Since eavesdropping at a studio door in Bergen, Norway, Erlend Øye has become an international spokesman for sentimental lyricism. It’s hard to believe that at one point friends were suggesting he find another vocalist to supplement his efforts - luckily, he kept on trucking until he found the right niche.
Erlend came to prominence with acoustic duo Kings of Convenience, then made a sidechain via Tellé Records and Röyksopp to the universe of electronic dance music. He’s since proved, as we found out at the 2003 Red Bull Music Academy, that even if you feel your music falls between the categories, you should stick to your vision.

Around fifteen years ago I was dj`ing at an art function in a loft space, wintertime Norway, and out of nowhere came Erlend dropping by, He came and introduced himself, liked the music I was playing, abnd asked if he could look through my records, no problem, excited about what he found he proceeded to aske if he could do an impromptu dj set based off that, no problem, was great to get a break and just hear how he`d go about my selection, cant recall so much from the night, but that we hit it off well,.. This was very interesting interview!
