numbers beneath the tech tree is money. CA made a video on the new features of the DLC on their channel: First look at Total War: ROME II --Caesar in Gaul Gameplay- UK/ESRB
Omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae!
Of all those the belgians (Nervii) were the bravest!
Glad to hear Heir knows something about my country's history :)
HeirofCarthage Thanks!
I really liked the Bactria campaign, and it would be nice if you recorded more of it
I actually only subscribed to his channel because of the Bactria campaign, and am a little dissapointed at the fact that he didn't record any new ones yet..
Baktria, you mean?
FuturisticSalad Yes.
FuturisticSalad It's actually Bactria. Even if you were right, the mistake would be so minor that pointing it out would be utterly pointless. It's Bactria, and Macedon, not Baktria and Makedon, as far as the English language is concerned. The morons in CA that changing the word so as to make us pronounce the terms in a slightly more 'Greek' way would be more appropriate, and would pay tribute to history, but they were wrong. The only thing that they have accomplished is to confuse people, but what bothers me the most is that the 'k' makes it no more Greek than it was before. In fact it sounds awkward and slighly irritating. The same applies to the change from 'hop-lights' to 'hopletes', as it is pronounced throughout the game. While the latter is somewhat closer to the original Greek, there is no reason to adapt that stiff pronunciation. At least do it right. The term is Βακτριανή, as Alexander and his descendants called it.
*****
I like your argument. But I also see where CA is coming from; they're saying ok these guys are Hellenic so lets give them Hellenised names rather than Latinised ones. But in the long run, although English is good, I prefer this more historical sort of name to the Latinised versions.
In case you are interested, the original name of the land (before Alexander and before Persia) was Baxtar (Βᾱχτάρ is the correct pronunciation) and it means North(ern land) in Avestaian. This is the land that spread Zoroastrianism. For some strange reason, The meaning of the word baxtar changed from North to East in Old Persian (if I haven't gone completely nanners yet) and then now stands for West in modern Persian, being an archaic and rare word.
If I could (and I've tried) I would make a mod to show all the place names in their ancient alphabets and languages.
keepem all coming! I WANT MOARR!!
"Caesar" by Adrian Goldsworthy is a great book on the subject! :D
@ 28:47 the cows ricocheted off the ladders, lol!
I can't believe the Helvetii didn't appreciate my gift of aged beef ;)
I think we're fine if you skip the intro scene, the only thing I require from your videos, is to hear you sweet honey filled voice.
Keep the videos rolling Heir! :D
04:34
Heir is afraid of offending a computer algorithm.
[everyone say it with me]
Oooooooohhhh, heir.
Caesar didn't win at Alesia. The Gallic leader (name I forget) who was besieged there escaped and Caesar lost his supply line. It was a strategic draw and an effective loss for Caesar personally. It was when he was pursued in his retreat that he was able to capture the leader and capitulate Gaul retro-actively. Please criticize for inaccuracies.
Hey Heir I am not sure if you’re into historical fiction or not but I am reading an amazing series. It’s the Masters of Rome series by Colleen McCollough. It begins during the time of Marius and Sulla during the first Jugurthian Wars and continues on into the German Wars the social war s and keeps going all the way to Anthony and cleopatra. Timeline wise it begins in the time of Ceasars grandfather. There are 6 books in total and they are superbly researched with minor but not significant embellishments for the case of story. An amazing look into the politics Wars and life of romans if you’re interested. Be forewarned they are big books with dictionary/encyclopedia and maps. Lmk and keep up the good work. Looking forward to thrones of Britannia videos.
Your ignorance was great in this part and that is the fatal flaw of any commander lol
I believe that the wall not be repaired by a different architecture
and the time between turns were shorter
if heir thinks that pathfinding is bad when guys are routing out of the gate on empire my guys on top a building ran downstairs towards the enemy
Does anyone know why the seasons are all weird in this campaign? Summer in April, autumn in July, winter in October, and spring in January! It's as if CA doesn't know what time of year the seasons come.
From what I understand, patch 1.81 is coming out in the next few days and specifically addresses issues in seige AI.
