    As a Amish kid we had same baler on farm, bale length adjuster is on wrong side of wheel and prevents bar from rising to trigger needles.

    The star wheel is to measure the hay bales. It is what determines the length of your bales. In turn it will cause the needles to come up. In the video it is not moving very much. Make sure everything is well lubed and free. Rust can mess things up. Your first couple of bales are going to be loose. The baler uses the bale that it just made to start the next bale. We always called it the starter bale. We would always break the first few bales of the season and re bale them once we had our first tight bale. I am NOT real familiar with twine balers but the knotters can be a little tricky.
    I hope this helps some.

      Thank you. Yes I'm hoping that we just didn't go over enough hay to get the metering wheel turned all the way. Although we did try it at least 5 times I thought the needles would've came up by then. I think I'm going to hook it up and clear out the baler, get it running, and turn the metering wheel myself to see if the needles will move. Thanks again!

    You have to trip the needles to get twine up to the knitters to make your bales it’s on the outside of the baler by the knitters just trip the lever run some hay in for 2 ft trip it again manuallyto see if knitters are working should help you

      Thank you! I actually just figured out what the problem was. They had the stop bracket on the wrong side of the wheel preventing the needles to trip 👍

      I learned the hard way timeing and needles attention when you are in the field and keep shearing pins go up to the fly wheel open that cover look down they got a timing mechanism so the plunger caint go back with needles up after 50 years running that I got it hooking up in the morning

    As the star turns, it supposed to be lifting the lever in the left hand side. When the lever gets to the top, it activates the needles.

    Hey CJ I seen you figured out what was going on with your knotters not tripping, but just a couple more tips, make sure to lower your pickup down close to the ground, your pickup teeth should be just below the top of your fresh cut grass but not touching ground, teeth usually run about 1-1/2 or 2 inches above the ground, so you get under your hay to pick it up or you'll be leaving a lot behind, also if you have a side not tie and you have to rebale some bales make sure to pull the string off and spread the hay back out, trying to pickup packed tight bales alot of times it will pull whole flakes of hay in and pop a shear pin, plus those strings will wrap around stuff like your pickup and make a mess, good luck on getting that hay baled

    • @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse
      @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey thanks for the tips Paul. I haven't found how to adjust the pickup on this baler. Only way I know to lower it would be deflating the tires some. What do you think?

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Mallard5plus1Farmhousethere should be a lever or something there on the side of the pickup with teeth or you push over to unlock or something to drop it down also your wheels on the pick should ride just barely off the ground, on my Massey 1838 they say 1 inch which put the the pickup teeth at about 2

    I would rake up some nice windrows in that field and get some hay through it to really work those knotters into shape. Then you can better diagnose what is going on. I may work fine after it gets tying.

    • @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse
      @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That may be what ends up happening. I was hoping to have it working right before we go into that field to bale.

  • @FarmandSpeed

    the star wheel gauge arm, you have the stop on the bottom and it needs to be on top. When the star wheel raises the gauge arm and it falls into the C notch at the bottom that is what triggers the knotters to tie. You may want to tighten up the bale chamber as well. if the hay is to loose the star wheel might not move at all or if it takes a big charge it will spin the wheel and you will end up with 1 flake mini bales. Any time you shear a bolt, when in the middle of tying make sure the needles are always back in the home position. You may need to pick up on the needle frame and hear a click when it locks in, otherwise you will do nothing but shear bolts from the plunger stop.

      Thanks Ryan! I figured this out yesterday. Idk why they had the stop underneath. I'm just glad it was an easy fix 👍

      @@Mallard5plus1Farmhouse If you plan on doing a lot of hay. I would highly advise upgrading to a newer baler that uses plastic twine. You will save money on the input costs. and a baler that old i'm sure you will start running into hard to find parts or alot of worn items. I run a 575 new holland. the BC5070 and even the newest model are basically the 575 in new paint.

    I did not see the twine coming out the back of the baler. Check the pathway of the twine.

    • @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse
      @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's because the needles never tripped to bring the twine up. I figured it out yesterday though. Turns out, someone had the stop bracket under the metering wheel which kept the needles from tripping. It's all fixed now 👍👍

  • @user-df8xj1hx7e
    @user-df8xj1hx7e 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I cant quite tell, but do you have the new twine threaded thru the needles and tied off to a bottom bar? I agree the bale length arm is a problem too and isn't moving. Thats the first problem to solve, making sure the needles are threaded to carry the twine up is next. You dont really need hay in it to test that - you can trip it empty to basically load the twine into the knotters

    • @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse
      @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I figured it out yesterday morning. It was the stop bracket. Someone put it below the metering wheel preventing the needles from tripping. It's all working now 👍👍

  • @jeffgriffith490
    @jeffgriffith490 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It looks to me like you need to put the pick up down on the ground and the star wheel is slipping in the shaft not allowing the needle trip to raise up two trips of needles

    • @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse
      @Mallard5plus1Farmhouse  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I kept the pickup up so it wouldn't hit the hay clumps as hard and fast. The problem ended up being the metering bracket was under the wheel instead of above 👍
