- We caught up with the Danaher Death Squad in NYC ahead of Kasai Pro 2. Gordon Ryan was training in the gi, Nicky Ryan training heel hooks for his match against Geo Martinez on April 14th and John Danaher was dropping wisdom as usual.

Danaher could be a jiu jitsu mob boss
he is xD , he is the boss of the DDS
I’m level one crook
What do you mean “could be”
Thee Gordon Ryan admitting his weaknesses in Gi ... Nothing but respect for that man
@4:56 that was clean and smooth
That was really cool seeing JD give instruction. I don't think I've seen that before in any other videos.
The rash guard king throwing knowledge as usual. JD is awesome
Dope that Craig Jones is there, in the old days people would hide their techniques and not be as open
Nowadays people understand that accelerating your growth is more important than trying to hide some little piece of secret info. I think Craig's one of the best examples of that mentality and it's great.
I fucking thought that was him but, I'm still thinking that people wouldn't mix training camps (such an old way of thinking)
Anguel Roumenov Bogoev yeah, and you’ve got to give to get...
Brandon that is his camp now. He is on the DDS team now.
So cool craig jones is there as a student... shows respect and a total lack of ego...
If the danaher death squad was the avengers then Nicky Ryan would be spider man
wtf, that makes weirdly good sense haha
Who’s iron man tho
@@DevPatel-if2jj garry tonon
Hullk?
@@champlife6353 Nick Rodriguez would be the hulk
Danaher looks like the Lex Luthor of BJJ.
4:57 most perfect throw I've ever seen
You must not do alot of judo
He a Judo and BJJ black belt... Gary St. Leger. For the record, thats not even one of his 3 best throws.
I love seeing craig jones there! That academy is fucking awesome!
Seriously! I thought they were cool dudes, this reinforces that notion for sure.
5:11 I thought Danaher was speaking alien for a second
Under rated
5:22 Very good advice. BJJ is very frustrating for any beginner because you basically get shit on every single class. Not like most sports.
Right. What sports might those be?
Craig Jones! the man. I have a lot of respect for him.
The famous uke placido is there at 2:39 :D:D
"for every 9 bad experiences, you have in training if there's a 10th positive one, that'll keep you alive into the next day..."
That tai otoshi at 4.57 is a thing of beauty
Gordy already has fundamentals so if you continue to learn grips in Gi then you'll become a good as any high level black belt. Hope to see you in the Gi comps just the excitement of watching you.
For every 9th experience there is a 10th good one. Like golf. With chokes.
Seeing Danaher on the mat drilling a technique is like a big foot siting. Very rare. This is awesome.
Gordon's side mount defense from 5:01 to 5:09 is real nice
What a fantastic trainer
Hearing Gordon Ryan express his frustration with gi is refreshing because I feel the exact same way about no gi.
it will be cool to see Danaher get his red belt
Excellent production
Is that Craig Jones?
Edmund Dichoso yes
At the source! Cool to see them mingling.
Yup thats me, oss
It says so much about those guys that they let Craig into their school. Is there a world class champion in their gym in the same weight class as Craig. I could see that being much cooler then with the other athletes.
But honestly, i think Danaher has always be open with his knowledge. Maybe right before a fight in camp he will be different, like when he helped GSP, and only talked about strategy afterwards. But afterward,s he was always open about what strategy he had. So respect a guy who is confident enough to share his knowledge.
Gordon ryan the number 1 modern day grappling champion... still put on his gi and follow Danaher's class.... what a humble beast! And people still hates him😩😩
Why do people hate Gordon Ryan?
For being the best grappler in the world?
Obviously he's on steroids but so are rest of the bunch.
JD's a Jiu Jitsu wizard
Such a great video, thanks!
Danaher 🙌🏽🙏🏽 amazing instructor
Please Mr Danaher, make a tutorial on wrestling and judo throws
Go learn wrestling from a wrestler and judo from a Judoka
He is finally doing it! It's called Feet To Floor, and will be the next instructional he releases!
Holy fuck...next level shit in this video, Danaher is a jiu jitsu genius
I thought the thumbnail was Danaher vs Danaher in some kind of weird alternate universe battle.
Seeing Craig Jones hanging around down there is terrifying. Or terrifyingly awesome. Or both.
2:42 It's Placido!!