Indeed, I forgot the siege changes were coming on it and not 8. I am excited to see if it helps.
Is it just me, or is Patrick Stewart the voice actor for Caesar? He definitely was!
Heir please use tab to find enemy's on the campaign map although please fix the playlist for this series.
Nice.
Often in patch 9 I find that the AI will place some ladders, then send ONLY the units carrying the ladders will climb it, then the rest of the army will burn a gate or two and if it happens to be a town that is a barbarian town, I can easily bottleneck them and slauughter them. One of my biggest battles included roughly two of my Arverni armies against 3 armies from I think the two factions north and east of Nemossos (CiG) and I managed to beat their smaller force at one gate, take a full army outside the city, then come in through the front gate, pinnning roughtly 2.5 armies inside the gatehouse and on the little slope. I killed around 3000 men and lossed about 900-1000. AND THEY HAD LADDERS ON THE FRIGGEN WALLS......
Marriage to Julia 'tech' option, I heard somewhere Julius named all of his daughters Julia. That's seriously on my historical person to meet list, to ask what it's like having the same name as your sisters.
I like Heir's campaigns because he doesn't play Rome, but I guess he wanted a change for himself this time
since the research symbols match the income symbol, I'm guessing it effects your next turns income.
Love your vids Heir but would wish you would focus on one campaign at a time. You can tell that you were rushing thru your Carthage campaign because you wanted to get into the Gaul campaign. Take your time Heir and utilize your agents more, build a powerful navy, more diplomacy, and go in depth with your research. We all love to see Patchy go on a murderous rampage but the other stuff is just as interesting.
The blue tree is a cost. I think it's supposed to represent the money Caesar sent back to Rome for support and to boost his image.
Indeed, and it is kind of a cool way to represent it.
Tech does cost money, but only the blue ones.
Aw I wanted to see HeirofCarthage play as the Guals
ceaser's famous legion was the 13th
I wish you had played a Barbarian faction, Lionheart and SurrealBeliefs are already doing one.
I wouldn't mind Rome if those guys are doing a barbarian faction
Legio X Equestris, I think that was Ceasar's legion. Might not have spelt it right.
i have read the Gallic wars and the book is great
Heir the sequani was the tribe that asked for rome's help when they were being attacked by the germanics (I learn latin)
if you want to see siege ai improvements, you have to opt in for patch 8.1 beta
Good call not showing the cutscene; the majority, if not nearly ALL of the flags are due to in game cutscenes and game music.
" a well commander in general." Who attends to be one xD
Where's the Bakria campaign been?
Wasn't it the thirteenth legion?
@Heir: can you post a complete title and author of the book you are mentioning?
Anyone else interested in reading, I can mention two books I read and were oki-ish:
Lost Battles: Reconstructing the Great Clashes of the Ancient World ~ Philip Sabin
Roman Warfare ~ Adrian Keith Goldsworthy
And Conn Iggulden series Emperor is and interested read about the life of Cesar. Most is fictional, but author said he tried to be historically accurate. Like the fact Heir mentions, Cesar had a thing going for the X Legion. And the author writes a story to why is that.
plz finish this Campaign first
and later when its done complete the others
Why are the unit sizes smaller?
was it not Legio XIII Gemina? Founded at 57 b.c
Legio XIII fought in the campaign but weren't one of the original legions used by Caesar. They were the Legio VII, Legio VIII, Legio IX Hispana, and Legio X. He took four legions into Gaul and returned with five. The XIII is most famous for being the single legion Caesar used to cross the Rubicon and ignite the Civil war.
Is there a way to get the Roman eagle back on the main menu without deactivating the DLC?
Does this mean no more backtrian campaign :(
Old vid but I believe it was the 13th legion of Cesars'.
can you focus on the carthage campaign first?
If you want to find out about Hannibal's conquest into Rome then listen to the history of Hannibal and the Punic wars it is amazing and really interesting and informative about the whole scope of things around Rome and carthage it is really in depth and a must have for any history buff
Heir of Carthage says Caesar was ambitious and Heir is an honorable man. You saw that Antony offered Caesar a kingly crown thrice and thrice he refused. Was this ambitious.
