Driving DTM 2021: New Team in the Hunt With the Heavyweights

- The Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse team continues to enjoy success in the 2021 DTM series after Kiwi Liam Lawson repeated Saturday's second place in Germany on Sunday driving the #30 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, while team-mate Alex Albon also impressed.
The key for both drivers in Saturday's first race around the 4.570km Lausitzring circuit was to 'keep calm' and - starting from fifth (Lawson) and seventh (Albon) on the grid - they stayed clear of the turmoil in the first half of the race before gaining ground after their pit stops.
Lawson was rewarded for his flawless performance with second place behind Swiss winner Philip Ellis, while Thai driver Albon gained two positions over the race and crossed the finish line in fifth.
Sunday began promisingly again with an impressive second in qualifying for Lawson while Albon was less than three-tenths of a second slower, but had to settle for 13th off the start line in the evenly-matched field.
Lawson led the race briefly, before eventually finishing runner-up behind German winner Maximilian Götz with Albon coming home in 11th, having again made up two places over the course of race two.
In the Drivers' standings, Lawson is second with 65 points and Albon fifth on 31 points while Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse is first in the Team standings with 96 points to its name after four races.

I thinks it’s really impressive of Alex to be driving in DTM and still fulfilling commitments to Red Bull F1. Commendable!
Getting beaten easily by Lawson though who’s also racing in F2 this year. He’s the future of Red Bull.
@@FormulaProg Lawson is p8 in F2 championship. Alex didnt make DTM his priority. U cant compare those 2, but I’d say Alex is better in F-series, Liam is better in DTM.
@@SirJohnsonP Alex has had his chance in F1 that’s the key difference.
Most F1 reserve/test drivers also compete in other series at the same time, it's not just Albon.
@@FormulaProg I wouldn’t say comfortably, the gap between them isn’t more then 2 tenths most times, today Alex best Liam in qually and last race he had a faster fastest race lap, the gap is next to nothing so we’ll see how the season unfolds

If you even make it to F1 once you're guaranteed to be in other high level series. F1 is literally the pinnacle of motorsport, the chance of being in it for even good drivers is very little 😭

Love the access and exposure we get with these videos, Lots of teams/drivers doing BTS content but nothing I've seen which covers so much (even the ugly) and educates at the same time too, as well as actually seeing in race broadcast footage!

Regardless if he is right or wrong ( in this situation because no one crashed or was hurt) it is good to see Liam is willing to dig his heels in and not be intimidated by other drivers confronting him. While Esteban Ocon won his first race, I will never forget him letting Max push him multiple times and putting his hands up in surrender. An athlete or competitor in any sport should never bend the knee to a fellow competitor.

Honestly, if I was a driver, I would spend most my time in trying to race in Indycar, IMSA, v8 supercars, and the analogous leagues in Europe. Some of those drivers are actually so skilled with an insane amount of experience. More racing less bs. Then again, I'm not a driver.
Imo theses 2 guys would hella fun to watch if their racing in F1 cars against each others. 100%

Hell of a drive by Liam. Defending like that while being the slowest car on the straights is quite a move. I guess he was compromising the Audi's corner exit onto the straights in a way which lessened his disadvantage down the straight.
He will be in f1 in the next 2 years, Yuki has to fear loosing his seat if he doesn’t get better.

Alex doesn’t seem super committed like Liam. Showing up the day of qualifying, not walking the track, seeming very discouraged and non chalant. Same way he seemed at Red Bull F1 🤷🏽♂️ and it shows in their results.
You realise the reason he showed up a day later and didn't get to walk the track was because the day before he was at silverstone driving an F1 car for Red Bull trying to get their evidence for the Max/Lewis incident right? I'm sure he's just as comitted he just had to waste a day doing the test the day before because he was told to...