So I’m new to Brazilian jiu-Jitsu. Was Danaher a student of Renzo from day one? Was curious what his background was.
5:25 these words by Danaher....chapter 1 in Jiu-Jitsu
5:29 is that craig jones?
You could spend hours and hours drilling just that leg entry to inside sankaku. Sick move
Anyone know of any footage of the reverse x to saddle being used in a comp?
That takedown at 4.59 though...
Great video guys :)
Great video guys. Do a 10th planet one next pls
What a awesome class of Jiu Jitsu legends. What would i love to do some training with these people
has anyone ever seen danaher roll? hes got a reputation but never seen him in action before
how much coast BJJ in USA?
Craig Jones just chilling in the background
great vid
4:55 ... takedown, oh shit lol
Holy shit, Peter Parker’s doing BJJ
Danaher is a jiu jitsu genius.
Where did John Danaher learn judo ?
Did I see Craig Jones in some of the footage?
he said 'elbow deep'...
at one point in my life I want to train a certain time with John Danaher so impressed by his way of teaching
Maybe that is one of the jiu-jitsu gyn's in the world
You can see the guys thinking huh
Everybody's talking about Craig, Gordon and Nicky, nobody wants to talk about Johnny Sins helping them drill??
John " The Wizard " Danaher
Anyone else see that rubber guard
Nicky Ryan could literally be a brown belt right now
Does John Danaher compete?
Aidan Thorne Danaher has really terrible hip and knee problems. They’ve been plaguing him since he was a young adult. I believe he got hit by a car or something, and New Zealand didn’t have the proper surgical capabilities (in the 90s) to properly fix him up. So overtime things have added up and he’s basically constantly in pain. That being said- I’m surprised to see him moving and showing techniques so much. He speaks about it in more detail on the episode of the joe rogan podcast he’s on.
a yo Was a rugby injury to his knee and a bad surgery that causes the knee problems and then led to hip problems later in life. Was late 80s as well not 90s.
well there ya go. lol. thanks for clarifying.
i'm pretty sure he was supposed to have knee surgery. Maybe he did, and that's why he's finally able to move a bit more.
Hey look it's Craig Jones.
Lol Everytime I search up Nicky Ryans age it always says he's 77.
Is that saddle position legal?
It’s a reap in ibjjf as you’re not allowed to bring your foot across the hip. However, I think most over tournaments allowing reaping nowadays.
@@matthewelsom9356 only if you atack or block the entangled leg (keep in mind that opponent standing on the foot counts as blocked leg). As long as you only grab the other, free leg, everything is legal. Will you still get DQ'd because nobody really understands this reaping bullshit rule? Quite possible.
Danaher MUST say the athletes full name. That is his super hero weakness.
John Danaher aka "New Zealand John" is the greatest mind/instructor in all of BJJ/Submission Grappling. He is the Wayne Gretzky of hockey or the Michael Jordan of basketball.
Dam!
Craig Jones front and center.
So you are famous at first, black belt, and champ in ufc ,good luck really Iam not jealous, yougot to know w/ gi,thats how you going to be complete, unlessthey choose you for champ!
Seems like Craig Jones is there a lot. Maybe he wants to join the death squad
He's adding another D. The Danaher Death Squad from Down Unda.
omg, who's the asian girl at 0:15? i'm in love
That's my cousin
That's Bee Ryu, seems like a BJJ groupie who's with Nicky Ryan.
This guy is fucking YODA
On the end they should kiss ring on your hand sensei
Craigory jones
Why all this not working in mma? Adcc chap davi eamos vs islam ufc 242?
Hi I am from Dagestan And I’ve been training wrestling and grappling all my life I fight with many guys from Ju-Jitsu backgrounds I never lost against any of them on any competition as a wrestler yes I lost a few times ju-Jitsu stinks it is loads of crap
Top
IS DANAHER A SERIAL KILLER??????????/
how does someone as ripped as gordon look kinda fat lol
I think it's because of his wide torso and lack of the Cobra looking lats which give the illusion.
Did khabib trained with the squad?
mrtjcombo7 i remember danaher say khabib with his boys visited his place and rolled with the squad on rogans podcast
GSP went to Danaher for a lot of grappling sessions when he was the champ
To cerebral for me. I think I’ll stick with Tai Chi.
top guys 牛逼!