How do u get yours to get good graphics and run quicker?
Continue with all three campaigns!
It looks like that is what I will be doing.
can anybody can advise me that which one is great caesar in gaul or the new update bcoz i download tottal.war.rome.II-reloaded now and there is caesar in gaul reloaded is there too.so which one is better game?reply me
When did they add Baktria? I haven't been able to play Rome 2 since patch 3 because the game keeps crashing after the load up screen, but I do look forward to the time I actually can get the damn game to play.
are you running any mods? if you are they need to be updated or turned off, the crash on load up problem i thought has been solved for a while now
dan doxey Thank you for reminding me of that, I had completely forgotten of 1 single small mod that I added in pretty much slightly after release.
np, the game is actually very fun now, and there are a lot of mods out there that allow you to tune it more towards your liking now. give it a shot
The tech cost for the Politics side comes from your projected income for next turn. If you have 2200 income and it costs 2000 income, you will only make 200 next turn. if it costs 2000 income and you have 1800 income, it will cost you all your income plus 200 from your treasury.
Ah...Alesia...reminded me of that great song.. Eluveitie - Alesia / lyric Video - HD
i believe it was the 13th legion he liked alot
@SirNotWoBraveAlot of the Scared Easily Guild
Sure the game was terrible at launch, but it is because they ran out of time and SEGA set the release day too early.
Then they should not have lied SOOOO much. Lie after lie and stealing by asking money for shit that should be free in the first place. CA has become a corparation that has no respect for the fans that made them what the were!
Ragnar Lodbrok Dang just chill out for a moment. Look at the game now, I bought it a launch as many others and sure it was unplayable crap then, but it's now what I hoped it would be. It's finally optimized and the bugs are gone, and it's become the most immersive total war game to exist. The new options we have for agents, armies and diplomacy is amazing. Granted the AI is dumb as a rock, buts as a total war game you cant expect much.
Nvm it is the 10 but he had multiple legions under his command
10 more campaigns please xD
it the 13th legion that's he preferred
More Carthage please. I am invested and want to see how it ends!
I am curious to see how it ends too :)
Why did they go back to wrong pronunciations? I was really happy when I heard them say "Hastatii" properly (has-ta -tee -ee) and now they are back to Vocantii and Helvetii? (Wrong = ee-ai at the end of the word, right = ee-ee)
Yeah, that really confused me. They went back to the Rome 1 pronunciations. So the "ee-ee" pronunciations from the vanilla campaign are correct??
What's everyone else paying (or being asked to pay?) for Caesar? I just payed $15 in Australia
it was the same here with a whopping 10% off if u pre ordered it
=
do a arveni campaign on this
Is the name of the book just ''Galic Wars" or ?
The original copy is actual called: "Commentarii de Bello Gallico". It was written by julius ceaser. It is his firsthand account (and therefore slightly biased) of the gallic wars. I hope to read it one day :)
Thank you! Im geting it !
Did you figure out the time difference at each turn?
Each turn represents half of a month I believe, so 24 turns per year.
I think Rome should only be able to subdue or loot barbaric factions. It would take more than half a month to Romanize a town or a city, dont you think? I'd like to force enemy factions to become a client state and after 24 turns, turn it in to a Roman city. Client states could revolt against Julius with the lead of Vercingetorix as a cool historically accurate event :)
this game looks cool i wish i had the money for it
How do u get ur graphics so high and ur game to run so fast?
Does recruiting troops from client states work even without Caesar in Gaul?
yes, patch 8 adds it to the main game
Arrhidaios Pydnaean Have you gotten any good units from this mechanic? I never have but I have only subjugated egypt and some spanish tribe so far.
Please HoC... Stop apologizing for the way you are procouncing things...
its more annoying than any mispronunciation...
even the schollars disagree on how it's pronounced.
unless you lived back then and spoke the language, nobody really has a clue.
The triumvirate
the Nervii were already in the game
Heir I think you've got one more town on the very west of the map ;)
Indeed. I do some work with it in the next episode.
Ad six months later the siege AI is still total crap. :-(
awesome broe :D
omg octudron...
