How ESPN, the SEC, Big 10 Are KILLING Big 12's Future: CFP Monopoly, Revenue Sharing, NIL Madness

- The Big 12 Conference often feels neglected and overlooked by the NCAA compared to the Big Ten and SEC, two conferences that dominate the national conversation in college sports. While the Big Ten and SEC are frequently lauded for their size, financial power, and historic programs, the Big 12’s accomplishments are sometimes brushed aside, despite being home to some of the nation’s most competitive football programs.
A major point of frustration for Big 12 fans is the disproportionate media coverage and attention the Big Ten and SEC receive. These conferences often lead the conversation on TV contracts, expansion, and playoff rankings. The SEC, for instance, has built a reputation as the “best conference in college football,” while the Big Ten is celebrated for its tradition and large market presence. This leaves the Big 12 fighting for recognition, despite having a recent history of successful teams and competitive play.
When it comes to the College Football Playoff (CFP), Big 12 teams sometimes feel like they have a tougher path to inclusion. While the SEC and Big Ten regularly see multiple teams in CFP consideration, the Big 12 is often only viewed as a contender if a single team dominates the league. This sense of underrepresentation in the national conversation frustrates Big 12 supporters, especially considering the depth and competitiveness within the conference.
Despite these challenges, the Big 12 remains resilient, with its member schools producing top-tier athletes and coaching talent. With recent expansion adding strong programs from the Pac-12, the Big 12 looks to push back against its perceived neglect and stake its claim among college football’s elite conferences.

This would be the worst thing to watch as a fan. I love watching playoffs, but hate all the Bama/Georgia/LSU CFP matchups because we just saw those exact matchups a few weeks prior. Big 12 needs to start playing 4 non conference games like the SEC to inflate win totals like they have always done
The American idea of merit-based success is undermined by autobids other than conference champions.
And scalping teams from other conferences. Too bad big-12 got crap teams
😆😂🤣
If the SEC and B1G are successful, the Big 12 should do the same with March Madness and get 12 auto bids.
Just because you ruin football doesn’t mean you need to ruin basketball 🤷♂️
As a Coug, all I can say is….first time?
😆😂🤣
The Power 4 is already 68 teams. Schedule 9 conference games and 3 other Power Conference games. 16 team playoff. Group of 5 forms their own League and Playoffs. Competitive games all around.
Big reason why it’s been next to impossible to get SEC teams to play in Salt Lake or Provo.
They want the auto bid because Nil is going to start chipping away. Why be a 5 star back up at Alabama when you can get paid and play in other conferences.
The top four in the SEC is: Bama, Georgia, Tenn and Tex in no order
Instead of a 12 team playoff where 4 teams have a bye week, they should have just made it 16 teams, no bye weeks, which has the same number of weeks played, and other than the top conference winners getting an automatic bid, all other teams get in based on rankings. Not perfect, but better than this.
Hard to think about future conferences when we have 2 wars going on as it could spiral into a dangerous situation for us. I think we’ll be okay but man, we need to behave better as a country. So much better.
Colorado would get destroyed by the top of the SEC and B1G. Come on guys.
It's TVs and eyeballs. Build up the teams in the largest Big12 markets. Houston, DFW, Phoenix, and teams with large alumni numbers and fanbase.
We should go to a 12 team ranking with no autobids. Isn't that what the SEC wanted a few years back? If the SEC and Big 10 are so amazing they shouldn'y need autobids.
I wish the SEC and top half of the big just broke off and did their own thing for all sports so the rest of us can just enjoy football. Let the bean counters at ESPN have their nfl-lite. I have no interest in it.
The interesting thing is that allegedly the TV partners are starting to shift more towards favoring a super league concept since there's concern that if more schools are cut out of being competitive then their fanbases will lose interest entirely and stop watching even the key match ups.
An 80 team super league, 8 divisions, NFL model, 16 team playoff with an NIT playoff. Who the heck wouldn't love that?
It won’t be 80 teams. It will be 40ish.
Now are you still stoked?
The SEC has a bottom half as well.
Big 12 can disrupt the ACC and the others and have our own national championship without the SEC or Big 10 with no auto bids. End of opportunity for them. Don't worry the SEC and Big 10 won't be missed.
Guys no way youre comparing the XII to the SEC this is asinine and im a Michigan fan. Colorado isnt beating those team's
TCU beat y’all 😂
There are better teams and more of them in the B1G and SEC. There are still spots available for the lesser conferences. Big12 is not the same level. Sorry.
I dont want to hear any Big12 fan talk about this after they had a tv deal locked and loaded.....then came in with a baseball bat and killed the PAC 😅
The Big10 killed the PAC by taking USC and UCLA. The PAC commissioner then killed the last chance of keeping the PAC together by his incompetence. The Big12 and 10 then scraped the remaining value out of the conference.
😆😂🤣
B1G would have averaged 4 before the additional adds based on past data. With the new teams 4 is a no brainer.
The Big 12, ACC, Pac-12 and all the smaller conferences better band together and sue the crap out of the SEC and Big Ten or they will bury everyone else, they will effectively split college football into another division with their teams the only ones in that top division. Their latest insane proposal is for those two conferences to get FOUR automatic playoff bids each, so that is 8 out of 12, you would have 8-4 Kentucky or 8-4 Indiana going to the playoffs over a 10-2 Oklahoma St or a 11-1 Boise St. No conference should get a automatic bid except for its champion and after that the rules should limit a conference from getting more than three spots in the playoffs, most years that would still give the SEC and Big Ten half of all the playoff spots. Continue with the rule where the top five rated conferences get one automatic bid for their champion and one automatic bid for the highest rated team in the four smaller conferences.
I can understand fans of other conferences feeling this way, but the B1G & SEC ain't gonna apologize for bein' the best... deal with it!
Then get rid of autboids and do top 12. If they are so much better they shouldn't need them.
Colorado has no defense. Give me Missouri
Crocodile tears!
Hahahahaha!
