In the fourth most populated state no less. 500 votes would be close even in a small state like NH but in Florida it was basically nothing. FL overtook NY around 2013 as the third most populated state. Even hate monger Pat Buchanan said that most of his votes in Palm Beach County were probably meant for Gore. My grandmother was an educated woman. She was a snow bird who voted in Palm Beach County. She turned 80 on 6/1/01. She voted by mail so no hanging chad thank goodness. Voting day is on tuesday. The day also isnt a national holiday so people dont get their days off of work to vote. Most americans live paycheck to paycheck and most of their bosses will refuse to give people time off to vote because they dont have to. Also the franchise is restricted through voting laws like some states dont have same day voter registration. For example in texas in order to vote you have to register to vote at least 1 month before election day. Yes some americans dont care about voting but many dont vote because they cant or states make it harder to vote
Fun fact, 3 of the 5 presidents who lost the popular vote but won the electoral college were related to a former president: John Quincy Adams, Benjamin Harrison, and George W. Bush.
I get what you mean, but technically speaking John Quincy Adams didn't win the electoral vote either. He lost both the EC and the PV to Andrew Jackson but the House of Representatives elected him after the EC was deadlocked.
There’s something almost sort of eerie about the fact that he said “the 4th out of 4 times in American history the president won the electoral vote but not the popular vote”, three weeks before only the 5th time in history that it happened...
Well in 2020 Joe Biden has 36 extra electoral votes, Trump would need to overturn three states to win and 27 electoral votes are under a 0.6% margin, not enough to win with recounts.

What's interesting about Florida that nobody talks about is the Cuban vote. With the Gonzales raid that PISSED a lot of Cubans off, it made them vote more for George W Bush. Considering the large amount of Cubans in FL and the small margin Gore lost by that's a very underrated aspect.
I think you should consider doing a series that looks at what happened between the elections. You touch on some things here and there, but in some cases there are significant events that might have more subtle impacts on why people might have voted the way they did.
Damn can't wait for your next video. It would be cool to do a reaction video to this one, or at least a reflection on how it's happened again (the popular v. electoral vote thing) and what you think the future of elections in the US holds.
I'm assuming the background music is the biggest song from the year or something like that because I was SUPER confused to hear the guitar riff from Kryptonite
New to the channel and liking what I'm seeing! Anyway, I'd like to suggest a SCOTUS-centric series. Either a history of the Supreme Court, or prominent Justices past and present, or important cases. The Supreme Court is an extremely important part of our government and with a very interesting history but I feel that it's perhaps one of the least understood by the average person. Anyway, no matter what you do next, you have a new subscriber!
I think the next series you should do is congressional elections in American history. You could cover keys races each election who the president and or the President-elect is and who became the speaker of the house and President and President Pro Tempore is.
How about a series on the Vice Presidents of the United States? They may be sometimes obscure, sometimes not, but there would be a bunch of interesting backstories.
I know it’s completely insignificant to the election, but I thought it would be interesting to mention that Donald Trump ran in this election under the reform party

These guys: “I can’t wait to be president!”

Happy 90th Ralph
For those who are watching this for the first time, it goes without saying that the information Matt shows here is correct to the time of upload, which was before the 2016 election
That feeling when Bush only won by 500 votes 😂
Bruhhhhhhh
That moment when people out of the loop think Bush won in a landslide but they were normal votes.
Jeb’s magical powers you mean.
However I could easily see her being confused if she had to deal with stupid chad.
Great video! I'll be supporting you soon, I think a good series would be a 50 video series, each where you compare every state of the US plus the Capital and Puerto Rico, in many different ways.
I do like the idea of a "Geography Now!" series but for the states.
George: Am I winning
Al gore: Am I winning
Florida: SHUT UP!!!!!!
If they kept up the re-counts. Wouldn’t been surprised if Gore won
One idea I'd love for a series is taking a high profile politician and making a biography examining their past and how they got to where they are and their future and so on.
What no one knew then was that we had actually elected Dick Cheney as president.
By that logic Kamala Harris is currently our President.
@@ranelgallardo7031 it has nothing to do with logic it is historical fact. Dick Cheney made all the decisions when George W Bush was president.
This is not going to be the case of the working relationship between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Especially because Joe Biden already has eight years experience as a vice president. The relationship will be as much the same as it was with Biden and Obama.
Know your history better.
@@shackdaddy7106 Yet Bush and his other people that worked for him said he didn’t make one damn decision so where is this “historical fact”?
@@ranelgallardo7031 Of course that’s what they said. The fact is that every major decision was made by Cheney. Bush 43 was a mouthpiece. Read some books about the bush presidency. As you may or may not recall it was Chaney’s company Halliburton that made major profits off of the Iraqi war.

