    Thanks for the review. I use them for 8 hours a day now that I work from home. What I love about them most is that due to the noise cancelling, I can listen to them on very low volume, 8 hours straight. Yes, they are on too low volume to hear the full spectrum but that’s not the goal when I work. With my M50X, I need to put the volume up by a lot to hear as much while still having background noise that distort the music. I also don’t want to listen to medium sound levels for 8+ straight because that is exhausting and not good for ears. Heck, I would even wear them for my full workday and don’t listen to music. The noise cancelling ‘locks me in’ and I can focus really well. There were times I noticed only after a while that I don’t listen to anything. So yeah - I find them the best headphone for work-from-home because I need to stop wearing other headphones after a while. I don’t get headaches and they are extremely comfortable for me personally. The Sony competitor feels cheap, bulky and not business-professional. My 2 cents :)

      @PassionforSound  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing Komunio, different volumes can alter the sound signature of some products so it's also possible that your lower listening level is improving their sound too - I'm not sure. You definitely make some very valid points about the value of active noise cancellation to prevent distraction. I personally didn't find the Sony alternative (version 3) to feel that much cheaper, but the main thing is you're happy with your setup. Thanks again for sharing and happy listening!

    I eventually found a review channel for audio products which does exactly that - REVIEW. Thanks mate cause all I've ever seen elsewhere were comments on comments about buttons, leather, cables, weight etc and nearly nothing describing the actual sound quality. And these headphones were a candidate for purchase between the Sony ones, and you made it clear! Thanks again

    I use the Bose when traveling and love the comfort and noise cancelation. Since I've started to use higher quality steaming Tidal music service, I've decided to dig out my wired Sennheiser 600hd's for home use as I can tell theres more sound that the Bose is not delivering. Any suggestions on affordable headphone amps?

    I find the resolution on these to be pretty bad for the price, but don't hear this boost in the highs you are talking about. The overall FR balance is pretty much on point if you ask me, just not very clean. Cheers!

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bubba, I can't recall what I said exactly in the video, but the issue for me was that the upper mid/lower treble is over-emphasised and creates that splashy, harsh tonality. That's also what kills the resolution I believe.
      I agree, that the overall frequency response isn't too bad so hopefully my new-dad brain hasn't overstated the treble issues as if they're a big spike. 🙂

    Hello there. I have the QC35ii and I want to connect them to my Audiotechnica LP120 Turntable. My stereo receiver does not have a headphone jack, so I thought about buying a headphone amp to connect the TT and the headphones to it. However, I read that is a bad idea because the headphone drivers could blow out. Is that true or will that only happen if using the volume knob to the max? Any advice?

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paulo, a headphone amp won't hurt the headphones because they are designed to accept a wired input. As with any headphone, turning the volume up to max may cause damage (as you said), but that's not unique to the Bose and can happen with any source and headphone combination - even a mobile phone.
      Does your turntable or receiver include a phono stage? You'll need the preamplification of the phono output to make sure you get sufficient volume. Some turntables may have this built in. Otherwise you might be able to take a line out from your stereo receiver.

    • @paulocalvo4049
      @paulocalvo4049 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot for replying man. Yes, the turntable already comes with an integrated phono preamp. So, if I understand correctly, I would just connect the TT and the headphones to the headphone amp. And I will use the TT with the Phono/Line output switched to Line which is the one that uses the built-in preamp of the TT, and that would be it. Correct?

    Saw your video among many other reviews and bought the QC35 II. Unfortunately the headphone reminded me about your review. The two emphases which peak around 2.5KHz and 6.5KHz are annoying.
    The problem is I couldn't find a well-rounded alternative in the price range around EUR 225 which I paid for it. Every alternative seems to have its own problem with the sound, including Sony 1000XM3 and XM4 with their recessed mids and somewhat bloated midbass. They are also more expensive where I live.
    Regarding the sensation of cabin pressure, I suppose it can vary from person to person, and people tend to get used to it as well.
    It's not a problem for me with the QC35 II, but I did experience it initially with my first ANC headphone, the Sony WH-CH700N.

