I just wanna say how much I love the intros they’ve been adding to a lot of their live songs lately. Unforgiven, Ktulu, Blackened, etc. They’re awesome and set the mood for each song.
It’s stupid how good they still are. There is absolutely no lagging of intensity or vocal power in that tune after 35 years! 35 YEARS man 🤘🤘

The ommissions to this song since Seattle 1989...
1. James's voice delay (Contradiction etc...)
2. Lars's correct snare fill, directly before "Contradiction" etc.
3. The guitar solo that ends with a whammy bend.
4. The reprise of the original riff after the solo, with the inexplicable drum time signature change of about 0.0005% out of sync with guitars.
5. Sweat, speed, headbanging, growling, anger.
I'll let the last one slide, as they're not in their twenties anymore.
It's more that they don't hardly ever play blackened rather than age

My first arena concert was Metallica 1989 And Justice For All tour. The Cult opened for them. Capital Center, Landover, Maryland. I was 16. I saw them 3 more times in the 90's. They've never let an audience down. In 1998, I was living in SF and went to see Corrosion of Conformity and Clutch play a small club called Slims. James and Lars were standing a few feet away from me in the crowd of maybe 100. We were just all fans drinking beer together and enjoying some good music that night. I'll always love Metallica.
First time was also same tour. Red Rocks, Denver Colorado. Junior Year High School.
That tour was amazing. I saw it at Pine Knob in Michigan, I was a senior in high school. Blew me away.
Saw that tour also in 1989 at the Calgary Saddledome. Was my first big show, and still stands out as the best I've ever seen. And...I still have the tour t-shirt! My 21 year old daughter has it now though, so it's become a family heirloom.

His technique has changed, that doesn't mean he tries to sing. In the late 80s he definitely TRIED, but never actually sang, he just liked to scream a lot while singing. Now he has a beautiful clean voice with some gritty sometimes, he improved a lot
I used to listen to the live in seattle version while cycling and I would used explode the moment James pulls that riff after the intro

This was my first metallica concert I attended and I screamed all vocals and banged my head and the security guards looked at me like I was on heroin

Keep in mind, this was in Finland. They are quite a bit different than Americans.

It's weird since they regularly play songs like Ride the Lightning and One that have an arguably harder solo, but they skip this one. I think it has to do with the fast change of pace, a lot of mistakes must happen in the rehersals.

Pity they do not play that instrumental part anymore before the last chorus. That is the most genius part of the whole song when Lars goes off beat and then comes back in sync with that 1 little extra note. They rip the best part out of it. 😢

When i went to Metallica concert first in my life in 1991 in Istanbul, the sound system was OMG. I was feeing Lars's hits in my stomach and I could not hear anything for 3 days after the concert. Please do not care about our ears, We want it loud again!!
Lars sounds amazing on this. At his age to still do this is simply awesome!!! Blast beats at this tempo and insanity are not easy to play at all. And the way he breaks up his bass drum patterns under his hands has always been inspiring because no else plays like that. One thing he can lay claim to, when you hear the drums, you know it’s him. Not many can say that. Way to go Lars!
