@@VINIDA Please pay homage to Afrobeats artists who inspire you and your producer or try to do a collab, coz that's a more respectful way. I wish nothing but the best for you but Afrobeats is this great musical movement from Africa that brings out the best of this continent. People not from this culture shouldn't just 'take' the culture from them and make profits. I understand your producer is a person of African decent from UK. In Uk there are a lot of first or second generation Afrobeats artists which is extraodinary, but probably need to showcase more. You see even Beyonce doesn't 'do' Afribeats. she collaborated with Witzkid from Nigeria. That would be a more appropriate way.
Another example would be Drake's One Dance which featured Wizkid. Drake is Jamaican-Canadian, even him didn't get a passcard. It's even considered predominantly West African music which people from other part of Africa considered problematic to use their culture. So, maybe your next project could find some Afrobeats musicians, who doesn't have to be big stars, to be featured in your song and have their names recognise and share loyalties.

@@haysencheng That's a very informative. Clarification: when I mentioned 'the UK producer of African decent', I meant HARIKAI. Just checked and verified that it was indeed produced by HARIKAI and Batundi, a musician from Democratic Republic of Congo. So for some levels, it's slightly less controversial than I initially thought. However I do believe the Afrobeats ifnluence needed more transparency than just putting the name of one of the producer on the sub-credit. For example, there's an another Vinida Weng song actuall putting the name of the producer on the title. Also, it's not just the production. It's also the melody part of the song which used predominantly elements of Afrobeats. People who don't know anything about Afrobeats would think that Fuzhou folk music sounds like that, or it just sounds 'exotic'. Just read some of the comments below and you know what I mean. She should use her platform well to acknowledge the influence. You need more sensitivity when dealing with the issue of cultural appropriation. My concerns still stands unless otherwise being better addressed. It's not the job of the musical fan to 'do research', by the way. It's your job as creators who need to do more. Thank you for your comments.
