  • Hi guys...I wanted to make sandwiches today and I realized I didn't have any tomatoes, so I thought to make a video of this first. Hope you'll find it useful for your charms or miniature food displays.

    Materials used in this video:
    Premo Polymer clay : bit.ly/1TMAqg5
    (In order of appearance): Yellow, Orange, Mix of red and yellow (not mixed all the way through but nearly), Soft pink/red, darker red (always trying to keep it quite warm by adding yellow/orange). They were all mixed with transluscent clay. Leaf green for the leaves (opaque).

    Andrea Robles It will stay like that, it will not change shape at all. I usually bake my clay with regular paper underneath so the baking tray doesn't leave a shiny mark under the clay :) Otherwise you could use a surface that is slightly rounded like the cane so the cane if you are worried the cane will flatten a bit. :)

    This is so good! I love *love* miniatures!
    I always wonder how you get rid of finger prints off of such small stuff like this..?

    • @MaiveFerrando
      @MaiveFerrando  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      AmberAndGolden Hahaha thank you Amber! You could use latex gloves to avoid getting finger prints on your clay. Also, pure acetone can get rid of marks and stains as it melts the clay (this is once baked) but you don't want to use acetone on a piece that has been shaded before baking though, as it will remove the effect. I have a video on "how to keep your clay clean" that might help ;)

      Thank you, I had sliced a tomato and tried to get the colours as similar as possible...I don't think there's wrong or right, I saw these colours and these colours I used. I didn't use green for the seeds like a lot of people do, I never saw green seeds in a tomato before, but I could be colour blind! haha X

    how do you have the patience to make any sort of cane anyway? it seems to be difficult and time consuming task. does the cane stay the same after storage? if not then it seems like a waste to make so much of the cane, but it probably stays till you use all of the cane up. you don't seem like the type who would waste clay like that. love your vids BTW. I think your really talented! :)

    • @MaiveFerrando
      @MaiveFerrando  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Danielle! I don't love making canes, but they are useful. It depends on how they are stored and at what temperature, but generally they should stay the same. They will feel a bit stiffer, because they haven't been handled, but that makes them easier to slice. I don't like wasting anything really...from food to clay I hate to waste. I mix all the remaining trimmings into new colours and use them in something else...

    Hello Maive! LOVE your tutorial and your channel! I was wondering what do you do afterwards? I mean.. you cut all the slices, texture them and bake them or leave the cane as it is..? My canes get hard and they can't be textured properly after days :(

    • @MaiveFerrando
      @MaiveFerrando  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. You can either bake the canes if you want to slice them for nail art for example, or store them raw and slice them and texture them when you need them. Sometimes they can get a bit stiff, in that case I take care when slicing the cane and gently press my finger on the slice to make it warm and pliable, so when you texture it, it doesn't brake. It's up to you if you want to bake them after texturing and have them ready for when you make a pizza for ex, or texture them when you are actually making the pizza, it doesn't matter. Hope this wasn't too confusing! ^^

      Leilani Querubin It's not hard if you practice and are careful with every step. I think it took me a couple of hours, including conditioning and mixing colours which takes longer than everything else.