    I heard these briefly years ago and was shocked how bad the sound quality was. I owned Momentum 2s at the time which I considered to be really good when using the cable and acceptable via bluetooth, compared to these Bose headphones Sennheisers sounded like they were on another level. Since then, I've also briefly listened to the popular Sony headphones and they were much better than Bose, especially in the bass department (although it was far from quality sound - quite boomy and obviously heavily coloured, but perhaps a good trade-off for fun listetning on the go for most people), but I still preferred the more engaging sound of my Momentum 2s. Have you heard the new Momentum 3s? I only had a minute with them at an airport when I was in a hurry to catch a flight, and they did actually sound like a significant improvement over the 2s (very fun-sounding, but still quality, engaging sound). Thanks for the great review!

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks MP. I definitely think it is hard to make a truly audiophile level product that is both noise cancelling (involves signal processing so messing with the source) and wireless (not truly lossless)

    Give it some time and EQ. These are an amazing all day comfort headphone especially when wired, if I need to get up and move around I just un plug it switches to BT and they service me while I'm making tea.
    I bought these in 2017 for the anc and comfort and I still use them. The anc my ears adjusted to but I don't actually use the anc anymore because I came to feel anc is a bit of a gimmick overall.
    When on eq and wire while turned on with anc off these blow their contemporaries out of water. It's why I still have them.

    Agree about the Bose, thought the Nuraphone was horrible - absolutely think the "customisation" to your ear canal was a scam. I don't love the Sony, but it's much better than the other two. Sometimes use the Sony with NC on but not actually playing music, and a pair of nice IEMs underneath on noisy public transport. Works a treat. You might be able to use the Bose in the same way to be fair.

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice idea using the IEM / NC combo! I don't think the nuraphone customisation is a scam (I've tried on multiple people to check reliability and differences) but whether their target sound is to people's looking is another question.