You could do significant supreme Court cases?
I floated this idea, too. I've already done Marbury v. Madison and Plessy v. Ferguson with my Story Time series, though...so I was thinking about just continuing them with that series maybe?
Yes, their are so many Supreme Court that need to be known to the Earth!
You should make a series of all Wars that America has and had fought in.
You're definitely not the first to mention that one!
Mr. Beat's Social Studies Channel I honestly didn't know that but you should because I learn a lot about History and Politics since I'm very Interested it. I also look up Alternative History and Future Wiki. I even write scenarios about Future Politics and History Man.
Where can I find some of your work?

Hey! Love this series. My idea for you is doing a series about what happened to the losers of each election. I say this because "Edmund Muskie" is a throw away gag for me and I wonder whatever happened to the losers. I imagine they become super villains. Or you could do a series of why the Security of State has been important in American history....or just tell me more about Edmund Muskie.
Well shoot, Muskie later became Secretary of State, so he didn't turn out so bad for him!
I'm always so shocked by the very low turnout in American elections. 50%... Do citizens just don't care?
Voting day is on tuesday. The day also isnt a national holiday so people dont get their days off of work to vote. Most americans live paycheck to paycheck and most of their bosses will refuse to give people time off to vote because they dont have to. Also the franchise is restricted through voting laws like some states dont have same day voter registration. For example in texas in order to vote you have to register to vote at least 1 month before election day. Yes some americans dont care about voting but many dont vote because they cant or states make it harder to vote
Not anymore, Andrew Yang crowd surfed on the campaign trail.
This was made in 2015

The 1884 and 2020 election is just like this
So true.
Well in 2020 Joe Biden has 36 extra electoral votes, Trump would need to overturn three states to win and 27 electoral votes are under a 0.6% margin, not enough to win with recounts.
Well sir, you and I must be roughly the same age since my first election was also this one.
I love the videos, keep 'em coming!
Imagine if two faithless electors in Florida or other Republican state voted for Gore or Nader.
The house will vote for President and Republicans have majority.
You’re killing me with the music in these. Holy shit, I miss my childhood.
"lieberman, the first jewish candidate in a presidential election"
do you mean he WAS a jew or his ancestry? because if it was the latter that'd be goldwater
while i remember 1992 and 1996, this was the first one I was old enough to really care about. I appreciated that both Bush and Gore appeared on SNL's Presidential Bash program to make fun of themselves by emulating their SNL actors' portrayals of them
Its so weird to think that President Trump ran for president in 2000 in the reform party

2000 is my birth year. That was the year I was born. Back when the presidential election happened on November 7. I would have been ten months old. I was born on January 19. I was born in the month of January. I was born prior to the presidential election on November 7.
What's interesting about Florida that nobody talks about is the Cuban vote. With the Gonzales raid that PISSED a lot of Cubans off, it made them vote more for George W Bush. Considering the large amount of Cubans in FL and the small margin Gore lost by that's a very underrated aspect.
1980, 1992, 2000. Most important elections in modern history.
Historically, nominating a VP to follow a two term President doesn’t work out well.
I think you should consider doing a series that looks at what happened between the elections. You touch on some things here and there, but in some cases there are significant events that might have more subtle impacts on why people might have voted the way they did.
Yeah, I have tried to do that with my Story Time series, and I plan on picking up that series again next year as well.
Damn can't wait for your next video. It would be cool to do a reaction video to this one, or at least a reflection on how it's happened again (the popular v. electoral vote thing) and what you think the future of elections in the US holds.
+abcdef53015 Look for a reaction video soon and the 2016 election video at the beginning of January
I'm assuming the background music is the biggest song from the year or something like that because I was SUPER confused to hear the guitar riff from Kryptonite
It is.
Welcome and thank you so much for the feedback! I think you are going to be pretty happy next year with the choice of my next series. :)
I think the next series you should do is congressional elections in American history. You could cover keys races each election who the president and or the President-elect is and who became the speaker of the house and President and President Pro Tempore is.
RIP Joe Lieberman, the first Jewish Vice-Presidential nominee in American history.
Ik this video was released 6 years ago but I loved this series and I wish you could do the British elections because this kind of series is unique.
@GeoffreyTButler9096 what? I mean he might not check my comment after 6 years of making this video

Great work. This deserves more views. My son asked me about the 2000 election and I found this.
How about a series on the Vice Presidents of the United States? They may be sometimes obscure, sometimes not, but there would be a bunch of interesting backstories.
