Hi, we are from Indonesia and we were there! My wife just in front of you when the race stopped at km 23 (blackpink Wdnsdy bike with white Abus helmet). What an epic 23 km ride hahaha. Anyway, if you have the chance please come to Indonesia and join our Bromo KOM 2025 in Mid May. Announcement will be in Mainsepeda website, and you can download the Mainsepeda app.
I was there too! thanks for sharing your experience...i agree with all your thoughts. Travelled from the UK so lack of information was confusing and disappointed - see you when we all go back next year...
One common knowledge to learn is that Philippines and then Taiwan are the 2 most affected countries by typhoon in the world, as the WPAC basin is the most active in the world, so no prizes for guessing. Those going to PH for training (CRUZ Control) also gotta take note. Taiwan trips between like June - Nov has the most risk in terms of holidays/trips being spoilt by inclement weather, esp so if the activity is outdoor based. Mine a few years ago was nearly spoilt by a Cat 5 super typhoon that clipped the southern part of TW hence Kaoshiung was most affected. Luckily mine was just a normal holiday in Taipei, lots of rain though, but the wind was rather welcomed. Be careful of falling debris from buildings, sometimes sudden gusts could be rather strong.
Typhoons and Taiwan cannot be helped, and with ocean temperatures rising there is an unprecedented number of typhoons this year in the WP. I have done the KOM twice, looking forward to see you come back to do it.
I think they did it on purpose. If they cancelled before it started, they had to refund everyone for next year. So they started it even if they know that it's impossible for the race to continue. At least people rode before it was cancelled.
I am a korean rider who lives in taiwan. Taiwan climate is unpredictable. You were unlucky but canceling was a wise decision for your safety... There must have been many accidents. Better luck next time.
Anyway if wanna try mountain trips, do it between Feb - April, hookup with some groups there. Much better outcome / mileage for your money with significantly less risk.
Pretty stupid on the organisers part to not call it off before the start. I’ve ridden that solo and it’s not a road to be underestimated in good conditions, let alone typhoon conditions. Riders need to let go of their pride and prioritise safety. If you were cold at the bottom, you’d be hypothermic by the time you got above halfway.
And I would definitely be one of the first to get hypothermic - the arm/leg sleeves I wore from the start (which were soaked) would have only made me colder because they’re not made of wool or anything 😬
Thank you for uploading the video. Great to get a sense of your journey.

Awesome I’m so happy she was captured in the video! And Bromo KOM sounds fantastic - would love to admire Indonesia’s beautiful mountains 🫶🏽

Cool vlog. I really want to try this event one day and vlog it as well.
Maybe next year 🙏

Live to ride another day... This is a good video format

Still a nice memory
This is very good video, good description for a historically cancelled event. Can't blame the organiser though.
With weather like that they should have never started it! Too much potential for landslides, crashes, etc. Also, cold and wet at 3000m plus is crazy!
It's crazy to start in the dark
明年再來!
明年见☺️
Sometimes something someplan 😅😅😅
not expected 😢
Taking comfort in the Banana hahaha ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
We had come so far together 😅
keep fight,
Imagine each of those participants (except maybe locals) spending $2k+ USD each just for it to be cancelled.

@11:45 did you slip?
Blame it on climate change ya!