      I had them for a few weeks and sent them back. If you like them and they suit you then there is nothing more that you need to take into account, for we all have our own preferences, my experience with them was different. I was very excited to try these and thought the technology sounded incredibly interesting. My experience however...
      1. Sound quality - poor.
      Personalized profile? Yeah maybe, but the neutral profile is so flat and damped a simple filter from any EQ would make it sound like a dramatic improvement. You can't turn off the personalized mode because If that's what the neutral profile sounds like for the drivers from the box (as it says on the FAQ) then it just goes to show what a shockingly bad tuning they have on these drivers. It's also a bit weird that the profile differs from run to run even if created under the same conditions.
      The "immersive" mode is ridiculous. Just add distortion from the "bass drivers" to make it sound like a live performance? You can't add the subsonics that make your body vibrate of course, so it's a neat trick and does fool you for 3 minutes, but then it gets quickly tedious. Unfortunately you have to switch it on to some degree because the bass is a mess without it, and also unfortunately you have to keep adjusting it depending on the type of music you are listening to, sometimes song by song.
      Not only is this not audiophile territory, it's very far behind what you could expect from a decent set of wired headphones at a fraction of the price. A set of AKG K92 at literally 1/10th of the price of the Nura give a better quality from an audio perspective.
      I have now maybe 7 decent mid-range headphones and 5 IEMs at home and the nuraphones are so unpleasant by comparison it's not even funny, I expect that from a cheap set, but these aren't exactly in cheap territory.
      2. Noise cancellation - average
      Active cancellation about 2 generations behind. Not even close to the current WH-1000XM3 Sony. I had hoped that the nuraphones would replace my Sony headphones. No, unfortunately not by a million miles. The passive cancellation helps to bring them up to their average score.
      3. Comfort - very poor.
      Horrible if you wear spectacles, constantly catching on the ends of the arms and forcing you to adjust either your specs or the headphones. I wouldn't necessarily expect the highest quality memory foam, but the materials used are horribly uncomfortable for extended listening. The in-ear piece so essential for compensating for the mediocre active cancellation also gets uncomfortable after a while.
      I found sessions over an hour impossible.
      4. Ergonomics - very poor.
      4.1 No on/off switch which seems like a cool idea until you realize that there is actually no way to switch the damn things off and even when they are sitting on your desk they keep hijacking your phone's BT connection so a nightmare if you have your phone paired to other audio devices. You have to disconnect them from the phone settings to get them to stop.
      4.2 Custom function setup to the "buttons" seem like a reasonable idea, but because the headset is so uncomfortable you have to keep adjusting it, frequently (and unintentionally) triggering the buttons.
      4.3 Don't fold and fairly heavy, so not great as a travel set. Far behind the convenience of anything from Sony, Bose or Sennheiser.
      4.4 Custom charger cable - even Apple is getting on board with USB-C. What kind of nonsense is this?
      5. Bluetooth connection - very poor.
      This also seems far behind the current competition. Walking from the station to the office my Sony and Sennheiser headsets never drop or breaks up, the Nura are constantly crackling and dropping. 10 interruptions in a 5 minute walk. Almost unusable. Haven't experienced such a poor BT connection in 5(?) years.
      I had to switch my phone to prioritize the connection ahead of the quality for the Nura, and even then I get frequent dropouts when outdoors.
      6. Price - poor value at £350.
      Sony WH-H900NB - £170 (these are about the same as the nura in sound quality but better in everything else)
      Bose Quietcomfort 35 - £260 (these are a little worse than the nura in sound quality but better in everything else)
      Sennheiser Momentum Wireless - £160 (these are better than the nura)
      Sony WH-1000XM3 - £270 (these are much better than the nura)
      Bose 700 - £350 (haven't tried them yet)
      I tried them out on a musician friend of mine who uses an older generation of Sony WH-1000XM2, they should be better for him as he doesn't wear spectacles. I was curious about what he'd say, so I didn't tell him what I thought and his response was that the Nura were not nearly as good as his current set.
      I don't know where it all went wrong for Nura, and I really hope that they can bring out a future generation which addresses all this ^^. Fix the horrible audio, fix the comfort, fix the ergonomics and fix the BT.
      The ability to get them for £14 a month is a very commendable idea however and gave me a chance to try them out with little risk.
      I love headphones, and I really wanted to like these, unfortunately they are just not very good. Even if they were half the price the poor BT, comfort and ergonomics would not make me recommend them.

      Appreciate your detailed answer, I’m trying to write down my experience.
      For comparison, I’ve had the Bose QuiteComfort 35IIs, Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, Beats Solo Pros and 7 pair of Sony WH-1000XM3s (replaced within a few weeks due to poor built quality and squeaking-creaking hinges).
      1. Sound quality is amazing. Easily blow away the other ANC Bluetooth competitors. The difference is night and day. Clear tones in every frequencies and the immersion mode is awesome. (However you need to adjust them sometimes as certain songs require different level of immersion).
      2. Noise cancelling:
      Because the passive isolation is so good, these headphones don’t need so strong noise cancelling which would explain why you can’t hear a major difference between ANC on/off. However, overall I found them a lot more effective than my Bose QC35II and NC700 or the Sony XM3s.
      They seem to block out more noise than the others, including constant low frequencies like engine noise or talking, hoovering and any other things. To me, the noise cancelling is easily on par with the others but like I said, I found the Nuras even better.
      3. Comfort:
      This is a difficult one. Due to the unique design, it takes some getting used to. In the first few days I almost cried from the pain, my ears were so sore. I was very close to return them. But so glad I didn’t. Slowly-slowly learnt how to adjust the earcups and the headband length properly and find a comfortable fit. Took me about two weeks but used them every single day, longer and longer each time. Finally after 2 weeks I found myself wearing them for several hours, long sessions without any break but no discomfort either. Since then, they’ve become my daily driver and now I use them everywhere. Dog walking, commuting, chill out at home or in the garden, long walks and even for jogging. No problems and no comfort issues anymore. My ears remain cool even after long hours, unlike the others, especially the Sonys tight earcups, where there is no enough room inside for the ears, burning hot ears guaranteed with the XM3s after less than half an hour sessions.
      I realised that I don’t even need the others so most of them have been sold or gifted in the family.
      4. Ergonomics:
      I think the automatic on/off function is very cool and have never had any problems with it but never wear them around my neck tho. My neck is too thick for most headphones.
      The touch buttons could be very sensitive when you adjusting then earcups but other than that, no problems.
      The BT connection is stable, not worse than the others I had.
      The headphones are not foldable but never found an issue with it, where there is space for the Sony or Bose headphones in my bag, there is also enough room for the Nuraphones. Don’t really take up noticeable more space, especially with the soft travel pouch but also love the magnetic hard shell case, probably the best case I’ve ever seen.
      Not to mention the built quality, top notch. Quality materials, nothing creaks, very well built.
      Sorry, I got to go, I’ll finish this later. 👍

