Great suggestion by my monthly member Amy and others, the Steve Gadd-style flutter! Gadd is definitely one of my all-time favourite players, his contribution to modern drum kit playing is undeniable and so many of his signature moments (like this) are a masterclass is applying drum rudiments in a musical fashion. I’m thinking specifically here of the way he plays this lick in Rickie Lee Jones’ classic “Chuck E’s In Love” (th-cam.com/video/V-0dfuChZw8/w-d-xo.html), but this is a great little lick you can use in loads of different situations and change up too. Thanks for watching, have fun please let me know if any questions, cheers :) Mike If you’ve enjoyed these videos and found them useful, please consider supporting this channel by “buying me a coffee” or becoming a monthly member at: www.buymeacoffee.com/mikebarnesdrums. Nice. I've always found this lick easy to understand but hard to get to flow in a way I was happy with. I first heard this when Gadd did it with Al DiMeola on a live version of Egyptian Danza, where he does it for a full section of the song. That was definitely a WTF moment until I learned what he was doing. th-cam.com/video/ohfYxBBxFYo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=l4VIMMIqNHndo9k9&t=198
This appears in the version of "Chuck E's In Love" from Rockschool Grade 5 (th-cam.com/video/0139VQUebmY/w-d-xo.html), but this is a fairly accessable lick I'd say for most drummers who have got their double stroke roll going. Cheers!

I may learn this. Sound so complex and sounds like a cool one to show off.
This is about as close as you can get in describing ‘poetry in drums‘ - such a cooool lick! Thanks Mike
Yeah, classic lick!
