The calculation of revenue from Twitter Blue get's even worse when you factor in that a signifiant portion of users will sign up for twitter blue from an iPhone, which means they'll be using In App Purchases to get Twitter Blue. For those cases Apple would take a 30% cut. Meaning they would only get 5.60 USD per month per user who happens to have signed up via an iPhone.

You're wrong about Musk not having done anything yet. He has fired most of the moderation team. That obviously negatively impacts content moderation on Twitter which immediatly hurts advertisers. If you can't enforce your moderation on what is or isn't allowed, then you don't have moderation.

Also how many of the management have quit, including the new head of sales etc. Or how things are even worse than you mention in that Twitter had to take on enormous debt for Elon to buy and the billions it will cost to pay the interest on those. Also how the new check doesn't verify anything except that you paid which has generating tons of new scams via impersonations. Some of those having real impacts such as the Ily Lilly issue. The prevailing theory is he never actually intended to go through with the purchase, it was a angle he was working on… but Jack Dorcey (Twitters founder) outsmarted him.
I'll do a big post on the theory, but basically Elon was doing…
      Stock manipulation,
Using it as an excuse to sell a lot of Tesla stock without spooking the market,

there's another theory I've heard: advertisers were already thinking of pulling out before Musk (because we have a recession looming). With Musk coming to Twitter, advertisers now have an excuse to pull out without looking weak financially.

Any subscription that has the gall to still show you ads is worthless. Ads are the necessary evil of the internet and the most valuable offering of any subscription service is freedom from them.

  • @tbk2010

You can't build a free-speech platform financed by ads. Even based on subscriptions or donations can be tricky since at some point payment services will refuse to work with you. The only actual, absolute free speech platforms are on the dark net and there you may encounter more "free speech" than you bargained for.

As someone who doesn't use twitter, the sinking of that cesspit doesn't bother me one bit. For all of the good things that we've gotten from social media: hearing new voices suppressed by legacy media, new creative outlets for the marginalized, accountability for those who used to be protected by the establishment gatekeepers; we now have an increasingly bigger bad side: rising anxiety and depression, constantly lying to put up a front for people you don't even know, bandwagon jumping on before we even know the facts, doxxing, ect. I'm ready to see those big social media companies who make money off of selling out information that we give to them *for free* burn down.