If you are competing with and beating some of the best black belts in the world then you are a black belt. None of this bs sand bagging. He is not a purple belt
d barnett would be good to start him off in the brown belt to see him progress through Brown if he’s going to compete. Serious monsters at brown. Meregali and Isaque both battled it out at absolute in 2016 and Meregali won the next year at black and Isaque this year. Brown would be a solid division for him to build his skills.
although he is at the level of a black belt he has to stay on each belt for a certain amount of time otherwise at most tournaments he can't compete @@ryanparkercolour
Seth Botham I’m not sure how it works with colored belts.. Hinger I think went straight to brown. I may be mistaken but I don’t remember him ever competing at blue of purple. Could ask him through Facebook
Why is Craig Jones there? If I was him, I would not want to expose myself to them in their home.
I get what you're saying but going into their gym to learn from them is a great idea too that'll help everyone there to improve in the long run
Yes OR No. Craig and his team were doing just fine anyways.
Have you seen olympians like Olympain judo players, wrestlers training in their rivals' home soils? No they don't. If needed, they exclusively invite a good coach to their country for their athletes.
Do you know the reason why Japanese judo players don't like to compete that much often at international tournaments? although they get better seeded at Olympic games when they have higher scores form those competition? Because they want to expose themselves as least as they can.
Korean Judo players were doing very well before the last Olympics at different international tournaments but they didn't do that well at the last Olympics? you know why? it's because they got exposed too much thus their opponents analysed them very well already.
Jiu Jitsu is still a minor sport that is not supported on the national level because it's not one of the Olympic games. Most people do it as a hobby. Therefore, many do it based on bro-science.
I get what you are saying too but for Craig, it, being there for a long period of time would work against him unless he wants to join DDS. DDS guys and Danaher must have analysed Craig greatly.
From some people, it's possible its benefits outweigh the costs but for Craig who competed very well against Gordon already, the costs must be greater.
Not to mention, DDS is well known for being secret about their special techniques and Jiu Jitsu ideas.
Where I train, many students, including black belts come in and out of our gym. Just last night a well respected black belt in our area came to teach a class, my instructor/coach his demo partner. One of the most beautiful things I've seen happened on the mat during drills. My instructor was asking the visiting black belt to demonstrate the details of the drill to him, while us other students were drilling. It was as if they were both students themselves which we all are, no matter the rank.
TLDR - When ego is eliminated from the equation, there is limitless room for expansion. IDK just my take on it. Craig jones seems like a pretty laid back dude for such a killer on the mat.
Craig is still at the stage where he is changing his game around, and it's a rare chance to train with other leg lockers at his level.
lol like you know his level very well right?
It's such a shitty thing that his hips are in such bad shape now. Awful.
Gordon is fucked in the Gi. It's a whole different game, it's so heavily control based and especially grip based. Gordon is used to No-Gi, very little control, due to little friction, grips are not emphasized. It's also far more technical, on the highest level, every detail matters, a small mistake costs you an entire match. When Gordon fights a high-level guy like Erbeth, Felipe Pena, Leonandro Lo, Buchecha, Galvao, Keenan, Evangalista, Aly, Igor Silva, Faria, Arges, Romulo, I'll even say a lightweight like Lepri could beat him, he's going to get merked by all the high level guys. I'll bet my left testicle he'll never be an IBJJF Gi world champion, as a black belt. The fact he goes out of his way on social media to exhibit his detest for the Gi, indicates he dislikes the style, he's unfamiliar with it and he's not have major success with it, can't wait for him to get humbled in the Gi.
K. Sham 😂😂
I agree to take your left testicle if he is ever a ibjjf worlds champ.
Rome wasn't built in a day. Gi's do add a lot of control but at the end of the day grappling concepts are all the same and with the time Gordon is putting in, he is going to have a higher rate of learning than anyone else. Oh btw check out how Oliver Taza is doing great in gi.
Aladdin Jiujitsu no no he’s right it’s a totally different game just with grips , not even mentioning the lapel stuff
K. Sham it is not “more technical” in the gi and also not necessary to learn
If you are competing with and beating some of the best black belts in the world then you are a black belt. None of this bs sand bagging. He is not a purple belt
d barnett There are rules in BJJ, genius. You can't be a 16 year old black belt.
How the fuck is he sandbagging when he has competed against black belts, fucking genius