      @@attilab.2818 I am the last person to want to bring rain to your sunshine. :) If they work well for you then that's fantastic. It's great to have lots of quality options to choose from. I commute (well used to before Covid) on the London Underground system, and I suspect that different environments suit different headphones, and different ear shapes and head shapes and what kind of music we listen to and how we like it to sound. So if you prefer them then good for you and peace. :)

    Hi. Just subscibed to this channel and iam owner of bose qc 35 II. One question though which i think is very important for this review: On which device dis you connect them while you were testing? I ask because they support only two codecs SBC and AAC. While SBC is used for android devices and sound is bad i found connecting them to na iphone which uses AAC it is complete another story. I just love the sound. Using Tidal Hifi btw.

    Thanks, I just stumbled across your channel. I like this review. You brought out some good points. I have these Bose QC 35’s. They are very comfortable. But I’m not crazy about the sound. I’ve been thinking about getting something different. Supposedly Bose is considering adding an EQ in the app for this. Maybe that could improve them. BTW, I just subscribed to your channel. I look forward to seeing some more of your videos.

      Thanks MusicMan. I'm not sure that an EQ will fix the quality of the upper mids. The splashiness sounds like it comes from the signal processing or the driver design, not just raised levels of certain frequencies. It might be tamed slightly, but not removed.

    I did own these and the sony xm2 and I ended up selling the Bose because of the sound quality, although I couldn't have described it as well as you lol
    I think the only plus with Bose was that they were so light which made it a bit more comfortable,
    also had the Nuraphone and though they did sound great I found those pretty heavy and ended up selling them too and the in-ear part of the nuraphone wasn't the most comfortable

    I agree on this having mediocre sound, buuuuut, I just ordered my second pair. I’m still enjoying my music and the comfort is second to only my HD 650s!
    Sorry I haven’t tried the Air Pods Max yet but I returned the Momentum 3(superior sound) and just ordered a second pair.
    I don’t get the Sony love, found those fractionally better if at all. I honestly haven’t heard a Bluetooth headphone I love sound wise but I have 1 I love comfort wise. These.
    Horrible sounding is a bit hyperbolic but sure, I’ve heard much worse lol.

    • @PassionforSound

      Hi Mike, I really did find them horrible so it wasn't hyperbole in my case, but it's very possible that mine were faulty or damaged because I bought them second hand. What matters most is that you're enjoying yours. I agree that the Sonys aren't miles better and not as comfortable so your decision makes total sense.

    I got these as my first pair of anc cans. I couldn't believe how narrow, muffled, muddy and hollow they sound. My $20 HD 202's sound better for music imo. lol I mean basically you pay $200-300 extra for the bluetooth, anc and other features on these things. But they sound like total garbage. The anc earbuds have way better sound then these anc over ears. I'd recommend the galaxy buds pros or the senny mtw2's over these any day. The highly praised sony 1000xm3 sounds even worse. Its overly based and even more muddy and the eq doesn't help it. Its like I'm living in the fkn twilight zone.

      @PassionforSound  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried them, but the sennheiser momentum 3's get top ratings for sound quality especially on crinacle.com. Only ones that seem to be comparable to wired headphones. But they never go on sale and I hear they are pretty poor for build, comfort, anc and bluetooth quality lol.
