Especially when pieces that were written in the Baroque era end up being played on a, dare I say, piano. The biting, angry, to the point sound of the harpsichord is unmatched!!!!
Agree with you all. I’ve only played a single manual but it just doesn’t match the virtuoso of a double manual though (I know about its mechanisms). Playing a double manual baroque harpsichord (not revival) is high up on my bucket list.
Beautifully executed and recorded. Gould's supersonic piano version looms large, but the harpsichord is the instrument for Bach when played by a musician of this skill and emotion.
Yes, in fact......and this is true of sonatas of D. Scarlatti. I, for one, learned to love them as recorded by Kirkpatrick on cembalo, in the 1960's. I will not hear Bach or Scarlatti or Couperin, usw. from a piano.
@@LeonartMusic Not at all, the sound is fine. It was just the tempo. I tend to play this one just a shade slower as, on my very modest digital piano, some of the harmonies are more obvious that way. Listening again to this version, I can see it works on that lovely instrument. It was probably my familiarity with other slightly slower interpretations unfairly skewing the experience. You executed it brilliantly and brightly. Sorry if I came across as critical, that was not my intention.
Thanks for your elaboration! I definitely can see playing it slower and also did on a number of occasions - I‘ve been using these pieces as warm-up exercises. For the recording i wanted to tune up to the max and play them as brilliant as the music is able to support it, hence the tempo decision.
Would Bach have used a harpsichord or a piano in today's world? Did he have a preference? My preference is the elegant, tinny sound of the harpsichord. In today's world, for some reason, it's okay to destroy the beautiful integrity of the harpsichord by playing music that was designed for the harpsichord to be bastardized by the (hold your breath) piano. Yeah, I said it. To hear this invention played on the piano strikes my core. For revenge ( depending on your degree of anger ) I want to hear Chopin, Liszt and keyboard works on harpsichord that were written and designed for the piano. Kind of a revenge (against the man) so to speak. Who's with me? Not that the change of instrument would sound better or worse, but the sole purpose would be to hear the piano world's gasp as if a blasphemous act had been performed. Well, in reverse, that's how I feel about using the piano where it doesn't belong. Just to shake the pillars a little, if you know what I mean. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, our return to the piano will be momentarily................
Bach was something of a technician (an early proponent of equal temprament, for example.) I think today he would have used just about every instrument he knew about; whatever suited the particular piece.
By the way. Yes, I know this video is on harpsichord!!!. I am sorry to report there are piano versions of this invention floating around the cyberworld. I have endured them and am happy to report that I am never going to experience them again. Piano in it's place please

I've said it once and I'll say it again: the harpsichord is HIGHLY HIGHLY underappreciated!
Love to hear that! 😉

@@nigelmarshallkenyonabbott8684 as a pianist myself who play this invention on the piano i gotta say this is true

Harpsichords are my favorite instrument
I feel like we got something in common
I’ll be honest, I don’t think the piano could do the Bach inventions justice like the harpsichord can
happy we share the same opinion on this topic! :)
У клавесина особенностей больше чем у фортепиано. Например на клавесине тяжело сделать стокато. Его модно сделать но не слышно почти

Thank you 😊😊
Probably my favorite Invention, played so well on the appropriate instrument!
I’m always amazed at how much he could fit into a small amount of time.
I love it! Great player and sound
Thank you very much, appreciate it!
LUXERY BEAM!
Me gusto mucho estudiar las invenciones. 🎹🖐️
fast but excellently played
very beautiful and impressive
i so badly want someone to make a fugue for this particular invention, im obsessing so badly over this invention
Wow so cool man, it sounds like metal 😂
Hehe thanks, glad you like it!
@@LeonartMusic i've subscribed :)
You should listen to Vertigo, by Royer, which he also played (you should watch the video for at least two minutes).

Harpsichords are wonderful instruments and after you have heard Bach on a harpsichord, listening to it again on Piano is very disappointing
pourquoi ce tempo rapide ? la partition précise Calme, doux, expressif (72=noire)
А что с метроритмом?😊
I notice that harpsichords are tuned one semitone lower. Are all harpsichords like this?
A=432Hz
А трели были в оригинале у Баха?
Off to practice
bella esecuzione, ma chi le correva dietro ?
I played the Turkish March but the third scale after the 2. 1st ones how to you do the double note 2. Times
Not sure I understand your question! Could you specify?
Los primeros 4 segundos me suenan de algo, alguna melodia que sonara en alguna serie o algo y copiarian de aqui
Baroque pieces sound better on harpsichord than piano imo
That’s a cool insight to have
Excellent interpretation and ornamentation but a bit too brisk for my ear.
Thank you! You mean the sound? What loudspeakers have you used (headphones, phone, hifi)? I‘ll try to improve on the highs in future
